You sing like this for about 40 years and lets see how well you sing... People have no clue what is involved in sing over the years. Just look at Rob Halford, Geddy Lee, David Coverdale, Mark Slaughter all these screamers lose it as time wears on the voice and the road eats at your health. Just enjoy the fact they are still playing and you have videos like this to relieve the old days.
Defeis has never been live where he was on his records, probably due to a lack of touring (touring is probably what forges the most a pro musician, Virgin Steele seems to have not toured that much, they're more a studio band), singers like Halford, Dio, Mercury, Dickinson, Eric Adams and other top singers sounded live quite like they sounded in records for the most part of their career, and can still make a good illusion in studio by now... Defeis can't... I don't know what happened in the 6 years between "Atreus II" and "Visions..." but he clearly has lost most of his voice in this lapse, and even in studio, he hasn't that powerful medium voice he used to have, he only has whispers and powerless high notes, but not much in between. And maybe the lack of touring is also an explanation for why VS never got the fame they should have known, considering they did almost only top albums from 85 to 2000, much more than legends like Iron Maiden or Metallica. The streak of albums from "Marriage 1" to "Atreus 2" is probably one of the most remarkable streak of top albums in Metal's history.
Debiruman1666 you are absolutely right to most of your sayings, but there were times that Defeis was very good live(check some videos from 1993, 1998 and 2002 that exist on youtube)
@@12SkippyRay I think something health-related happened. There's a full concert from '04 on UA-cam and he's roaring like a lion. Then there's one from '05 or '06 and the voice just ISN'T there at all. It didn't age that much in a couple years.

26 minutes in! My favorite song, "Still In love With You" !
on 14:06 Jack plays a riff from "Rain Of Fire", a song that appeared in "Book of Burning"(2002) :)
Please, anyone who has more VS live footage from the 80s, he should upload them!!
