A Secret Santa has a surprise for a mom of 7 whose husband unexpectedly died in his sleep last month

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season.
Courtney and her husband Kelly have seven incredible boys. Last month, Kelly passed away in his sleep from a heart attack. They are all heartbroken, to say the least.
Kelly was only 47 and was in great shape, so it came as a huge shock to everyone. Kelly was a very selfless, kind, patient and service-oriented man. He was always helping out where he could and was involved in the community.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves if we could stop by and give Kelly an early Christmas gift. Watch the video in the player above to see the surprise.

Kelly is my husband’s cousin. There are no words to describe his loss to his family. As extended family who worry and pray for Courtney, thank you Secret Santa ❤

Yep, I was with her in emotion on this gift giving. She didn't want to talk much as the river of grief was about to come out and she was trying to hold back until Nate left.

The Black Telephone
Those of us old enough to remember when the phone was wired to the wall, usually in the kitchen, can relate to this story. I loved this read.
When I was a young boy, my father had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood. I remember the polished, old case fastened to the wall. The shiny receiver hung on the side of the box.. I was too little to reach the telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother talked to it.
Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an amazing person. Her name was "Information Please" and there was nothing she did not know. Information Please could supply anyone's number and the correct time.
My personal experience with the genie-in-a-bottle came one day while my mother was visiting a neighbor. Amusing myself at the tool bench in the basement, I whacked my finger with a hammer, the pain was terrible, but there seemed no point in crying because there was no one home to give sympathy. I walked around the house sucking my throbbing finger, finally arriving at the stairway.
The telephone! Quickly, I ran for the footstool in the parlor and dragged it to the landing. Climbing up, I unhooked the receiver in the parlor and held it to my ear. "Information, please," I said into the mouthpiece just above my head.
A click or two and a small clear voice spoke into my ear. "Information."
"I hurt my finger..." I wailed into the phone, the tears came readily enough now that I had an audience..
"Isn't your mother home?" came the question
"Nobody's home but me," I blubbered.
"Are you bleeding?" the voice asked
"No, "I replied. "I hit my finger with the hammer and it hurts."
"Can you open the icebox?" she asked.
I said I could.
"Then chip off a little bit of ice and hold it to your finger," said the voice.
After that, I called "Information Please" for everything. I asked her for help with my geography, and she told me where Philadelphia was. She helped me with my math.
She told me my pet chipmunk that I had caught in the park just the day before, would eat fruit and nuts.
Then, there was the time Petey, our pet canary, died. I called, "Information Please," and told her the sad story. She listened, and then said things grown-ups say to soothe a child. But I was not consoled. I asked her, "Why is it that birds should sing so beautifully and bring joy to all families, only to end up as a heap of feathers on the bottom of a cage?"
She must have sensed my deep concern, for she said quietly, " Wayne , always remember that there are other worlds to sing in." Somehow I felt better.
Another day I was on the telephone, "Information Please."
"Information," said in the now familiar voice.
"How do I spell fix?" I asked
All this took place in a small town in the Pacific Northwest . When I was nine years old, we moved across the country to Boston . I missed my friend very much.
"Information Please" belonged in that old wooden box back home and I somehow never thought of trying the shiny new phone that sat on the table in the hall. As I grew into my teens, the memories of those childhood conversations never really left me. Often, in moments of doubt and perplexity I would recall the serene sense of security I had then. I appreciated now how patient, understanding, and kind she was to have spent her time on a little boy.
A few years later, on my way west to college, my plane put down in Seattle . I had about a half-hour or so between planes. I spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with my sister, who lived there now. Then without thinking what I was doing, I dialed my hometown operator and said, "Information Please."
Miraculously, I heard the small, clear voice I knew so well.
"Information."
I hadn't planned this, but I heard myself saying, "Could you please tell me how to spell fix?"
There was a long pause. Then came the soft spoken answer, "I guess your finger must have healed by now."
I laughed, "So it's really you," I said. "I wonder if you have any idea how much you meant to me during that time?"
"I wonder," she said, "if you know how much your calls meant to me. I never had any children and I used to look forward to your calls."
I told her how often I had thought of her over the years and I asked if I could call her again when I came back to visit my sister.
"Please do," she said. "Just ask for Sally."
Three months later I was back in Seattle .
A different voice answered, "Information."
I asked for Sally.
"Are you a friend?" she said.
"Yes, a very old friend," I answered.
"I'm sorry to have to tell you this," She said. "Sally had been working part time the last few years because she was sick. She died five weeks ago."
Before I could hang up, she said, "Wait a minute, did you say your name was Wayne ?" "
"Yes." I answered.
Well, Sally left a message for you. She wrote it down in case you called. Let me read it to you. The note said, "Tell him there are other worlds to sing in. He'll know what I mean."
I thanked her and hung up. I knew what Sally meant.
Never underestimate the impression you may make on others. Whose life have you touched today?
This is a reminder to me that my problems are nothing when compared to those of this woman.

