I still get goosebumps from this song - decades and decades later. To me, this song epitomizes the Dregs' sound. Absolutely beautiful

Never ever been bored at a Dixie Dregs/ Steve Morse Band concert. Always leaves you wanting more.

By far the best guitar player as we live and breathe.

Best composer of our time. It's easy to get bored of instrumental music and want a singer but that never happens at a Dixie Dregs/ Steve Morse Band concert. Easily the best composer of instrumental music.

As a guitar player, his technique is light years above anyone.

Yeah. Agoura. I was there...from the same angle as these videos. What an amazing show. So glad it happened. Saw Steve with Deep Purple recently and had a chance to tell him at the meet & greet to keep the Dregs alive. He liked the idea. I sure hope he does.

The band had never done this song live before this tour. It's an amazing piece of compositional craft and a chore to play. So glad they brought it out for this tour!

I saw this tour at the Carolina Theater in Durham NC. While standing in line, I hear some guys talking about how they used to see The Dixie Dregs at a venue called “My Father’s Place “ on Long Island NY. I, too had seen them there. Turns out there were four of us at the Durham show who were also in the same place 40 years prior watching the same band. Weird, huh?

Well, my friend... I'll make it a little weirder... It's a small world after all... I live in Suffolk County New York, about 45 minutes from Roslyn where "My Father's Place" was... Went there in the 70s and saw Larry Coryell, Shakti with McLaughlin, David Sancious and tone and a few other shows... This was 74, 75, 76 77 or so... After all the drinking and drugging during those times (I was early 20s) I became a little "burnt" out... Hadn't gone to any concerts in a couple of years, stayed home a lot... I had a friend who basically said lets check out the Dixie Dregs around 79? 80? 81? or so... I said "No, and who the hell are the Dixie Dregs?" Never heard of them... Dude would not take no for an answer and basically dragged me out to see them... Well, let me tell you Steve Morse and The Dregs blew the doors off that place and blew me away as well... I never heard anything like him! This was around the time of "Unsung Heroes" album! Then he stepped forward and started playing Whole Lotta Love and some other covers! I will NEVER forget that concert at My Father's Place! Went out to Korvettes and bought all their records the next day!!! Damn, what a show!

This song is the manifest of Steve's unicity...his way to play this long arpeggio, with classic influence, is a juwel!

When The (Dixie) Dregs are touring there is no better band on the planet IMO...
I was fortunate to see this tour in Chicago at The Vic. Stood right in front of the stage. Great show.

I think this is the song with time even the band won't even agree on. Ultimately sounds like 4/4

Tribute song to the Iranian hostages who were released after 444 days in captivity thanks to the peanut farmer; who really had no idea what the hell he was doing. Took RWR a few hours to “negotiate “ their release... basically told them let them go or I will turn your desert sands into glass.

Not very well-versed in history, are you? It wasn't a the empty threat you seem to relish, it was illegally selling arms to the Khomeni regime. I'd guess you LOVE the Hell out of Fox News...

    • @mikegodhard7211

@@jankafka7330 Incorrect. The issue was the deposition of the Shah of Iran. The US, supporter of the Shah since the early fifties, had agreements and treaties under Rezi Pahlavi's tenure. When Khomieni overthrew Pahlavi, the US refused to turn over the Shah's assets including billions in cash, in several currencies, and precious metals and oil rights to his family's refineries, established with much help from US oil industries. So Khomieni took hostages.
Literally minutes after President Reagan was inaugurated, the hostages were safely out of the embassy and on a flight home, for the reason I stated above.
I assume that your incorrect reply is referring to the "Iran-Contra Scandal," an operation that involved the Bush #1 CIA, the sandinistas and noriega, and Governor of Arkansas at the time, William Jefferson Clinton(research; Mena airport for starters).
And again, you guessed wrong, Ms. Kafka, regarding faux news and all cable/network news.
You should seek help, you have Trump Derangement Syndrome, it is a real disease, and has totally skewed your version of what is now history, dear.
I wish you well in your recovery efforts, and offer you one last piece of advice; psychotropic drugs prescribed by phony Psychologists, is not the answer.
This reply is Twiggs Lyndon approved.

Mike Godhard, your story is historically and factually incorrect. The Carter administration had already worked out the details of the hostage release, but Reagan and his incoming team of advisors, who didn't officially have any executive power yet, used back-channel communications to *delay* the release of the hostages until just after the Reagan inauguration so that Ronnie could take "credit". In other words, smoke and mirrors; a prime example of Republicans doing what they excel at: cheating. You also forgot to mention that the US had used the CIA to overthrow the democratically elected leader of Iran (whose name I forget) and install Reza Pahlavi as Shah of Iran, and the Shah's authoritarian regime was subsequently responsible for torture and "disappearing" of dissidents, which set the stage for revolution and opened the door to Khomeini and the radical Islamists. The Reagan admin also gave nearly 6 billion in frozen funds back to Iran (didn't people scream at Obama for basically the same thing, giving them back their own money?); and later on the Reagan administration sold weapons to Iran, illegally, to generate money for their illegal, off-the-books "anti-communist" interventions in Nicaragua.
Also worth noting that after the bombing of the marine barracks in Lebanon, your sainted one, Reagan, closed the embassy and brought the diplomats and surviving military personnel home. It seems he decided against "nuking the sands into glass" after all....
BTW, nobody mentioned Trump here, not in any way shape or form, except you. Who's really deranged here?

Does Steve have arthritis in his strumming hand or is this just to make him comfortable ? I would of NEVER EVER known about the Dreggs and Steve if it weren't for me being a HUGE
KANSAS/ STEVE WALSH fan. Steve WALSH'S solo album Schemer Dreamer had Steve Morse play on 2 songs I think and the guitar work blew me away. I researched who this guitarist was, found out, then bought ALL Dixie Dregg,The Dreggs, and The Steve Morse Band CD's. I am not a musician but I truly appreciate a musician who is on the level as Steve Morse, and he is sooooo grounded, soooo humble, and caring from what I have seen ever since I became aware of him. Not to compare elite guitarist but everyone makes a big hub bub about Stevie Vai. He's great,no doubt.....but he is sooooooo full of himself. On top of that, his antics on stage is worthy of barfing.
He looks like he is Jerking off to his guitar. I have no use for egotistical
people even if they are on the top of their field. Steve Morse- A guitarists guitarist.

Yes, he has developed arthritis in his right wrist. He developed very early an unorthodox style of playing that enabled his to pick very fast, but it has taken a toll on his wrist. This black brace gives him support and relief while playing.
