    years ago I had an old timer tell me "you get to be a slave to all your possessions as you get older" at that time in my life that statement really didn't make a lot of sense to me. Now lets fast forward about 30 years......holy crap, that old timer hit the nail on the head. My wife and I are slowly planning and weeding the herd(so to speak)ya its kind of hard to let things go but, it feels good once its gone and I never have to repair it or clean it or organize it again. Now I'm really looking forward to looking after THREE things in my life being, my wife, my truck and our trailer. Thanks for sharing :)

      Love you screen name, Due North. And yes, we can't take it with us, so then it becomes our loved one's stuff, and so on, and so on! And it's work keeping track of everything and organizing! It doesn't just occupy space, it occupies the mind!

    • @pameladudrow247
      @pameladudrow247 5 років тому +1

      Due North I completely agree with you! Having inherited my great-grandmother, grandmother’s and mother’s “treasures”’; I have kids who don’t want these items. So it’s up to me to either sell, donate, or toss items. (Do I really need the tresses of my great grandmother’s first haircut? Good Lord! Some of my saved items could be declared bio-hazards!) 😂 And it is a relief to get rid of stuff. Both physically and emotionally!

    I can't even. You guys have been a lifesaver in our start of our journey. We also have decided over a (brace yourself) a 2 month journey of downsizing from 2400 sq ft to a 5th wheel. Processing everything and putting the house on the market in 1 week. Your tips and the advice on the inevitable moments of "what the hell am I doing" are normal and WILL happen have been so valuable (and have already happened a time or two). Our last baby bird is leaving for college and freaked out when we told him the plan. I think he was referencing "The Griswolds" when we told him about the RV. lol Once we had him walk a new RV he decided it wasn't so bad and his parents weren't completely crazy. Please keep up all the videos and tips. You both are amazing!

    • @RVOddCouple
      @RVOddCouple  5 років тому

      That's a ton of change. So yes, be easy on yourself. And as exciting as it is to have the last baby bird leaving the nest that's a whole life-changing event in and of itself. Selling the house is another. Transitioning to an RV is another. And you have 3 in the same 2 month span. With that said though, what a privilege! What a privilege to have this opportunity, have a healthy child embarking on adulthood. And what a privilege be traveling with your love. So I promise you it's worth it but let yourself cry whenever you darn well please! lol. Love to you and yours and congratulations on such an adventure!

    Great tips! It took us a full year to downsize into our RV. Same as you, we started selling all things we didn't need, then after that we just started downsizing each room. By the end of 1 year, all we had left was just the main things for staging and selling the house. After the house sold, we got rid of the remaining furniture, bought the RV, lived out of our suitcases for about a month at the in-laws, then moved into the RV life.
    We found downsizing to be very liberating. We know what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another, but we loved the entire downsizing process and especially loved getting rid of all the stuff that was burdening our lives. Now we're free in so many ways and don't miss any of the sticks and bricks stuff. For me personally, I just love not having a HUGE house to clean anymore. OMG! and can we talk yard work. Don't miss that one bit! LOL!
    Great video guys! Thanks for sharing your tips with us! Woohoo!
    Peace & Love!
    Have a Glamperrific Day!

      The Glamping Guys my husband and I are downsizing now ( but I actually started 2 years ago) anyway it’s overwhelming and I agree it’s liberating but also exhausting.....I think we’ll finally have the house up for sale in a couple weeks!! I’m getting ready to move into the rv while we’re finishing up on the details, it will keep the house clean and get us ready and get to know where things are in the rv. Anyway had to put my two cents in on downsizing, and want to finish. Thanks

    Hello guys. My name is William Logan. I'm from Bishopville, South Carolina. I became disabled in Oct. 2013. I had my left foot amputated, below the knee. It was due to Diabetes, Hypertension , and Stage 3 Renal Failure. I went on disability until this January. I'm now on my Social Security. I've told you all of this, to say that with all of this free time on my hands. I watch a lot of tv, and now UA-cam.I've just started watching your tube tonight. I'm very impressed, you explain everything so clearly, and to the POINT. Unlike, so many of the others, who go around their elbows to get to their thumbs. AND NEVER DO. THANK YOU. I know that I will never be able to do the RV lifestyle, I did not look ahead or prepare for the future as I should have, now, I'm living in an Assisted living facility. I can take care of myself, BUT, I DIDN'T PREPARE AS I WAS TAUGHT TO BY MY PARENTS. Now, it's all MY FAULT for where I am. I wish that I could help you, but, with only $91.00 coming to me form my Social Security, I'm sorry to say that I'm unable to. I will be PRAYING FOR YOU EVERYDAY THOUGH. Thank you so much. You've made my day so much better. God bless you and keep you safe in ALL OF YOUR TRAVELS.

      I want to thank you for taking the time to tell us about yourself. This comment means a lot. When you talk about going around your elbow to get to your thumbs it made us giggle. We're humbled that you took the time to leave us a kind note. We don't want your money, we want your emotional support.- Which you have already done for us. Comments like these give us motivation. You've helped us more then you know!

