Beautiful waterfall at the beginning. Love the crystal clear river water with a blue cast. Looks like the weather was nice too. Beautiful area in Alabama, thanks Crow for taking us along! Hiker Steve
Nice time you had. The stream and boulder strewn hillsides remind me of where I live here on the Cumberland Plateau/Big South Fork area. Funny story of the night terror. A hunting friend of mine used to do that too. He would just sit up and start screaming as loud as he could. Everyone in camp would be terrified until we realized he just had another bad episode. He would just stop, lay back down and not even wake up. The rest of us would be wide awake and struggle to go back to sleep. He was a great friend so we accepted it and continued to camp with him for many more years. Man I miss those days...
Papaw in the Woods - Awesome comment and story. I could picture on my mind the guy sitting up in his sleeping bag and screaming. @@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING it's my pleasure, my friend, thank YOU for supporting mine as well 😊 I miss hiking, I'm rarely able to for the last several years (old on the job spinal injuries from 2001--walking for very long, oddly enough, makes walking difficult), the Wife and I used to hike lots, all over the country before the kids came along (before then, she went with me in the tractor trailer), I was an avid mtn biker for a couple decades too for the love of the outdoors 🙂
I hear ya brother. I like your setup, a motorcycle and a tent. You can have some great adventures with that gear. I am not sure how many more years I have as a hiker. I have a bad left knee. That green tint to the water is super cool, I've never really seen anything like that before! Does seem like it would be difficult to stay on the right trail with those signs haha. Ready for part 2 brother!
Hey Beck! Thanks. My camera doesn’t do that place justice. The second part of the video will be out in a few days. The waterfalls in the second part are amazing. Thanks so much for watching. Appreciate it. Really like your channel.✌️
Thanks. There are parts of Alabama that are amazing. The Sipsey Wilderness is one of those places. Thanks for watching. I got to meet a hiker’s dog in the second video, so much fun. ✌️
That green/blue water is interesting. Beautiful area. I think tonight I might have some night terrors about trial numbers! 204, no 208, 206, maybe, or was it the 224? Ahhhh!
Super funny! Yeah, I was a little turned around with those numbers. I know the layout, but, I could not explain it on camera. I continued to say the wrong trail number. Those used to be “forest road” numbers before they made it a natural area. So, they just kept the numbers as the trails. Appreciate ya!✌️
Awesome! Thanks so much for always watching my videos. I really like your channel. Oh yeah, I know a lot of people done use water shoes, but, I did a review on mine on one of my videos. They are a lot less weight than crocs and I use them all the time. Appreciate ya! ✌️
Thanks! Oh yeah, very tricky. I’m glad I went with Joe. He knew the area well. He downloaded “All Trails” and used the maps offline with his GPS. That is the way to go... The Sipsey is really an amazing place, untouched. ✌️
Thanks Wiley! Yeah, none of those guys hike with me anymore. I guess I can’t blame them. I scared them half to death. 😆. But, I had a great time in this hike. Part Two will have better views of the waterfalls. Thanks for watching, as always. Appreciate you always taking the time to watch my videos. ✌️
Yeah, we passed a couple day hiking when we were leaving. They were not equipped to stay the night. They had no idea there were no blazes on the trees. We helped them out with information. But, I bet there are a lot of people who get lost there. Thanks for watching. ✌️
Really cool guys! Those rocks are awesome. We have some like that in PA up in Allegheny National forest and McConnell Mills State Park. I’d be lost on those trails there. I would need better trail markers 😂. Beautiful place though for sure!
Hey Brenda! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I hope someday to get to Allegheny National Forest. I have seen some great videos of that area. Yeah, the trails are a little confusing there. Because it is a national wilderness, they don’t allow trail blazes. Thanks for watching. Really like your channel. ✌️

AS THE CROW FLIES HIKING I always love the areas where the waterfalls are but those slippery rocks always scared the crap out of me. So much potential for bad things to happen. Nice to see you guys are keeping safe
Yeah, now that I watched my video...I was a little reckless there...😬. I’m glad I didn’t bring my boys there. They would have scared me to death on those rocks.

