Bought mine from StationLevelZero, came quick and assembled it works great awesome design man. I like laptops but rarely use one so see no point in paying almost twice the price for a MacBook Pro or even a few hundred more for the Macbook Air. I may get the 14inch MacBook pro but at the moment it's unnecessary for me.

Yeah lol, not everything will apply to your use case. Some people are doing the inverse of this and getting MBP’s without screens and using them essentially as Mac mini’s with built in keyboard and trackpad. It’s all about finding what works for you. If you have an iPad mini and don’t want to shell out on a whole MacBook Air this could be a great solution for you

And when you came up with the creative, and emphasize on creative, solution for your demand of portability/desktop hardware, I was so amazed and even blown away thinking "wow that's innovation right there" I know it might not be like you to tell people to get off their high horse because a it is your video and be you have that right but I'm just going to say what everyone else is thinking who was just impressed by your creativity.

I don't have a Mac Mini nor an iPad, nor can I afford any apple product anytime soon. I'm watching this video from my old, but functional Samsung phone. Yet I watched your first video and honestly fell in love with it. I don't think deeply about the practicality of it, but it does make so much sense since you have a mac mini and iPad and can solve your problem in a quirky way. This project was so good in many ways, the video quality is top notch, and it's just so fun to watch. I love portable products and the way you made it look so minimalistic and beautiful is inspiring. Sad to see people are hating on this rather than enjoy it.

As someone who owned the first Apple laptop in 1989... The Macintosh Portable. I think this is pretty dope. I think the thing that makes this so useful(to me) is the disconnect between the screen and the keyboard... I love to be able to skew the keyboard at an angle so I can use it one handed, write in a notebook, or use a BT wacom or mouse. Awesome job.

I've had 3 macbook pros for over a decade and countless pc laptops before that. I certainly dont have a budget to be upgrading a macbook pro every few years because in time, I have to leave it plugged in anyway as the health of the battery goes. And when I run any large psd, ai files, or previously used bootcamp to run 3dsmax battery just drained faster. Only ran 3dsmax because I've used it since 2001 and just too lazy to convert to something that works for OSX. I might try so, hence I asked you what 3d software you use and obviously you use OSX

great idea! the value of both as separate + then merged is worth more to me than the needlessly duplication of both in a laptop! Your comments are legit and served my needs perfectly.

I’m here because I want one do-it-all device. The mac mini appeals to me because I think, at least eventually, I can have multiple operating systems and be able to use all of my apps, and when you gut i, it’s not that big at all. I’m thinking about converting it into a cell phone for shits and giggles 😂.
I never thought of using my iPad as a display, but that’s a great idea. I was thinking of ditching a screen altogether and trying to make my own XR glasses. I would love to not have to pull out my phone out of my pocket and just control things with gestures and bodily taps. I also thought about just running a bunch of virtual machines, which I still may do.
Keep up the slick and beautiful work!

oh its super interesting that you had to "simplify" your motivation in the intro of that video for pacing reasons... makes me rethink some of the other videos i've seen that i didn't get or maybe thought was a bit lacking in explanations. glad you got an opportunity to explain your thought process more in depth in this video!

I personally wouldn't use this Mini/iPad device, but I still think it's brilliant. Anyone who would criticize this is ridiculous. It's a brilliant little project, and you did a great job. And the video was one of the best UA-cam videos I've seen in the Tech space in years. Keep it up! You're going to a million followers soon, I think.

You brought a great point at the beginning of the video about, why not use the devices you already have. I totally agree with it. Apart from spending more money (which Apple or any other companies would love you to do), my biggest frustration is the continuity. I just hate when I try to continue working on some project on one device, just then realize some of the files/settings/downloads/code/YouNameIt were on the other device. Having a single device makes it so much easier to "continue" where you left of.
Thanks. Keep up the great work.

    i gotta say something ...
no cap ! i just got the exact same idea this freaking morning ... and as always, i used to check on the net if somebody already though about it one way or another... and this is how i step on the first video you made ...
so even though my concept and design is completely different, at the end of the day it seem that i got 10 month late on this one ... XD
well, its not a big deal, i'm just happy to see that i'm not alone to end up with this concept ! and i'll try to push mine to 100% anyway ! i will try to send you my version of it when it'll be done for sure !
    best regard

