That's an interesting and varied ride, Ian. I know that recent budget cuts have been hard, but I sincerely hope that Strike Command's still got a bit more than that Jet Provost to play with! 😉 That church of St Mary has some magnificent stained-glass. 👍
😂 Chris, with the muppets who are in charge now, I think anything goes 😂 Yes, St Mary’s is quite stunning, as I said, I’m not churchy but this one is quite special. When we were at school (the big one I hated every minute being at), every Christmas we had to walk down for the Carol service…..it was tradition. The acoustics were rather good.😊
Morning Ian, it was interesting to see a bit of Nantwich, in all the years I lived on The Wirral I very rarely ventured further down into Cheshire than Chester, most of the time I was heading west into Wales or east to Manchester. I think closed roads, lack of signage and badly managed councils are UK wide problems and unlikely to change. When council failings are pointed out they simply pass the blame to central government and carry on regardless.
This is true Mick, but the road closed signage could be more helpful….(see icedidis comment), pure bloody mindedness by the contractors me thinks 🤬 I must admit, I didn’t see that much of the Wirral either. I raced on the sand at Wallasey, (was a member of the Wirral 100 club), and we have some friends at Upton, but that’s about it. Cheers
The thing to remember with councils Ian is that the people in charge have a university degree; educated to the point of stupidity and my god does it show in real life. Brilliant museum site. Luved the jet Provest and other exhibits on display; great place to visit i think. What a gorgeous old town. Shame about all that cheap and nasty plastic corporate branding defacing those beautiful old buildings; councils failing again eh! All in all a lovely enjoyable video Ian. You defo put some time and thought into this one, thanx bud, appreciated. Piccies at the end were great.
Thanks Neil. It just amazes me how incompetent the councils are allowed to get away with being 🤬. Nantwich town itself is lovely, but it has spread beyond recognition, as you will hear me talk about at the start of the next video (the ride back, different route). Cheers mate 👍
Morning Ian. Glad to see you out and about on Clementine. Nantwich looks good and deserves a visit some time soon in the future. Pot holes./ roads closed / and weather bloody hot? Well Autum and winter is just around the corner, then we shall all be shivering on them bikes? Thanks for the video. Ride safe,Bfn Mike (sunny wales)
Afternoon Mike. We / the weather just can’t win…..it did rain later in the day 🙄. The main part of Nantwich is pretty, but as with many small towns, it’s growing way too much. I talk about that, and show an example, on the return video (next week). Cheers
Lovely spot where you were staying Ian and looks like you got lucky with the weather I guess you can't get into the secret bunker because it's secret 😉Nantwich looks like a nice place I guess they were making a particular point in using the church for the firing squads rather than any old wall dark times indeed .👌👍Cheers !
Morning Ian, another cracking ride, Nantwich and it’s surrounding area are steeped in history it’s also a lovely part of the country, it’s a long time since we were there but would like to visit it again. All the best buddy 👍
Thanks Mike. Yes, proud to be a “dabber” (of Welsh decent 😂). When out and about, many people from all around the UK, have heard of Nantwich, but few are familiar with it, or even know where it is 🤔. Once a lovely little market town, it has outgrown itself, like many others 😢.
Morning ian. Nice little run. Funny how we do that as kids, convince ourselves of danger and make everybody run. You can never trust the road closed signs...
Indeed ice. Maybe it was highlighted by the fact that we did trespass, so were kind of expecting trouble 😂 Please don’t get me started on roadworks signage. Like approaching a sign that says “Road Ahead Closed”, but it doesn’t point in the direction of the alleged closure, often finding that it is a turning, off the road you are travelling on, which is closed🤬 Cheers
@@ianhughesroyalenfield "Like approaching a sign that says “Road Ahead Closed”, but it doesn’t point in the direction of the alleged closure, often finding that it is a turning, off the road you are travelling on, which is closed" That drives me crazy. Why can't they at least name the road, or have an arrow depicting if it's ahead, or a turning with a YARDS.