Wilderness areas don't allow blazes for the most part. At least that one allowed signs. Looks like you have a serious camera setup. Sipsey is on my list of places to visit. I have the same problem on trail with names. See you on the island!
Thanks turbo! That is your trail name, right? Yeah, I feel more comfortable there now. Joe was great hiking with, because he knew it so well. Hey, did you say something about squirrel getting into food bags on the island? What are you taking to combat that?
Thanks Kim! That is one of my favorite areas in Alabama. The Sipsey Wilderness is magical. Appreciate you taking the time to watch. All the best. Crow✌️
That water is so blue! Looks like the sea not a river! I could almost feel the cold though looking at your feet! 🥶 What tent do you have? Looks nice and roomy and lightweight. Great vid! I’m off to watch part 2! 😄👍
Thanks! I use the Zpacks “Duplex”. It is pricey...but, an awesome tent. The Lanshan company in China also makes a similar tent in Sil-nylon. It is heavier, but, a great tent. ✌️
Wowwwww The scenery is just breathtaking We need to get you something to track the routes...lol Question..why is the water green? Did you remember to get my souvenir? Can't wait to see part 2.. Hope you didn't scare joe with a night terror.
Hey AB! Thanks for watching. I don’t know about the water color. It is either the rocks or something else that causes that tiny. Appreciate you taking the time to watch. ✌️
Nice video my friend. We have an eye of the needle here in Scotland at the top of a mountain called the cobbler. Worth a look on Google if you get a chance, obviously pictures don't do it justice. 👍🍻
TWO WHEEL FIX - Thank you! I will definitely check out the cobbler on you tube. My bucket list has two has three real things on it: hiking the AT, Seeing Scotland, and seeing New Zealand...no joke. I hope to see Scotland someday. My grandmother passed away at 104...she came to the US from Scotland as a child. She talked about it all the time. She was a McClellan...thanks for watching. ✌️
Love it.. amazing adventure and I like the story at the end :-) Thanks for introducing us your friend. We love watching everything about the AT so we will check his channel. Do you plan to do any of the triple crown trails in the future?
Howling Wheels Adventures - Thanks! I had a good time in the Sipsey. It is such an amazing place. Good question about the triple crown trails. I have a pipe dream of doing the AT. My plan is to do it in 7 years, when I retire. But, who knows...life may get in the way. It is a long time dream of mine to hike it. I just pray that I get the opportunity to do it and my body is still in good enough shape for the journey. I will keep my fingers crossed. 🤞
Yeah same here, hopefully I will be fit enough to do it. (Recovering from back and leg injuries, can't carry backpack at the moment) so I am just dreaming about the AT. It seems a good trail out of the 3 to start with. We live faraway so, maybe in the faraway future. We will hike all the long trails in Ireland and UK first lol.. fingers crossed all is going good for you :-)
We have enjoyed many of your Sipsey Wilderness videos! We are new to backpacking and the Sipsey is our closest weekend hike. Question, do you feel like hanging a bear bag is necessary in the Sipsey Wilderness? About how far away to you hang your bear bag from your campsite? Thanks for your help!
Thanks for watching the Sipsey videos. As for the best bag, I usually do hang a bag, mostly to keep small animals away from my food bag, like raccoons, and squirrels. I do t really have a certain distance away that I hang it. It all depends on the trees. Appreciate ya! Crow✌️

Hey Charles! Thanks for watching. It was a great trip. I had a blast. Appreciate ya! I’ll try to edit part 2 today. Enjoying your channel too. ✌️
Cracking Hike and the woodland put me in mind of the Broad leaf woodland here in the UK but our woodland isn't as vast as what you have there, very calm place to be, Looking forward to part 2, Stay Safe, Les.
