Special Thanks to all the Patrons who backed me on this project. This is the Full story of one of Boxing's biggest money bouts between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. For the people that are interested in why the fight is crystal clear for something in 2007. Thats a tale for itself. The file for the fight popped up sometime in 2007 and it was revealed as the ultimate copy of De La Hoya vs Mayweather. This is a Pro Res 17 gig file. There is an HD file of this fight around on the web but its not this copy, its a compressed 2.5 gig 720p mkv file. The comparison between the 2 in quality is huge. I heard legends of this file and to my luck it resurfaced back on the internet back in 2013. On old-school file sharing sites, the uploader had to divide the file in several parts so it can stay under the file memory limit on the site. I was limited by the site to getting 3 parts a day. After obtaining all the parts . You had to use a program called HS Split to combine all parts to make up the original 17 gig file. The 24/7 I obtained summer of that year. It took over a month to transfer. There is a copy on UA-cam, but its compressed I have the actual raw file. For the most part these pieces of history just remained in my personal fight archives for years to come til I finally found proper use to have it in a video today. Boxing is unfortunately the only sport where it is important for everyone to archive when theres such releases because chances are they will never be rebroadcasted again and for future generations they have to view the fight in awful quality. This fight is a prime example as GB and DAZN only have access to the international feed. The international feed of the fight was only shown in Standard Def. HD feed was exclusive to HBO. Which HBO only re-broadcasted this fight 2 times ( the weekend after and their 2007 Yearender special).
Good vid
Great video Hancho! Honestly, Mayweather vs Hatton needs it's own video/backstory because it was way better than the De La Hoya fight!

Lol I hope you guys don't honestly believe this ridiculous claim. Don't get me wrong I am not saying it is ridiculous to think that companies would collude with one another in order to scam people out of money, that part is extremely believable. But, on this particular claim regarding visual quality & tech this claim is simply ridiculous. There are a few reasons why so many people have this same sort of feeling that picture quality was previously better back in the day than it appears when viewing that same footage now. In no particular order they are:
1) Sometimes that footage appears lower quality than it was previously because it simply is actually a slightly lower quality. Depending on what exactly was used to record the broadcast [especially when it is someone's home recording of the broadcast,] when done on something like VHS or some other tape format it is prone to quality deterioration over time from an assortment of things like physical damage/wear to humidity. Also, if it was someone's home recording of a broadcast then the recording was also just a lower a quality than what the broadcast quality was.
2) Another reason things appear to more blurry or more snowy when viewing old footage today has to do with the difference in the resolution quality of the equipment you are using today vs. the resolution of the old footage. If you are using a computer you have the ability to adjust your screen's resolution & if you are watching something old if you were to adjust your resolution down to say 800x600 down from the 1920x1080 or higher it is likely currently set at & this will make the footage quality appear slightly better. Related to this, though slightly different, is the fact that screens are quite a bit larger than they used to be on average. I mean just the weight of CRT monitors for computers was absurd. A 15-inch monitor would weigh between 25-30 pounds, a 17-inch between 35-40 pounds, a 19-inch between 40-50 pounds, & a 21-inch between 50-70 pounds. Most people got monitors between 15" & 19" from the late 90s through mid-2000s. Even when LCD's started being sold to consumers they were small with the predominant size in 2003 being 15".
3) Finally things appear worse than they felt like at the time because back at the time there was nothing with which to compare it to that was high definition. When viewing it nowadays when most things are in high definition the the issues with the lower quality stuff just stands out due to how stark the contrast is. The flaws/issues were able to be mostly ignored back when there was nothing better available. It would be noticeable when someone first watched something on TV as compared to what they saw in life personally, but as one became used to watching stuff on TV people would acclimate to it. Similar to how someone who works around or is otherwise around some constant sound/noise it eventually becomes kind of like background noise that they begin to not even notice.
@Joseph Melendez
The 2nd sentence in my comment was "Don't get me wrong I am not saying it is ridiculous to think that companies would collude with one another in order to scam people out of money, that part is extremely believable."
I was merely trying to explain why people feel like something they remember watching back in the day feel like the quality is worse than what they remember it being like back then. Most people get this feeling, including myself & that's despite the fact I know it isn't actually any worse & understand why our brains are tricked into thinking that it is.

