    Hi Liz, I’ve followed you and Wal fossiking, prospecting, camping and making jewelry for several years now, and I thank you for your generous spirit as a teacher, and taking us along on your many adventures. You have shown us parts of Australia that we would never have seen otherwise! I started making jewelry after being inspired by your videos! I really enjoy doing it, and my friends and family look forward to Christmas and birthdays a lot more! Thank you for sharing!
    So, I live in California. We are in the midst of the longest drought “in over 100 years,” but really, our recorded history doesn’t go back much more than that. We stopped watering our lawn over a year ago, to save water. We were apparently visionaries, because now people have been ordered to stop watering their lawns, and the only green lawns in my neighborhood are artificial turf. We are going to widen our driveway to accommodate more cars, and will soon rent out the granny flat in our home.
    The remaining yard will be a rock garden with succulents! I have been buying a few succulents, but mostly, I propagate from leaves I find on the ground under the succulents at the big box home improvement centers. I take my little handful of treasures to the cashier, and tell her that I found them on the ground, and ask if I can keep them. So far, they always say yes! I put them in a plastic baggy in my purse, in view of the cashier, so I’m not accused of shoplifting. I saw a video about doing this on UA-cam. It is called proplifting! But, as I said, I ask permission.
    We just came out of a very long, miserable heat wave. The leaves were mostly doing nothing, and some died. But within a week of the end of the heat wave, all of the surviving leaves sprouted roots and pups! So now I have many different succulents in different sizes, shapes and colors, and I am so excited to get to work tearing out the dead grass and getting our rock garden started!
    We have our home in Orange County, and also a ranch in the local mountains. At the ranch, we have some gorgeous rocks! I have been choosing the most beautiful and unique ones for our rock garden. So the rocks have special meaning to us, as well as being beautiful. I remember one of your videos where you brought home beautiful stones and crystals from your travels and put them in your back yard. You took us around and identified many beautiful rocks and I couldn’t help but think about how you will see them and remember happy memories of your travels with Wal for the rest of your life!
    So I want to thank you for your inspiration on two different activities that I now thoroughly enjoy! Thank you for teaching us, and thank you for inspiring me!
    In one of your videos, you said that someone was stealing from your succulents. I would like to suggest that you get some motion sensor cameras for your home. Especially since you and Wal (and Pedro) travel. We have a RING floodlight cam over the garage door. It picks up all activity in our front yard. It notifies us of motion, and allows us to sound an alarm, or talk to people. Our house has a recessed front entry, with a covered breezeway leading to the front door. We have a RING doorbell. We can talk to people at our front door. They don’t know if I’m there or 1,000 miles away. And these alerts are recorded.
    I bought and installed the doorbell, and was truly impressed with it! A short time later, someone cut the lock on our gate at the ranch and robbed us. Thousands of dollars of equipment that was paid for with our blood, sweat and tears! I believed the thieves were coming back. So I bought two RING spotlight cams. They were the only ones that would work with the solar panels. We installed them at the ranch and headed home.
    We didn’t even make it all the way home when I received a RING alert on my iPad! I saw a strange truck pull into view, pulling OUR utility trailer! And the two thieved wore motorcycle helmets to hide their identity as they broke into hubby’s tool shed and began filling our trailer with our tools! I called the local sheriff, and stayed on the phone with him as he headed to the ranch. He arrested the thieves right outside out gate! And, the next day, search warrants were served at the two men’s homes, where some of our equipment from the first break in were recovered!
    I wish you all the best!

      Wow Patti, you certainly have gone through some drama. I'm sorry this happened to you but glad that those thieving mongrels were caught.
      We too had our share of record-breaking drought where the last one ended in 2020, and since then, we had nothing but rain and floods. Back then, we too had water restrictions and were not allowed to water our lawns and that was the reason I started growing succulents.
      Thank you for your support over the years and may you continue to do what you love. Wishing you all the very best.

    I just ordered my first blue bird last week and then from an instagram seller over the weekend, got a small three headed blue bird cluster already stressed pink. I will be getting those over the next week, but bought them partly because I watched a variety of your previous videos with your beautiful blue birds!

    Here where I live the problem is excessive rainfall. I live in Belém (Big metropolis) in the Amazon region of Brazil. Some succulents do well in rainy weather, but most only do well in the greenhouse. And the sun here is too much sometimes

    I have been trying to get a blue bird but no such luck. I have been given some diff exheverias under the name of blue bird. Its vexing. The arrangement with the medusa head and violet queen looks so beautiful. So many different and yet beautiful echeverias in one pot. The opuntia are real bad and give a nasty rash too. I got rid of mine.

  • @snowchi
    @snowchi Рік тому

    Your prolifica looks sooo cute and chubby!! Must've been given a good stressing to get that. But damn that echeveria lives up to its name as i have a lot of its leaves randomly falling and establishing themselves wherever. I even planted some outside...however those ones are so gone thanks to the cockatoos ripping up the garden bed I planted them in 😑
    Also, is that white elegans also known as Elegans alba? I really want to add one to my collection 😆