Hey Les! Thanks so much for watching. Absolutely love your channel. Yeah, the Sipsey is awesome. It is as wild as it gets. Great hiking and camping. I will look up the Broad Leaf Woodlands. You may have done a video of it and I didn’t realize that is where you were. I’ll check it out. Thanks for your continued support of my goofy videos. ✌️
Awesome. Felt like I was there. I don’t get out to Sipsey as much as I would like too.
Appreciate it! Thanks so much for watching. Crow✌️
Nice location.
Looking forward to part 2.
👍😊
TheSurvivor72 - Thanks so much! I really appreciate you watching. Part Two has better views. ✌️
By the way, you have some great videos. I have watched a bunch of them so far. Great stuff. ✌️
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING Thanks. 👍
Cool looking area. Great story at the end, lol. I'll have to watch part #2 later right now I'm off for a day hike with my grandson. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Jim! Awesome. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. We had a great time there. It is such a wonderful place to explore. Obviously, I was not the navigator, or we would still be there. 🤣✌️ But, appreciate you watching.✌️
Awesome job brother! Really enjoyed this. What a nice hike and camp out. Cool to see Joe from Joe Hikes.
Thanks Kamper! Joe is a cool guy and I learned a lot from his expertise on the trail. He thru-hiked at the age of 18. He starts on Feb. 29. ✌️
That's an amazingly beautiful place, that water is serene, awesome video! 😁✌
Small ADVentures - Thanks so much. I had an awesome time. Appreciate you taking the time to watch it. Thanks so much for supporting my channel. I really like your videos. ✌️
I will probably do what you do and get a motorcycle and tent camp at cool places. Appreciate your comments. All the best to you. ✌️
Enjoyed watching. My wife gets night terrors. They definitely are not fun to see. I couldn't imagine having them. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Hey! Thanks for watching. Since your wife has night terrors, you know how terrible they can be. I have had some terrible experiences with it. They are so real...I don’t get them as much. But, they can be rough. Thanks for commenting. Appreciate ya! ✌️
Love the scenery out there. Especially around the water and the rock features. I sure do hate that I missed this trip. Sure does look like a lot of fun!!
Thanks Jason, we had a great time. I wish you could have hiked with us. We had an awesome time. That place is spectacular! Hope we can plan something in the future, maybe a Pinhoti section. I watched your latest video this morning. Great stuff. ✌️
AS THE CROW FLIES HIKING definitely. I’d love to go backpacking with guys.
Amazing wilderness for us all to see on your channel.
Thanks so much. Yes, it is an awesome place to explore. Appreciate you watching. ✌️
You're welcome!
What’s a great home. Love the colour of that water. You got a new fallowed. 🤙
Thanks so much! It is a great place to explore for sure. You have a great channel. Thank you for subscribing ✌️
What a stunningly beautiful place! Great video!
Hey Natalie! I have been watching your awesome videos with your greyhound. Great dog! Thanks so much for subscribing. Yeah, the Sipsey wilderness is an amazing place. We had an awesome time there. ✌️
By the way, part two has better views of the rocks and waterfalls
nice looking area 👍🏼
Thanks so much. I had a blast making that video. ✌️
Nice part one. Very cool area to hike through the rock features make me think of hiking in Kentucky. Now onto part two.
Thanks so much for watching both videos Dragon. You always watch my videos. Much appreciated. ✌️
Nice intro with a beautiful waterfall scenery. Amazingly beautiful area. It was interesting to hear your story at the end of the video. Thanks for sharing.
I thought you in particular would enjoy this video (not because of me) because of the great nature scenes in the video. I love your videos, they are so relaxing and peaceful. Thanks for always watching. ✌️
As The Crow Flies Hiking. Cant believe - you are so right man. Somethimes I worry about my comments - because most of my words are about the environment:) , So already expecting someone to say: hey man what about me!! Thanks man- just loving nature so much, and appreciate people who love it. Yes, my videos are a kinda different maybe, unfortunately I have no time to make/upload once a week - for now. Maybe in 2021.. Thanks for your nice message and keep going your nice work.