I agree.
Oscar and Floyd both wanted what each other had. Floyd had the respect and Oscar had the acclaim.
Right! Floyd was #1 Pound For Pound but wasn't a Pay-Per-View star yet! Oscar was the Golden Boy, the cash cow, but he loss alot of those big fight!
really well put.
That's exactly what Larry Merchant said! And I don't agree with Larry Merchant very often, but he was spot on with his opening bell monologue for this fight...I'm paraphrasing, "Floyd yearns for Oscar's stardom, Oscar yearns for Floyd's status"
it was the passing of the torch playa! If Oscar really wanted a dub, he would've fought like he did against Tito and given the '96 Olympic Bronze medalist a boxing clinic! But we all know The Golden Boy took one for the team and went for the KO. In Pretty Boy's defense, he returned the favor against Miguel Cotto. The only reason why Jr. got caught so much was because he actually thought he could KO the boricua.
Oscar was the Cash cow and he won but got robbed Froid would be nothing without Oscar Oscar also gave Tito Trinidad and Mosley boxing lessons

Really loving this channel, I'm so glad I found it. The amount of research and detail that goes into not just the fights themselves, but the buildup and circumstances leading up to them is just fantastic. I'd love to see a tale of Mayweather vs Castillo eventually.

Hope you do more tales of other big events in the history of boxing soon.
De La Hoya vs Mayweather was before I fully got into boxing but it always came off as a HUGE event when it happened. Probably because it was the night when Mayweather took over the throne as the new ppv star. Thanks again for telling this tale.
Mayweather as the villain or heel is more interesting than being the good guy or face. Quite similar to Dwayne Johnson as the Rock than Rocky Maivia. Nobody cared about Rocky Maivia, it's the heel turn becoming The Rock that propelled him to stardom. And Floyd showing Bob Arum that he's not the boss and and turning down his $7 million dollar slave wage offer is classic WWE heel turn.
Facts
I guess it's easier to get fans to hate you rather than love you.
@Corduroy El Negroid nah, i don't think he's a cheat or a fraud, there is no proof of that. He was cheated of the olympics victory and almost got screwed by scoring of his fight against Canelo. He fought bigger and faster opponents and still won. He is definitely one of the best of all time.
@Corduroy El Negroid man, you really hate the guy huh. I think he beat Pacquiao and I'm Filipino. He beat Maidana in the later rounds despite being bullied in the early rounds and Maidanas weight advantage. And Castillo is a close fight and could've gone the other way or a draw. But, I see it more as an edge similar to how Pacquaio was given the decision against Marquez in their 2nd fight.
@Corduroy El Negroid it think Bayless did fine as a professional referee.
Amazing content as always, blessing us with this long video! Everyone should watch til the end.

Gotta love how unbiased and real honcho is ! King of boxing UA-cam videos 🥊⚡️
What I like about boxing in the technology era is we can see the fights and judge for ourselves. Excellent vid!
To say there isn't skill in MMA is so insane. The level has grown since then but in 2007, the same year as this fight, you had guys like Anderson Silva and George St. Pierre. Two of the most skillful fighters in history. I think this stigma is finally going away but for the longest time boxing looked down on MMA, mostly out of fear
It was really only chuck and Tito that were the only stars in mma at that time. Silva and GSP didn’t get big until later. Also I think most of the boxing community watches the ufc, just prefers boxing, and most of the mma community watches boxing, just prefers mma. But back then there were some retards like Lou dibella who thought mma was barbaric
It’s because MMA fight like girls surprised they don’t allow scratching and pulling hair

This was a treat to watch man. The De La Hoya/Floyd Sr. story has always interested me. Kinda felt like Oscar was a better "son" to Sr than his own flesh and blood, so Sr always sounds conflicted when he talks about those two- it's sad and fascinating lol.
Floyd Sr. was considered one of the best trainers in the world at the time.
I've always believed Oscar passed the torch down to Mayweather, like it was a business first, fight. It shot Mayweather up to those money fights, and pushed Oscar as a promoter. Weird take, but it's my take.
@@dezdez4885 Yeah he definitely inherited the mantle from Oscar for sure, and I'm sure some part of Oscar knew he was fading fast. Maybe he cared enough about the sport to kill his retirement and face off with a young gun in order to give it a new star.
I think it's something they all came up with to market the fight. Oscar was at the end of his career, and no one I knew thought he would win. The fight went like we thought it would. Oscar was no joke, even at the end of his career.
@@jamesjohnson1522 Yeah kind of crazy that he was as competitive with Mayweather at a time like this in his career/life- drug addiction, etc. A fight in De La Hoya's prime would have been something to see.

