Personally, I think Sonic R is a bit underrated. It's not as bad as some people make it seem. Granted the controls could've used some refining, but it was still an interesting concept.
To fly as tails, you need to press the jump button in midair and hold the button for him to keep flying. Kinda like knuckles’ glide but you don’t descend while holding the button (or until he gets tired)

This originally was a Sega Saturn game, the most underrated console ever made period. Even now, Saturn games in general are still the best.