Dude, your videos are awesome. I always watch when you upload. Keep it up. ✌️
Nice video, i like it. Keep sharing🙏👍
Appreciate it my friend! You have an awesome channel. Thanks for watching. Crow✌️
Awesome hike,Thanks for the adventure!
Hey Jim! Thanks so much. I really had fun making this video. There is so much to see at the Sipsey, it was hard to edit the video. But, hopefully I caught enough of it to show everyone. Thanks for watching. I enjoy your videos. ✌️
What a beautiful place really enjoyed the video! That water look really cold. Thanks for sharing this!
Thanks so much. Enjoying your channel. Yep, that water was “freaking” cold...😄✌️. I had a blast making that video. ✌️
So beautiful place! I like the place. Thanks for sharing.see you around
Playtimebows Main - Thanks so much! Appreciate you watching. Very kind. Crow✌️
Really pretty scenery. I didn't know Alabama is such a pretty place!
Thanks. There are parts of Alabama that are amazing. The Sipsey Wilderness is one of those places. Thanks for watching. I got to meet a hiker’s dog in the second video, so much fun. ✌️
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING Cool! I'll check it out!
Absolutely magnificent!
Thanks so much Mike! I really appreciate that. I had a blast making that video. I’ll put up part two tomorrow. 👍
By the way, they Uwharrie trail video is awesome.✌️
That green/blue water is interesting. Beautiful area. I think tonight I might have some night terrors about trial numbers! 204, no 208, 206, maybe, or was it the 224? Ahhhh!
Super funny! Yeah, I was a little turned around with those numbers. I know the layout, but, I could not explain it on camera. I continued to say the wrong trail number. Those used to be “forest road” numbers before they made it a natural area. So, they just kept the numbers as the trails. Appreciate ya!✌️
Great work documenting these last frontiers, if I may call them so. I would love to go to these places as well given the chance.
Thanks! It is an awesome place to explore. Appreciate you watching, ✌️
Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Hey Chef Cocoa! Thanks so much. I had a great time making that video. Thanks for watching. I am enjoying your channel. ✌️

@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING you're welcome
Video looks real nice, well done and looks like a great little trip, water shoes are handy to have
Awesome! Thanks so much for always watching my videos. I really like your channel. Oh yeah, I know a lot of people done use water shoes, but, I did a review on mine on one of my videos. They are a lot less weight than crocs and I use them all the time. Appreciate ya! ✌️
Really pretty area- the woods and the water especially :) I might not be tough enough to walk through that Cold water!
Oh, I wasn’t tough. I just knew there was not another option. 😄✌️. It is an amazing area to hike. Thanks for always watching.✌️
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING you got it! I haven't hiked in Alabama - those trail markings are interesting... I would need a good paper map!
Thanks for putting this on UA-cam!
You are welcome. It is a special place for sure. Appreciate you watching. ✌️
If you’re in the area again, I recommend Caney Creek Falls and Kinlock Falls. Another great place to hike and camp is Deer Skull Trail.
I have heard of that, but, never been. I will definitely do that area next time. Thanks so much. You in Alabama too?
Great video! Super hiking spot but looks very tricky. Good map or gps should help for sure. Can't wait for part 2
Thanks! Oh yeah, very tricky. I’m glad I went with Joe. He knew the area well. He downloaded “All Trails” and used the maps offline with his GPS. That is the way to go... The Sipsey is really an amazing place, untouched. ✌️
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING Yea! I'm using Gaia app (just like Alltrails) and it saves my butt a lot lol. Offline maps are the key to safety.
Great hike so far, nite terrors, funny how the mind works.
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING their loss, I enjoy yourvids, keep up the good work
Great Video! Going to be out there in a few weeks backpacking.
It is an amazing place. ✌️
Blazes are not allowed in federal wilderness areas, sign posts at trail intersections only! Keeps out the riff raff....or gets a lot of people lost :)
Love your videos so glad you added me on here so I could discover your videos
Embrace The Outdoors - very kind of you to say. I have enjoyed your channel too. I had a blast making that video. Thanks so much for watching my videos! ✌️
Great video! It’s beautiful
I have never gotten to hike there but now I definitely need to plan a trip.