It's hard to question/judge anything that Mayweather has done professionally. I mean can you really imagine him being anymore successful than he is or has been. Doesn't seem realistic that he could be any more successful, so to try to negatively judge anything he has done is a losing battle. Personal life is a different story.
Successful yes one of the best yes great yes. He is one of the best all time can’t take that away from him but man there is so many lil things that I hate about him. I will name them now.
1. Dude holds way to much holding while your hurt that’s fine but holding as a tactic of defense is supposed to be illegal stop me if I’m lying. I hate that you don’t see judges take points for hold some warn but rarely. Holding as defensive is wrong and just not something I like to see.
2. Dude always used his elbow and forearm and sometimes it would have dudes head pushed all the way back with his forearm like come on dude that shit is wack.
3. Dude was great at picking the best fights for him at the right time there was so many fighters he could have fought but didn’t or did but to late.
Pretty boy Floyd is a beast but money may not so much. He is the best defensive fighter yea without a doubt but that’s it.
@@jeszecantu4262 there is a difference between "Pretty Boy" and "Money" yes! I'll give you the elbows. I don't know how many people actually notice how many times he slips that elbow push in there, but he would do it a lot, way too much in fact. The rest are tactical advantages/strategies that helped him get to where he is! Hate him or love him he is undoubtedly the GOAT! He chose his fights because he was able to and no one else would've done it any other way. He didn't duck any practical fighter (I say practical meaning he obviously didn't go after anyone way too big or small) in his time he merely chose the $ fights and that is prize fighting at the top level. He did fight some of the best and he fought them at thier best! There's not many arguments for other fighters being better that aren't laughable! Tom Brady and Michael Jordan are the only athletes that have more of an undoubtable claim as the best ever in their respective sport over Mayweather! Maybe Gretzky, but I don't know enough about hockey to really get into that!??
@@daltiejul the fact that you think it's laughable that someone could think another fighter could be to GOAT shows just how biased you are. I'm sorry, but it's very debatable. That's just a fact, or it wouldn't be debated like Jordan or Brady.
@@jeszecantu4262 about the elbow thing, I think it can be used very strategically, like the first maidana fight, we’re maidana was bending the rules with the clubbing swings to the back of the head, that low blow and the grappling.
So Floyd counteracted that by sticking his elbow out, whenever maidana led with his head and tried to wrestle him. Therefore stopping maidana from burying his head in Floyd’s chest as it would run into Floyd’s elbow!
This why boxing is great. This sport grants you respect no matter if your a defensive master or a blood and gut warrior. Boxing over any other sport.
Except mayweather didn't do what DLH did. He didn't face the opposite when they called him out
@@Montoya1991 Floyd beat Mosley, Cotto, Marquez, Chico Corrales, Hatton, Maidana and Gatti. These guys were known for all assault and never die attitude. He picked them apart after making them fight his fight. Also DLH couldn't beat the cream of the crop like Trinidad, Hopkins, Mosley (2x), Floyd and Pacquiao. Got wins over bums like Mayorga, Vargas and a washed up Chavez
Boxing is not a sport...its a martial ART.
@@steveguardado7243 TF are you even talking about? Everyone that watched the Trinidad fight knows DLH won. The 1st Mosley fight was so close that at least half of the professional boxing analysts had DLH winning and Mosley was on the moon with rocket fuel (steroids) in the rematch. Hopkins? Oh yeah great win from a light heavyweight Hopkins against a welterweight dlh 😂. Floyd faced a washed up DLH and still BARELY won the fight, mayweather even "retired" to avoid the rematch clause DLH had in that fight and suddenly when the rematch clause expires then who comes back? Mayweather lol. Pacquiao yes but DLH was also dehydrated as a MF, he dropped down to 147 , weight he hadn't been in years. Just look at DLH in the Pacquiao fight, DLH was known for his lightning fast speed and he just couldn't move. Shows you know nothing about boxing, boy.

Yes that is correct for that period of time til Boxing can produce more household names to sell fights. 2005-2008 Mayweather saved the sport but Mayweather needed De La Hoya, without a De La Hoya fight things would have been alot different because the Carlos Baldomir fight left such a bad taste in fight fans mouths. There needed to be a passing of the torch, but Oscar had to impress in high fashion to Mayorga to sell that to fight fans and casuals. With the boom of Pacquiao in late 2008 thanks to the De La hoya fight, that had stabilized the sport for a bit since you have 2 cash cows and now rivals. You have people talking and debating now especially since the Heavyweight division in the US is dead. You did have some big names but they were only big within the sport and not among casual viewers to transcend and get a guy who normally watch tennis and MMA to take time and watch these guys fight. (Paul Williams, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito etc). So 2005-2008 Mayweather , 2008-2015 A joint effort by both Mayweather and Pacquiao.

