This is such good advice. As a dance teacher, I make the same recommendation to my students: take some private lessons so you can have a professional, outside eye (in this case outside ear), evaluate your strong and weak points, make corrections, and give you homework to practice, practice, practice. It's not just practice though, it's directed practice. Private lessons are a gateway to what you don't already know about yourself. Having someone articulate things that you can't quite put your finger on accelerates your learning and your confidence.
We already know how to practice what we're good at, but a good teacher can show you how to practice and improve in ways that you can't do yourself.