@@icedidi Putting proper signs in place would require employing somebody intelligent enough to get it right, and that would hurt shareholder dividends so forget it. A YARDS, what the heck is that? Anybody under 60 would be completely baffled 😄
Brilliant video Ian. Just love Nantwich so much, such a beautiful town. First time I've actually seen the Secret Bunker, been past the sign hundreds of times, but one of these days must pay a visit xx
Morning Ian, I've visited the Secret bunker a few times for bike meets they have had occasionally, and me and the missus went inside one time , it's well worth going in it's fascinating and scary at the same time thinking of what could have happened if it all kicked off! And there's a cafe inside as well. I was out over to Northwich as well on Tuesday evening to The Lambs Wharf bike meet, nice pub next to the canal, Nice little tour, the classics are ideal for manoeuvring round those little streets eh! 👌 Cheers Mel 🍻
Thanks Mel. Clementine is the perfect tool for the job, wherever I take her. We really will have to go in the bunker sometime, it’s not as if we don’t go down to Nantwich that often 🙄😂 Cheers
We watch a few narrowboaters on YoTub, they often visit Overwater Marina, and love the " Shroppy". Interesting that bunker, never got to visit, Nantwich is nice, and the church is a beauty! Cheers, DINO, PANDA, and the Mongies.
Thanks Dino and co. Ann watches a few of the boaties too. Yearning for the life we used to have when we lived on them. I mention that in the return video (yet more lanes 😂), with a photo of the best boat we had 😉
@@ianhughesroyalenfield I know crewe , Nantwich I used to go the Cheshire Cat 🐱 me and my partner went stopped over at the hotel apartments next to the cat about 6 years ago for a night out in town, love Whitchurch, Audlem , Market Drayton ,I nearly went to your bike shop in Crewe the other day I was in stoke and called in to tunstall to the accountants then saw the traffic on the A500 again had to go to the family garage in Barlaston bloody nightmare in the day 😞😞 Oh yes I did a big electrical installation at cheshire salts back in the late 90’s for my old firm when I was an employee at the time 😊
@-old-school-motorcyclesltd lovely history there Phil. I went the Cat a handful of times, not really my scene. In 1979, I went to Burslem Technical College (Moorland Road). Went on my CB250K4, in the days before the extension of the D road, so going through Audley. Winters were bad then, the weather was ok until Audley, then got worse very quickly …. I remember riding very gingerly, with both feet down all the way…nightmare 😂
Yeah it’s a nice place Nantwich isn’t it, as you say it’s expanding at a rapid rate, like a lot of places I suppose, enjoying the videos as always, keep up the good work, Nige.
Thanks Nige, a sweet town centre, as it has always been but the expansion is ridiculous. I mentioned it a bit more in the next video (the return), via some different lanes 👍
On days like that I get my summer air jacket out and my open faced helmet, complete with visor of course, and find that much better. Unfortunately though you just don't know if the weather will hold up or just wee it down, as usual.
Hi Ian, great video of your ride on your Classic 350. All the roads you travelled along I know so well having lived in Aston (halfway along the A530 Nantwich - Whitchurch road) for nigh on 40 years and in a direct line probably a mile or so from the Secret Bunker. Know Nantwich so well. Now living near Market Drayton. Currently riding a Moto Guzzi V7 and regularly ride around the area, but very seriously considering adding a Classic 350 to my shed if I can fit it in! Love your vids! Safe riding mate, Chris
Lovely Chris, thank you. Watch out for tomorrow’s release, the ride back, via Swanley and Sound (though I keep suggesting we are going to Aston, as I was getting confused 😂). The Guzzi’s are a cracking looking bike, never ridden a V7 though. I am sure you can find room in the shed, but fear not, a couple of cheap covers is all you need to keep a 350 outside 🫣🤔😂 Thanks again 👍
@@ianhughesroyalenfield Hi Ian, many thanks, will watch out for your new vid tomorrow. Just in case can you amplify your comment about covers. Anything you’d seriously recommend? Cheers and safe riding, Chris
@chrisbailey600 I was a sucker for the more expensive the better, using Oxford Stormex covers, but at £65 and only lasting about 16 months, I changed tact. Now have an Amazon special, with an Oxford Aquatext over the top (£20). Oh, I do put a bath towel over the tank first, to avoid chaffing in windy conditions. Only need a size medium, which is more than big enough. Hope this is helps.
Oooo exciting. If you don’t want to buy new, there are plenty low mileage examples about. They need to have over 1k miles in the clock before they really free up. Keep me in the loop 😎
Evening Ian 😊 What are you going on about? It's a great video 😊 under ground bunker that's over ground and then we get to see Nantwich and the road closed natter smashing 😅

Thanks Andrew. I haven’t watched that vid of Martin’s yet. Yes no more Cheshire County Council, Cheshire East shower of s**t. They have made some rather controversial decisions, and absolutely loathed by residents of Nantwich and Crewe. Too many double standards within their area. 🙄
