You may have to .these cases are made of old engine cases and the quality of the cast is pretty poor .I have welded them before and you need to get some with patience and the skill to repair it . By the way I'm not offering 😂
Good night Ash and Kate i love watching you on your you tube videos on your you tube channel please Ash when is kate going to be back on your you tube videos please keep safe and warm please kee p up your good work on your you tube channel did you both enjoy your Christmas and I hope both of you had a great new year
Notes, any engine work always cover anything exposed that leads into the heart of the engine. Even blue roll or rags in the passage ways. The swarf no matter how well you clean it will end up doing the rounds through the engine, once it's in there, it's in there. I junked a 2019 engine for this reason. The failure points on these are typically the big end and any engine with fine particulate contamination - these will get scratched up. Next time, bag it and use a good painters tape to cover the exposed areas. He could have brazed that no issue with the stator cover on or that whole area covered. It would have burned or deformed the cover but it would have prevented contamination. The braze will hold up absolutely fine though, no need to frame mount the side stand, just don't sit on the bike with it down or twist the bike on it Been an interesting watch, especially syphoning oil out the sump...Jesus ahaha😅 You're getting there though.
Thanks mate, you're right, I definitely should have protected it a bit better, I didn't realise it would be that messy to be honest... what's done is done though 😊
@AshRowland aye mate it is. Lesson learned aye. Even if you get 200 miles out of it, it'll be worth it. Man that doesn't make mistakes never does any work. Getting there though aye. Fucking syphoning with a line had me in stitches. Use pro4 oil it, great for hard wearing engines. Be sure to check the drain bolt for swarf. So close
Ash, You should've removed the engine and had that welded up properly and off of the bike. Is there any splatter inside the sump now? Did you remove the ECU before welding? Did the oil drain during the crash and was the engine running? It could be seized up or worse.
As far as I'm aware the engine wasn't running as I suspect the bike was hit whilst parked on the side stand and it snapped off, taking a part of the engine with it
Presuming this will have been TIG welded, the chance of spatter would be very low I'd have thought. I'd be more concerned the milky oil being the result of head gasket failures.
Most normal people would have pulled the drain plug out of the water pump housing. 😂 You should have pulled that strainer out to drain the oil. Personal opinion. Make sure you change the brake and clutch fluid. Those clutch slave cylinders rot out badly from rotten fluid.
Love the way nothing phases you. Great video, cannot wait for your next update.
Thanks Paul 😊
Nice job that..well done Ash 👍
Thanks mate 👍
Looking great after welding😎👍
Thanks mate... it stands on the side stand as well now!
Nice repair, I’d drop the oil again after a few miles just to help flush it out.
Definitely going to do that 👍
nice mate not long before your riding it
Weather dependant I'm afraid 🤣
Silver smooth hammerite aresol spray to paint over the weld just to finish it off after taking so much effort to fix it?
@@andyhorner5027 this, it's a bit of a hack but it works really well
Great idea, thanks 👍 you can't see it behind the fairing really but ill revisit this at some point 😊
Fantastic. It begs belief why it was written off.
I'm pretty sure the insurance company would have wanted to replace the whole crank case

id change the oil again after a few hundred miles just to be sure
Definitely going to be doing this a few times 👍

I did remove the strainer in the end, you'll see in the next video... the water hoses had to come off anyway to remove the alternator cover 😉
Woooo
Yep 😎
Facepalm
😬
@AshRowland 😆
Why would they mount a side stand the engine casing weird
