  • Please be careful with this device and follow the local regulations for grid tie inverters in your country. This is just a test I'm doing, not a final installation.
    I will use this sunny day to test the SUN GTIL2 inverter with direct solar input. The inverter has a build in MPPT solar charge controller an can take panels with a maximum voltage of up to 90Voc. How good is the solar charge controller, does it track correctly and how much output do we get on the load side with it.

    Ive been trying to figure out a resolution for my situation and if I'm understanding this correctly, this is the key ive been needing.
    Have Mains Utility with auto transfer switch to propane whole home generator. Seems this is what I need in contrast to the micro grid ties since this will not back feed and excess the grid and I don't have to do some other fancy multi position transfer switch. could put one on the east side of the house and one setup on the west side and be able to offset usage. I work from home so my usage drops at night.

    I love that you do the tests! I really like the crazy tests like one full 280Ah battery 🔋 and an empty one! Very entertaining and verifiable legitimate information. Some tests of multiple BMS situations on one battery pack as in Active Equalizing Balancer and Passive BMS and multiple 5 amp Active Equalizing Balancer and a Passive BMS. Active Equalizing Balancer that only Equalization balance between adjacent batteries and those that claim Equalization balance all batteries at the same time. Then using both and a Passive BMS. Maybe even pushing it to the point of letting the magic smoke out and a little drama of a fire extinguisher 🧯. Hey, I'll watch 😆 🤣 😂 😹

    Hi Andy, love your videos! Thanks so much; look forward to seeing them everyday. Question: where I live the power company does not allow you to feed power back into grid. They are concerned that when power goes out and line workers go to repair that they could be killed if you are feeding power into grid. I noticed that for a brief moment that your set was feeding electricity into grid until it adjusted. Is that a concern when electricity goes out and line workers start repairs?

    • @andrewradford3953
      @andrewradford3953 3 роки тому +2

      They only operate when they see the grid. Disconnect in milliseconds when the grid fails.

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  3 роки тому +1

      Greg, that cannot happen. If the line workers turn off the power, all inverters will turn off immediately within 30ms as per regulations. It's called anti-islanding. They will not stay alive just by themselves.

    @Off-Grid Garage hi, I have 2 (maybe stupid) questions. After I made my research for this grid tie converter I was not able to find what happens in case of a grid brownout.
    I'm thinking about getting the small 1000 for 24v battery pack, the datasheet says it can do 22 to 60v DC but in () next to it "starting voltage 26v" dose this even work with 24v pack using 3.2v cells?
    And most important is this thing still working in a brownout situation?
    I live in the Philippines and we have common brownouts sometime lasting for hours.
    Hab ich den Dialekt richtig gedeutet und hätte auch auf Deutsch fragen können?

    Also at roughly 50v these inverters start lowering their output. That’s another reason why a 48v battery shouldn’t be used. Also you really want the voc of the connected array to be roughly 80 so when the mppt draws the voltage down you stay safely away from the bottom voltage range

    • @offgridwanabe

    Could you do a test with battery and solar? I do not understand how a battery connected to the DC inputs would deal with MPPT as the inverter tries to adjust to a battery and not solar. Do you have to put a disconnect between the inverter and battery and then use a charge controller to charge the battery and then switch off the charge controller and switch on the connection from the inverter to the battery?? I'm confused how it can work on a battery and have battery charging. I completely understand how you could just replace the solar input with battery input. It is the charging of the battery that I don't get.

    • @OffGridGarageAustralia
      @OffGridGarageAustralia  2 роки тому

      der SUN arbeitet nur auf einer Phase, ergo: je Phase ein SUN. Im Fall von Andy sind das halt nur 2 weil, aus welchen Grund auch immer nur 2 Phasen ins Haus verlegt wurden.
      Das mit dem Limiter ist relative simple: er misst den Strom der durch das jeweilige Phasenkabel läuft und der verbundene SUN-GTIL Inverter versucht diesen Wert Richtung Null zu bringen.

      @@alexandergunda8916 Danke erstmal. Meine Hauptfrage ist: mein haus nutzt alle drei phasen in den verschiedenen räumen. Kann ich mit drei Sun Wechselrichtern alles abdecken? Ich meine irgendwo gehört zu haben, dass sie sich dann gegenseitig stören...?

    • @alexandergunda8916
      @alexandergunda8916 3 роки тому

      @@andylambertz4364 würde ich nicht meinen, es sind ja unterschiedliche Kreise, aber falls zB. der Verbrauch auf einer Phase die Leistung des entsprechenden SUNs übersteigt kann dieser (der restliche Verbrauch) nicht von den anderen Phasen kompensiert werden. Sie arbeiten halt unabhängig von einander.
      Falls eine Abdeckung aller Phasen gewünscht wird sollte vielleicht auch über einen 3Phasen Wechselrichter nachgedacht werden.
      Ich persönlich verwende nur einen SUN-1000 in Zusammenhang mit der AC-gekoppelten DIY-Batterie die Steuerung wird aber nicht, wie hier von Andy gezeigt, mittels der "Strommesszange" realisiert sondern mittels einem variablen Widerstands (siehe "Der Kanal"); die PV ist mit einem Fronius Symo WR gekoppelt.

    Shade? Schade!
    But that's llife with solar panels...
    30°C? Not bad for winter... But i would be happy, if it was that "cold" for few days at the moment...
    Enjoy calibrating SPATs ;-)
    And then go on with the shelve ;-)

      Hiya, you just need to be careful with the input voltages. The 1000 and 2000 have different input voltages if you are using batteries.
      2000 is 45 to 90v dc
      I run my 1000 with 2 Tesla modules because I’m not in during the day and this allows me to use the solar at night!
      I like the idea of using 2 together.
      For daytime I tried a mastervolt 500w grid tied inverter and it covers the fridges and tv.
      (Interestingly the ct clamp display on the sun shows the wats in / out of the house.)
      Will have to save up for the 2000 watt one.
      Take care all.

    No wonder why they say the solar panels are only supposed to last 25-30 no one takes care of them no one really cleans them no one really takes care of the wiring who replaces the bad wiring. I suppose that's why I'm a thirty-five-year-old so can I still give me the exact same watts it did when I put them up or is it I just kept it looking brand new for all its entire life as I receive power from the solar panels to run my house.

      You can get full rated power and more. done it many times with quality real TUV rated panels. this myth comes from the large amount of cheap fake rated panels on the market. people think its normal to never see above 70-80% output but its not.

      Depends on the solar irradiance.
      Clear skies at noon should give 100%, but high level clouds or haze can bring that way down.

      I'm getting full power from my panels under certain conditions. Cold wind and the sun comes out behind thick clouds. 110% I've measured for 20-30s. Once the panels heat up again, the power output drops though.