BIG BOY HIKES - We should plan a trip there this fall. It is very buggy on the summer. But, the Sipsey is an amazing place. Let’s get the gang together this fall and do a trip. Crow✌️
AS THE CROW FLIES HIKING sounds like a plan!
The Sipsey Wilderness looks beautiful... I hadn't heard of it before, thanks for sharing this hike.
Glad I found your channel, just subd... looking forward to making my way through your backlog!

Great video Brad. I want to do a trip in that area also. Very pretty location.
Anytime you want to go, just let me know. We can plan a hike there. I now have a good understanding of the trails. Thanks for watching. ✌️
Looks like I accidentally watched part two first! Definitely makes me miss hiking!
That place is amazing. There were lots of day hikers on Sunday, when the weather was optimal. Awesome place.
Man that's awesome! You really did a great job on that one. That sure was an enjoyable trip. Such a wild and beautiful area.
Great hiking with you Joe. Look forward to watching your AT thru-hiking videos. ✌️
WOnderful channel & i love how beautiful it is the outdoors :) subbed & stay connected.

Good video! This place has been on my radar for years.
You will love it. Fantastic place. Very wild and rugged. Thanks for watching. ✌️
I subscribe to your channel. That RV setup you have is awesome! Is that an Airstream? ✌️
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING It's a Casita. Molded fiberglass construction. Solid. Never leaks. We love it. Only 17-feet long, it has bed, dinette, bathroom/shower, furnace, A/C, hot water, kitchen, etc. Perfect for a couple who like to hit National Forest and National Park campgrounds.
That thing is awesome! ✌️
Looks like a really cool place. I'll have to check it out if I make it out that way. I don't usually find myself out in the southeast.
Hey Scott! Oh man, it is a special place! I was filming everything. Every time I turned around there was something else to film! Thanks for watching. ✌️
Great video. Beautiful area! If I didn’t know your location I would think you were in Michigan’s UP.
Thanks Mark! I have heard that before about they area. The Sipsey is about as wild as you can get. Trails are rugged, and there are no blazes. But, the scenery is amazing. Thanks so much for watching.✌️
By the way, you have some awesome videos. ✌️
AS THE CROW FLIES HIKING Thanks! I appreciate that. I am starting to get the hang of knowing what shots are better than others and getting more comfortable at editing. I am loving it! Have an awesome week!
By the way, Walker’s world wants to go to the Sipsey too. Let’s plan a trip...👍
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING I am slathering my food bag with hot sauce. Animals hate the smell.
I think I will bring a small dropper bottle of it as well.
That water is pretty but I hate cold water. Great hike
Thanks Kim! That is one of my favorite areas in Alabama. The Sipsey Wilderness is magical. Appreciate you taking the time to watch. All the best. Crow✌️
That water is so blue! Looks like the sea not a river! I could almost feel the cold though looking at your feet! 🥶
What tent do you have? Looks nice and roomy and lightweight.
Great vid! I’m off to watch part 2! 😄👍
Thanks! I use the Zpacks “Duplex”. It is pricey...but, an awesome tent. The Lanshan company in China also makes a similar tent in Sil-nylon. It is heavier, but, a great tent. ✌️
Another great video! I love my bike packing but now you got me wanting to do some backpacking lol
Funny, your videos have made me want to do some “bike packing”. 😄It was a good trip. Thanks for watching. ✌️

Wowwwww
The scenery is just breathtaking
We need to get you something to track the routes...lol
Question..why is the water green?
Crow✌️
Wow Brad I'd hate to see my feet after crossing that cold water river. Lol
😆✌️. Yeah, I had to film it to show what cold water did to my poor feet...✌️
The nightmare...that's pretty damn funny!
PJ on the AT - Yeah, it happened the last time I was at the Sipsey...funny none of those guys go backpacking with me anymore. 🤣✌️
Good👍👍👍
