I visited this mill many times when I was a kid. I remember seeing this structure next to the mill but didn't know what it was, because I don't think it was operating back in the 70s. Good to see it's operational now. Will have to take a trip to Spring Mill this summer. Thnx for posting.

    That was a great video
At 3:20 the little tool on chain that hits the wheel to let the operator know the log is still advancing into the blade so simple but effective

really neat. One of the reminders why our country started to grow so much faster during the industrial revolution with steam and gas powered engines that sped production so much. A 10 logs that size or more maybe could have been sawn by the time that one cut was made. Fascinating how far we have come as from horses to rockets in space in less than 3/4 of a century.

The real time chart would be about 110 years from the beginning of steam operated machinery to the German rockets - The V2. Extended to include manned flight roughly 1850 to 1970. But your initial assessment is accurate - a giant change from man power to machinery in 1 century

Amazing. They are actually doing something at spring mill. It also looks hot and humid.

I'm doing some artwork that incorporates a water powered sawmill and I found this video very helpful for detail. I can't see how he turned it on and off though. Was there a lever on the right, out of shot?