    I really love you guys! Mercedes, you’ve found yourself a real gem whom you’re married to. I don’t know the age difference, but, for ten years I was married to a man 9 years my senior who, because of failed relationships/marriages of his past, didn’t marry me for love but rather as an accessory. I applaud your decision to marry a guy who truly loved you and your “essence”....what a Sweetie! That being said, I REALLY enjoy your channel and your content. Your hubby was SO supportive as you worked through your issues on what was ultimately important. Your channel not only addresses the nuts and bolts of switching to a nomad life but also, the emotional aspects surrounding such a decision...I’ve learned more about the human condition from your videos as I have gleaned from other youtube channels relating to life on the road. I offer a true heartfelt thanks for your gifts, and hope to meet you on the road someday. Thank you!♥️

      Pamela, I couldn't agree with you more. John knows how to love me for who I am, not who I could be or should be, but for who I am today. And yes, he indulges me in my ridiculous, let's bring a truck full in and half a truck full out! He has a certain maturity and appreciation for things that I am grateful for. I didn't want to marry a boy, I wanted to marry a man. His experience makes him wiser and I'm thankful that our paths crossed! He's a great husband and an even better dad. You're eyes see beneath the surface indeed! Thank you again Pamela! Hope we meet someday!💚💚

    We just finished purging. It took almost a year and was painful at best going through it. You look around and realize how much money you spent on stuff, that in the end doesn't really matter. We made lists of practical or needed items, sentimental and give away/ sell. We have a handheld portable scanner and i scanned every photo and then gave them back to the kids for them to have. We have a digital picture frame and will be able to see everything now. We asked or thought about each child and what they would like or need and handed down a lot of stuff that way. I was selling stuff at almost giveaway prices so we had no problem there. The sentimental was the hardest pile. We took pics, divided out to family and took lots of deep breaths. Everything is currently in a 5 x 7 storage until we get our rig. 30 years of growing a family came with a lot of stuff and now in the end it feels so liberating to not be surrounded by stuff, but rather needs. Love your video and sorry you had a tool that stole from ya.

    • @RVOddCouple
      @RVOddCouple  5 років тому

      Exactly! Spent so much money it feels wrong to get rid of stuff. But that wont bring the money back and some things can't be undone. Great idea with the photos. 5x7 is a lot of downsizing. So glad you got through it and yes, it's very liberating indeed! Thank you for your kind words. Looking back we wish we had spent a year. It would have been less stressful!

    After 30 years in a house I downsized twice, once to a 34 ft sailboat for a year and the second time involuntarily when Katrina took the boat and we started over again. Have been back in a house for 10 years now and cant believe the junk I've accumulated again. I have a six year plan and am looking forward so much to downsizing again and taking to the road. Downsizing can feel like a lifting of burden, it's all about attitude and accepting that one really doesnt need much to be happy and free. I enjoy your videos, thank you.

    Just got onto your UA-cam! It will be about 4 years before we commit to a 5th wheel bc we now live in Italy. But I really like your advise and realism. Will keep checking in on y’all. Yes, we downsized and sold everything in our home in just 8 hours on FB before coming to Italy. The last night in our home we slept in front of the fireplace on air mattresses and sat in Coleman camper chairs. Fun memories . After 43 yrs of marriage we flew to Italy with 6 large suitcases, it was all we owned.

    What stuck with me was comment about being too trusting and about how someone stole from you and the damage to your furniture. I just hope these were outliers and most folks you dealt with were positive and cool. In my little town most folks take care of each other and are in integrity, however you saying ask for help is so true. Folks want to help so ask for it. It will bless both of you. Safe travels...cheers.

    We used an estate sale company and it was well worth the fee (25%). I took out what I wanted to keep. They cleaned out every drawer, closet, attic, workshop, and garage. They set it up and staged it, advertised and had the sale. They even cleaned the house when it was empty on the last day. They have security cameras in every room. I would definitely do it the same way again. We kept enough for a two bedroom condo which we will store. Yes, I had definite attachment to family things and I still mourn them but my son didn’t want any of it so it was inevitable. Now I will have experiences in place of the things.

      You know I was wondering how much they charged, so thank you for sharing. 25% to not have to worry is well worth it. Especially because everything that is going on already had us feeling discombobulated! Lesson learned the hard way! Thank you Sally!

    I’m doing the down-sizing right now as I listen. Thanks for the you can do it, push!! 😂 I’ve went through my clothes 3 times and I’m going through for the 4th right now. A friend of mine knows a lady who is in need, since her house just burn down so I will give her some of anything she needs. It will be a win/win gotta get rid of it and I can help someone in need. 😊I know what a fire feels like as a kid we lost our home and only had the clothes on our back afterwards.
    We have until 1st of November to be all finished. It seems like we’ll never make it. 3 bedroom, “my two adult daughter’s junk” 2 bath, my music room 3 guitars, 3 amps, huge Congo drum, keyboard and tons of Jazz Fest Posters that I just love. Sad 😢 for that to go but it’s gotta. We also have a huge backyard with tons of tools and garden stuff. I may do all I can and then get an estate agent to come in. Cause it sure feels impossible for sure. And I seem to hate to get rid of stuff someone gave or made me too. 😏 Anyway thanks again y’all, I’m enjoying your videos! God Bless ❤️🙏🏻

