- In the late summer of 1961 ; my first year of working for BRITISH RAILWAYS I traveleld from Aberdeen to Crewe and back filming the journey with my 8mm clockwork movie camera .The first part of the journey was on the footplate of A3 Pacific BROWN JACK to Glasgow Buchanan Street then onwards from Glasgow Central overnight . The return journey was by direct train from Crewe to Aberdeen .At that time film cost 25 shillings for a 5 mt. running time spool so please exscuse the condensed film of the journey an the quality lost through time . .
Ah nothing like a bit of nostalgia now I’m retired, did the train from Stranraer to London a few times so I remember a few sights on the west coast line and of course the return journey in those days the line from Dumfries to Stranraer was still open then we’d to hop on the ferry back to larne, happy memories
Excellent. Especially one underneath at Whitehouse jct heading for southport.
Hmm A4 whistles on WCML, interesting video.
I worked on the Dining Cars out of Euston 1962/63 on the Euston - Perth, I think we left Euston at 1010, Royal Scot left at 1000. we overnighted in Perth at a Railway Hostel and worked back next day. Life was much simpler then.
