Although I appreciate that we acknowledge nepotism is akin to networking in the work force, I think there may be a difference in sport athletes. Sport fans are emotionally invested in their teams much like people invest in stocks. In a lot of ways, they are also financially invested. Athletes are a good indicator if a team will do well or not. Therefore, it makes sense that fans would be upset with nepotism with athletes. Especially in communities that invest in kids from the time they're in middle school and see another athletes kid get a draft spot (I disagree that there is plenty of room for athletes in the NBA. I think development windows can be short and the list of players in the NBA is even shorter.) I think fans have a right to be upset if the team risks winning for a PR stunt. Saying that, I think more fans want to see a father and son play in the NBA. I don't understand how this is racial. Athletes are a different kind of job. The first story even admitted that she didn't do much work in the job she was given because of family. It can work in office situations but fans don't want to invest in watching a losing team so another wealthy guy can feel good.
