The reason they won’t do an nt team is cause no other state will see the premiership again 😂 if they wanna make a nt team they’ll have to have a policy where 2/3rds of the team have to be white fellas just to make it fair 😂 and only the whites will complain about weather, aboriginals, you think they care? I’ve been told by aboriginal elders, women who would teach the kids and this is what they’d pull, oh it’s too hot in the classroom to study but you’re just fine to play footy in direct 40 degree sun barefoot on scolding hot sand….. but because of pc culture, you can’t be this blatant when saying stuff like this without some soft doodle getting offended. But that’s why they don’t have a team, and why they probably never will.

    • @brendonwatt6098
      @brendonwatt6098 2 роки тому +1

Nothing wrong with them being on the Gold Coast. It’s the nickname that needs to change. What a joke, the suns? How poxy and whack, the mascot is embarrassing, that’s why no one wants to barrack for them or go to games, look at the whack jumper designs. Start calling them the emus, kookaburras, fk now the bears ain’t around anymore name them the koalas even, something with appeal, let alone the designs you could make from those. Idc that they’re based on Gold Coast qld where it’s sunny. That only shows how corny the people are who came up with it.
That’s the problem. It’s the same with gws regardless of on field success, oh yeah our nick name is the giants, so our mascot is a bloke in a bigger mascot suit….. how pitiful, Leigh matthews named them this, yet sounds like a 4 year olds answer. And greater western Sydney giants. What a mouthful. Could just called them the western Sydney stars, which would’ve made sense in hindsight with how many stars they’ve had at the club, and would’ve made sick jumper designs again. No finesse.
None of these clubs need to move. They all have their plans and processes for success which they’ll all eventually reach. All the other stuff is an easy fix, if they do what I’ve said above. It may sound trivial, but an average mascot and jumper/logo look will attract minimal numbers regardless of success achieved.

@@YodgeeGaming-wv1dk mate I have NITV and have watched games be played during the middle of aussies summer, which is December to February. And if you don’t then what’s with nt doing cricket /nba system with premiers of 2020/2021 seasons then? Literally read up on Bill Dempsey after hearing about him in hall of fame and saw this for myself when he played for Darwin buffaloes with his stats being written out in the example I provided above? And what’s the dumb thing I said? And what’s Darwin and gold coasts weather got to do with it? What research must I do? Aboriginals are use to the warm weather, they wouldn’t prefer playing in Gold Coast just because of degree temperature when they can play right near home where all their family is and represent the nt, that was the whole point of the initial comment, you claim it wouldn’t happen cause no one would want too, which is just stupid and ignorant, and then told you why they don’t have an afl team, what you think they couldn’t find 30 players who wanted to rep them? All the aboriginal footballers would put their hand straight up, and that’s when it goes back to my point as to why they haven’t got one, you can’t make a rule that only so many aboriginal players can be on the list of an afl team based in nt where it’s predominantly aboriginal based, at least as far as their numbers go, and with that, you’d have a full list of freak aboriginal players, just a straight out aboriginal team, and as I’ve said, if that happens, every state can say goodbye to winning a premiership again. Yeah the person who wrote the comment may have been talking about the suns being the northern suns and playing split and you said they wouldn’t be keen on that, you may and probably are right on that, which is why they don’t get many games happening there and even more to the point of why the nt doesn’t have an afl team which is what I was making. And it’s easy to understand if you use common sense. So I don’t know what you’re getting at with your comments but they’re useless in my eyes cause I have nothing to research, I do know what I’m talking about, and I can confidently say this is true or at least logical based on the information I’ve provided and the obvious fact that there is no nt team. Have a nice day mate
You should think before you type at all.

They're trying to pander to all their corporate interests which means create a fake beautiful perfect image that all the players are 100% clean free of drugs and marketable so they can get their next cotton on sponsorships. As a proud Tasmanian, I would not support this team in any capacity! Nor would any Tasmanians! They will simply support their orgiginal clubs. Tasmania is a proud traditional state and would only follow the Dark Green gurnsey. This is a great deal for North or any other team, but not a great deal for Tasmanians, who want their own team, to call Tasmania, to be soley grown from Tasmania, not some cash grab team that is AFL run! If you put a team in Tasmania, it will grow. The players that will come from the draft will be amazing and will create something that the Crows, Port, Swans and the WA teams have. The supporters are so passionate that they will fill the staduim every week. I think Eddy here is forgetting the tasmanian people and what they stand for. He talk of growing up in North Melbourne..well imagine going to a Tasmanian game as a born and bred Tasmanian! The AFL need to relocate North to Canberra and become the Canberra Kangaroos, simple. But dont rip of the Tasmanian public...this will be a failed team if this happens and a sad day for the AFL!