While Santa can't fix the fact her husband is gone, his kindness made her life a bit easier to bear the loss.

Oh, what a devastating loss for this lady and her children. I am hoping that he did have a life insurance policy in place for them, even at such a young age. I hope all of their good memories and re-telling of times past helps to ease this heavy burden and turn their tears into laughs, if not momentarily.

@@timpreisser5462 I don't know if he was self-employed, but many employers automatically provide basic life insurance - usually equivalent to about one year of your salary. There are no deductions from your paycheck unless you select more coverage.

As a widow whose husband died young left with 5 children I would have been a puddle of tears on the floor if people had been that kind! So nice for them all to experience community love and help 😭🙏🏼❤️

Super rude tbh, she doesn't have to put on a show for the cameras and just because she didn't cry like "you would" doesn't mean she didn't after. I personally do ONLY when I'm alone as its extremely personal.
@@MissSparks92 I read her as empathizing by trying to put herself in the recipient’s shoes, reflecting on what had happened to her, and trying to understand how she herself might feel, in order to understand better or more personally. Of course everyone reacts differently. I think she was offering her thought process as to how she came to a point of empathy. Observing how someone else responds and reflecting on one’s own imagined response seems to me a way to try to understand. I didn’t hear any sort of condemnation or destructive comparison. Did you see the sympathetic icons of tears, prayers, and heart, and the gladness for her receiving the generosity and love?

Last year my Mom passed, just before my birthday in April, then it was our first CHRISTmas without her. It was extremely difficult for my Dad, as they'd been married nearly 75 years, and were seldom apart. She passed at age 91.
This year was a struggle for me, as I had several health issues, and two surgeries, so far. I had to postpone one surgery, to have another, more important one.
Then, my Dad recently passed away on November 15. He was nearly 94. I really feel like an orphan now, even tho I'm nearly 71, myself, and have siblings, children, and grandchildren. It's just so different, knowing that we can't just 'go over to Mom and Dad's house,' anymore.
Nate, and Secret Santa, I'm so grateful that your greater Community is blessed to have people like you, who give and share your tender hearts with whom you do. Their lives are touched and changed by your loving generosity!

As someone who lost his dad the same way when he was 12 and before Christmas (I'm decades beyond that), I can see she is trying diligently to keep a strong face. But deep down inside she wants to burst with thankfulness, but in the past she had him to hold and enjoy the moment. Now he's gone and she doesn't have someone to express herself with. She will find a way and it'll probably be with her children and the guidance of God.
Always with Jesus. There really is no other way.

I hate to offer advice to his wife but PLEASE go out and talk to people. Even if you start crying to a random cashier, you will be suprised and even have some healing in the way people will respond and wrap their arms around you wothout hesitation. Stay stong!

It's hard to show gratitude after a few weeks of losing the love of your life. She isn't thinking about the help, thoughts or money right now that the community is providing. At this point in grieving she just wants to trade all the money, thoughts, and gifts back in to have 5 seconds with her husband again. xo

I've been buying the girls at the local general store lotto tickets when I pick up a few basics. Only costs a few bucks to brighten their day a bit. I can't wait until one of them hits the "big one".

Another morning starting with a good cry. I so empathize with her, and could just see her trying not to "**** cry" in front of the camera in the beginning with her chin so tense.