I don't own a Mac mini or any kind of laptop or desktop. I stopped using them years ago, as they just was not suited to how I work. I needed something more portable and able to work in different ways. I hated android tablets ( still do). So I got the iPad Air 1. It work well to a point, I then found work arounds for nearly everything I needed. I now have the iPad M1 11”pro. What I’m getting at is, I love your creative thinking to work with what you have and make it work for you.
I shall check more of your videos to see what helps spark my ideas for things my ADHD brains need

I came here from the first part, and I’ll be honest. I really enjoyed the concept! I don’t have a 3D printer at home, and I have a Mac Studio, but it definitely looks like something I’d like to do if I had everything needed for the project. I kinda don’t like laptops either. Yes, they’re portable, but I like the ability to touch the screen and actually have feedback. (I guess the Nintendo DS helped with that lol)

I really like that video and I think that was a good solution if you happen to have a Mac mini an iPad mini why not instead of buying a laptop makes sense to me I don’t know why people have to hate on someone’s idea if you’re using things you already have instead of going out and buy Something and you could save money I think is the best thing you can do.

I’m really glad I stumbled upon this series of videos. This actually solved an issue for me that I didn’t realize I had.
My iPad is my usual daily driver and I have a computer that I use for the few things I can’t do with my iPad.
I’m currently in the process of considering downsizing my iPad Pro to the Mini for easier carrying around and upgrading my aging pc laptop to a Mac Mini and these videos really got me thinking about how great it would be to have my gear work together so much more cohesively.
Thank you for being the maker you are and for solving a problem I didn’t quite realize that I had! ^^

I don't know if this will get anywhere, but there are a few factors which I KNOW that may have contributed to the unexpectedly large and divisive response. I'm just gonna dive right in, in no particular order:
It's not really a very new idea, or effort (for that matter), merely a different angle of approaching it.
The Mac mini Portable/Mobile has been a project of mine to figure out approaches toward and ways to try configuring (successfully and unsuccessfully) since 2007.
It didn't take long for the idea to occur to me, since my first Mac mini was purchased as an emergency substitute for a late 2006 17" MacBook Pro one day before a gig.
The portability and versatility of the Mac mini to be incorporate into a wide variety of different "workflows" became instantly apparent.
It didn't take more than a couple days thereafter to begin thinking of ways to optimize the potential for Mac mini portability and mobility.
Since it occurred to me so instinctively, my first thought was it's EXTREMELY unlikely that I'm the fist person with the idea[s], which a quick Google search confirmed that in a heartbeat.
I still didn't come up with a first working version until 2009 (using the original Mac mini form factor and a Mini produced that same year).
Back THEN the major impediment was the power brick and how to get the thing to run off of a battery while moving between environments (or "workflows").
My solutions came from hacking overstock discontinued 3rd party battery packs originally made for the Nintendo Game Cubes
(that usually came along with cute little square flip-up 640 X 480 lcd displays with 1/8" analog AV jacks and their own little battery backs),
and a purpose-built kit supplied by a company called Carnetics, for people who wanted to insert a Mac mini as an On-Board computer for their car and run off of 12v directly.
The least of the all concerns was how to assemble the components once they were working, because all thatt really took was any old Erector Set from a toy store clearance shelf
(the same basic stuff that gets sold for a lot more nowadays as "STEM" kits), and/or a couple pieces of acrylic sheet plexi, and maybe some thermoplastic and hook & eye tape.
In 2012 (the Mid 2012 was my first "unibody" mini), the design began suggesting new ideas and new challenges which were (ironically) created BY the built in power supply.
a second-hand iPad mini 2 I picked up in 2014 set forth the same observations of form factor and frustratingly the potential for wirelessly running a Mini from a Mini (which just would not materialize in any practically way for years and years). Nonetheless, new portability and mobility ideas, designs, ad configurations for the unibody Mac minis had begun flowing since they were first introduced in 2010.
I really can't shine any new light on why anyone would want to expend the energy or waste the effort it would take to either slam or praise the design that just left me nonplussed, because the effort it would take to think about it is just not worthwhile to me.

Don't even care about the project itself that much since I'm not going to buy a Mac mini and iPad mini to build this. But I am just amazed at the fact that he is releasing all the source code amd project files and actually incentivating others to just commercialize it, not share the profits, and still link people to him when they have problems. Who does that?

You could strip down the mac mini down to the main board and throw it inside a 3d printed shell. Make a modular build so you can add space for a keyboard and a spot to put the apple pencil, kinda like the Nintendo DS.