Don't believe your club is ever broke. All these clubs were once bankrupt and lived on for 30+ years and thrived. I agree standalone won't work - but I don't think Ed's proposal will either.
The problem with this issue is you can't talk about it rationally, because it always gets broken down to "passion" - and there's certainly plenty of that there. But realistically it's a small population spread over a fairly large area and people get sick of travelling large distances. Are they getting full crowds at the current Hawks and North games? I'm sure they argue that "but that's not our own team", but if they're all that passionate about football and demanding more surely 4 or 5 games a year at low capacity grounds should be selling out. A slight side (and I know the populations are very different especially in football preference) I think the AFL has it almost right in Canberra - 3 games at Manuka, against different opponents each year. Enough games to have football aficionados wanting to go to all 3, but not so much that they decide "if I miss this week, there's another in a fortnight...".
In 4 games so far in Tas this year, Blundstone arena has averaged crowds fewer than 7000, UTAS has averaged under 14K - both have a capacity of about 20K. What changes if those games were a local Tas side? Maybe a couple sellouts in the first year or so. Part of it is dwindling interest, but a larger part is that the more accessible something is, the less people worry about missing out.....so you're forever putting off going until "next time".
If both Tas and the AFL are serious, I think they need to negotiate the exact success criteria, and have a contingency in place in case things don't work out (including that if it falls apart, it won't be revisited in the immediate future). Tas (presumably) doesn't want to be left with a barely used stadium, but I'm guessing the AFL doesn't want another hungry club to feed....

And Launceston is 2hrs away from Hobart (without stopping for coffee breaks), which is probably not much different than some regional Victorians take to travel to regular AFL games. The problem is that the highways in Tasmania aren't safe double lane freeway standard and there will never be a train.
The saving grace is that Hobart makes up the bulk of Tasmania's population growth now and it's booming. Don't get me wrong. I want this to get the green light as much as anyone but we have to be realistic and let Hobart have the overwhelming majority of home games. Launceston should never have been the chosen location for the Hawks to play a handful of junk "home" matches anyway.

updated plan, using the same concept while changing a few key things
1 it would be the Kangaroos. 2 bases will allow Tasmania to fund a VFL and Devil programs with a victorian base. It will bring more economic opportunity with the ability to attract Tasmanian and Victorian sponsors. and the idea that a club will only play in Melbourne and Tasmania, is because this league isn't home and away play league. How about 10 games in Tasmania and 8 games in Melbourne one game in Geelong and then 3 games on the road. this then doesn't give an unfair advantage. and there will still be one home game in Melbourne they can be played at Norths home at Arden Street Oval, with temporary stands much like the f1 grand stands. judging they get 13,000 per game. this means the heritage is still there while the ability for Tasmania to is welcomed.

Have to agree with Eddie that the talent is spread thin already. Not sure if Eddie’s solution is the one. I do think there are too many Melbourne-based teams and this number needs to be reduced. You keep the big 4 clubs and add Geelong and Hawthorn to that. Leaves the Dees, Saints, Roos and Dogs. Could look at merging these 4 into 2 clubs. That will leave 8 Melb clubs.
Instead of bringing a NT team, have the Suns represent Northern Australia.

You might not be stupid. But that idea is.
Obviously you don't support either the Dees, Saints, Roos or Dogs, so you couldn't really care less about warping their respective futures. The Saints and Roos are vulnerable for sure but they each have potential to climb out of trouble given the proper direction. It wasn't that long ago that the Dees and Dogs were in trouble aswell and while not two of the bigger clubs, they each have a solid and stable fanbase now.
The Suns are the team that should be relocated to the Apple Isle. Hardly anyone cares about them, including some of their own players and staff it seems. Just rebadge their location name, mascott, guernsey and song. And overtime, the club will become mostly fully local.
The NT is too small. If TAS has been denied a club for so long mostly because it's "too small", then there's no way the even smaller NT should be granted one simultaneously aswell. Would be better off giving a 3rd team to Perth. Its 2.1million should be large enough to sustain 3 clubs by now.