He said "light years" ahead of anyone in MMA 😂😂
Yeah we all saw what JAKE PAUL good for nothing boxer just did
the best entertaining 35 minutes of my time spent I liked and subscribed
Awesome Video. Thank you, Hancho. Keep up the great work!
That fight is what turned people to the UFC.
Flyod Sr: I need a haircut
Barber: say no more
We need more videos like this💯
This doc is such a great presentation. Seen it at least three times now
What I have learned from watching people fight Floyd, when you rock your opponent, drop to the body.
A head without a body is harmless, a body without a head can still be dangerous
@@samhansen6320 very nice analogy which is true
This was amazing!!!
top quality as always, can tell you spent a lot of time and effort putting this together thank you!
This was an excellent video. Great quality and production value. I can't wait for the next one.
Max Kellerman really is one of the most decent combat sports fans, always gives props to MMA by letting casuals know that there is evenly enough amount of skill and that is the sport with the baddest man on the planet.
Francis Ngano was a boxer that train mma for 2 months ended up in ufc and is almost champ. Didnt even grapple until he was 35. Mma is easy bruh
@@gibememoni If MMA were so easy, then why did Mayweather, Lomachenko or Fury not go there for one superfight against Khabib, Yan or Stipe?
Ngannou is also a big exception, he has takedown defense and insane power in his hands, likely the most knockout power in MMA history.
We've seen how boxers got taken down and finished in first round. Art vs Royce, Couture vs Toney being the best example of deterring other boxers from stepping foot into the octagon. Some boxers think they can come to MMA but they try to spar and take 1-2 leg kicks and change their mind.
@@BlingBoyOto because ufc cant offer them any real money, not worth it. They had to go to mma because they couldn't cut it in boxing. I like to watch ufc for entertainment but it's not a legit sport, its bum fights
@@gibememoni Poor argument. McGregor went to Boxing and lasted 10 rounds with one of best boxers. Then goes back to MMA and gets manhandled by Khabib.
Pretty sure a sport where multiple combat arts can be utilized is much more of a sport than strict rules and one aspect of combat.
A "bum" in MMA would have their way with a Boxer.
Boxing is only still alive thanks to long history and Western influence since over a hundred years ago. Don't be a fool like Lou DiBella was back in the day when he tried to debate Joe Rogan.
Real combat competition allows more than one art, you can master one art your entire life as you wish (Boxing) but you will never touch a guy who knows a good double leg takedown.
@@BlingBoyOto connor had a back ground in boxing, he was carried for 10 rounds by a brittle old tiny man then brutally knocked out. It's not a real sport bro, I've been watching MMS since pride days. It's cheap entertainment, not a real sport.
This wasn't even prime DLH. He was slower and far over the hill having survived wars with Mosely. This fight is only proof that Prime DLH would have ended Floyds career.
Exactly, put the DLH that faced Whitaker years before vs mayweather and then say if mayweather would win lol
@Chadwick Jordan he didn't duck him, mayweather called him out in late 2005 when DLH had like 1 fight in like 1 year and came back soon after to face mayweather within 1 year.
@Chadwick Jordan it's all on UA-cam, which you can look it up. The guy that did duck mayweather was Mosley. Mosley faced mayweather 5 years after mayweather called him out. DLH faced mayweather within 1 year within mayweather called him out and that was after DLH had a long time out of the ring.
@Chadwick Jordan you can look all of this up, this is why Oscar is respected as the greeat that NEVER ducked a fight. Win or lose(barely lost) he faced them all.
@Chadwick Jordan AANNNNDDDD look at 32:20 why did he "retire" instead do giving DLH his more than well deserved rematch?
Well done sir. Best doc I have seen on this subject.
Great work, you over delivered and got a well earned sub. Loved how complete and detailed you delivered it
Mayweather Sr said "if you going off the point system, you gotta give it to Oscar.".......but Floyd lands doubled the punches with doubled the accuracy..............hmmm. Great video though, I LOVED watching this! Man seems like just yesterday all this went down!
Exactly..That's when I knew he wasn't being honest when he said that BS lol
Against his own son, idk...sounds pretty valid
Ended up being a much better fight than Mayweather vs Pacquiao was for me. Oscar was surprisingly competitive. A slightly younger Oscar may've even possibly pulled it out.
Competitive yes! Close ,No! Oscar had no need ,neither Mosley, to fight Mayweather earlier. Mayweather was the one that was clout chasing at the time.
@@janictealbert4010 That's nice, but I'm not sure that you get what I was or wasn't saying and the same may go for me too. I am saying NOTHING other than a personal belief/opinion of my own based upon what I see when I watch this fight , that a younger, fresher Oscar would, to me, had a very, VERY strong chance of winning in that fight. That is all. Nothing more, nothing less.
I’m number 200 upvote and still 0 dislikes. If you don’t know, now you know, office honcho is the real mothafuck’n deal and a true boxing fan, with A+ content...always unbiased!!! And I’m Mexican!
Thanks Honch, I’m glad you seen and loved my comment brother, 💯 on everything I said. Stay safe and thank you for these great videos you give us!
Thank GOD for you Office Hancho Boxing! i was really bored. And the people need to hear these tales of boxing. I've been following your channel for a long time (since that sick ass Mayweather vs Pacquiao promo in 2015) and i wanna ask have your thought about making a website? where you can store all the videos you've ever made there like how YMS does with all his past videos.