I'm in with McGuire on this one. I encourage all lovers of 'Our Game' to recognise and embrace his vision for North relocating to Tasmania.
Barassi seemed rusted on Melbourne through and through. He saw the value of a new challenge in a move to Carlton. He coaches them to a Premiership in 1970. Fate, combined with his football brilliance, and a team made up of talented Frankenstein parts became a highly competitive and respected team, due largely to the few at North Melbourne who saw their worth; Aylett, Joseph, Mantello and Billy Stephen who Barassi brought over from Fitzroy. The Kangas then catapult themselves into football folklore, thus becoming a football powerhouse team of the 70's. Alongside Hawthorn. Until 1976, they had won two.
Since then, the Hawks have won another ten flags, and it's not just for their Thursday night sausage sizzles. Good governance, and a ruthless Modus operandi from the club's re-development and leadership from the board, coaching personnel all the way through to their club culture and of course, maintaining an unrelenting conga line of champion players and talent in vast reserves.
North have won just four. Only four in our proud history. What have we done differently to Hawthorn? We have blooded and fielded greats that other teams in our halcyon years have envied and surely only wished for their own. Strategies under Pagan's tutelage in the 90's on and off the field forced all other clubs to devise new methods and tactics to keep up with us.
That yielded us two premierships. We almost got there with Scott and Brayshaw in 2014.
What on earth is happening now?
Isn't it finally time to get that winning sensation back for North? As 'shinboners' why not embolden ourselves with a big new enterprise?
Or, do we as North merely maintain the staus quo with a rudderless and frail club culture on and off the field as it is now; steered, (not navigated), by our current 'woke' board who are more into 'grouphugs' and cosy fireside chats where the coach is compelled as directed from above, to apologise for a post game 'spray' for fear that this current crop of bedwetters and cry-babies, and their Mums' might be offended?
C'mon, how many players have we jettisoned in the name of a 're-build strategy' who have gained career longevity and gone on to become premiership players and greats at other clubs as a consequence of North's shortsightedness before the best of their talent and qualities were fully recognised?
If we are to stay on in Melbourne with no plans other than to continue on as we are, what becomes of those Royal Blue and White stripes? What happens next? This great club of ours as a statement of fact becomes just another mere talking point for the likes of Caroline Wilson and her co-horts in the media who remain unwilling to at least investigate McGuire's alternatives.
Let's re-invent ourselves, and as we know from Kanga generations past, patience gains all things.
Shinboners used to run through the banners held up high by our cheer squads didn't they? Run and BURST through it together with vigour and as a team, rather than meekly ducking under it so as to avoid touching it as other clubs do thesedays. Take a knee and bow our heads in shame? That is not us. Blue and white banners, floggers, scarves and flags with belief behind them are us.
McGuire may be an aquired taste, but he ain't stupid. This bloke has always had the very best intentions to see this game flourish. Could he perhaps become the new president of North?
I encourage North supporters everywhere to recognise and embrace his vision for an opportunity in Tasmania. Listen carefully to his presentation just now.
Get Clarkson and see what happens next.
"The greatest risk is to not take any risk at all!"

No. No. No. I understand the passion and you obviously love the Apple Isle, but I'm sorry to say this.
Tasmania has been disrespected for long enough now. As a former Tasmanian myself who may or may not return one day, I'd rather the AFL gave TAS the complete 🖕 instead of granting us someone else's mess that needs to be cleaned up. It's a great test of character for the AFL and we will finally know where they stand once and for all when it comes to the state. They really think that little of us? Fine. We walk away and the AFL losers Tasmanian corporate support forever. And we finally know when it comes to the AFL's stance on North aswell, and the Suns for that matter.
No hate on North. I honestly want them to succeed just like all clubs. But they had their chance to relocate to the Gold Coast and they didn't. Was it a better or worse decision to refuse the offer? Who knows. But bottom line is they're still struggling and now the AFL has an even bigger basket case in the Suns.
I know it sounds horrible. But the Roos will be more respected if they kept fighting until the bitter end if/when the AFL pulls the plug on them. North have history, and it's far more honourable to bow out with grace than to be saved. And I would honestly say the same thing if it was my club (WB) in the same position. It should be the Suns who get gutted first anyway. Let the AFL be the ones who make that decision on which one of the two needs to be let go, or instead to keep them both and keep Tassie excluded. The AFL is ultimately the biggest loser no matter what.

What if the plan was time limited? Give the plan a solid 15-20 years to see if it works and the fans are happy, then that's great. However, if it doesn't work then there should be an option in the contract to revert it back to pure North Melbourne as it once was.
I don't think this global recession is going to last forever.

The idea as a whole is the right direction forward, and I might say my envision of the future was to do this, but move the gold coast team down. Gold Coast doesn’t have the population or potential supporter base to run a team there…
Teams have moved around and changed names so that’s not new.
The games in Melbourne and Tasmania needs to change as the obviously need to move around the country, might work for the first 2 years but it would need to change.

No point moving Gold Coast, there are 9 teams in Melbourne + Geelong, why not just get rid of one of the smaller struggling ones? Then dissolve the name/brand..... and make a completely fresh new team in Tassie, don't relocate.

Create a new development competition with 14 new teams.
    3 from TAS
2 from NSW, QLD, SA and WA
1 from NT, ACT and VIC.
Let the competition get established for 5 years before introducing relegation/promotion with the AFL.
On the first year relegate 3 teams and promote 1 so the comps even at 16 teams each.
Get rid of the pre-season competition and extend the footy season to 30 games giving 1 home and 1 away match v everyone else.
Everyone gets their own team and they get to the AFL on merit not location.