    Thank you so much for this video. We have been slowly downsizing for about 3 years. Yes, years. We bought the rv and have it at a campground about 30 minutes from the house. We workkamp and live there part time and stay in the house part time. It's been kind of an experiment to see if we can do this and now that we are more comfortable about it, we are in full gear to get rid of the remaining of our belongings and just be done with it. Hoping to be done very soon and get the house on the market. I'm exhausted doing both places and am ready to just donate all that's left. Hate to do it but as you said, what we paid doesn't matter. What matters is what we can get for it. And if we can't get interest soon in the remaining furniture, it will be donated. Just gotta do it. Again thanks for the encouragement

    I have some input on downsizing... I took allot of the same steps you've done in rounds through the last year... My step I will be purchasing an RV and a final round. Now, my input - look at your items you're currently left with. Instead of looking at it as a project of downsizing and what you're giving up, look at it all as gone and what are you going to "save" or keep. This, to me is easier to emotionally accept the drastic amount of giving up items.

    Hey guys , this video certainly hit home , as I said my wife and I sold our home , gave away a lot of stuff to family ( most of our furniture ) and somehow we still ended up with 4 storage rooms. my wife and I merged two households of stuff myself I had a commercial construction company and all the equipment that goes with that , add that to some space sucking hobbies and presto $600 a month in storage fees. we didn't do a yard sale or anything but should have we might have been able to retire.
    We also both ride motorcycles and we have to have them with us everywhere we go along with all the gear that goes with them.
    that adds another thought is that we have a second trailer that we haul the bikes in so there is storage of the trailer at rv parks some times that is a huge issue. some parks simply don't allow a trailer on the grounds.
    You guys were just about spot on with the expenses. I can add just a couple more to them , a good jack for the RV to change the tires if needed along with a good lug nut wrench ( I carry a battery powered impact wrench ) roadside safety triangles or flares are a must ! another good idea would be florescent flags to wave off those texting drivers while working on the side of the road after all safety is everything .... a roadside safety video might be a hit and could save someones life ?? Any way thanks for all you guys do it is very helpful .. be safe, be happy and enjoy life !

      Hi Craig, Thank you for sharing! You bring up excellent points. It can get expensive quickly. And it's not easy to drastically reduce what we've spent a lifetime accumulating. Im so happy i stumbled across your videos! My husband and i are looking into purchasing a midbunk 5th wheel in the next year or so. I already went through the down size process we had a garage sale a few weeks ago we were paying $100 for a storage that had all our things. We decided that it was time to let go of all the baggage and start fresh with only the items we need, we are also into dave ramsey and following his steps to get out of our 40,000 debt, so we had to cut down on costs and start our budgeting list.. We made a decision to full time travel along with my husband and his job so we left our rental home and i took our children (6 yr old daughter,5yr old son)out of school and started our homeschool journey (about 6 months ago) We are blessed that the company pays for a hotel or rental home for us where ever they send him, but the packing up and moving every three months is def a pain in the butt! so we decided we needed our own travel trailer so it can be more of our OWN space. i love the thought of minimal living and be able to save up for our dream home one day. I loved how you made your 5th wheel into your own space and moved and added things to fit your needs. Im taking Notes!!! God bless you both and your baby girl.

      Andrea thank you so much for your heartfelt comment. I can feel the excitement and commitment when I read your story. You and your husband are clearly working together as a team and prioritizing your family's unity! I may need to ask for your assistance when it comes to homeschooling. Our domicile is in FL. I heard they may not be the easiest state to work with. But frankly I haven't even begun to research this! Sage is 3, she'll be 4 in Sept. That will be here in no time. I'm excited to learn more about your family's journey to full time RVing. Minimal living is awesome but not for the faint of heart. I used to get so excited when I would find an item in the clearance section, be it a do-dad, house decor item, maybe a new food we haven't tried. But 8 out of 10 times the excitement was over as soon as I found that item a home. And when food is in clearance it's usually for a reason... Not to mention that even if nothing is wrong with it, if it's not something we usually eat, I often end up throwing it away later when it does finally expire. So basically I labeled spending as saving and collecting as organizing or being "prepared." I thought that as a mom I need to be ready for every situation. So part of being a good mom is having one of everything, right? Nope! Not really! Not if it means spending more time with stuff than my daughter. So thank you for reaching out and I welcome you to our "RV Odd Squad" as we make mistakes and work our way through them. Thank you for sharing your story!

      I'm still a newbie but I enjoy this journey with my kids. We are very laid back when it comes to learning since I have no experience in the teaching department but I do see the progress they have come in just 6 months. I'm also part of an amazing group on facebook that keeps me motivated and reminds me I'm not the only one losing my mind 3-4 times a week. I'll send you a link to the homeschool curriculum that I use it's very kid friendly and my kids love it.

      There is also a Facebook group dedicated just for Time4learning Mom's and Dad's that need advice or different ways how to teach a certain lesson.

      I never thought that I would be homeschooling my 2 children. I was actually excited when they started school which didn't last long at all. They are 10 months apart so the thought of being able to have some hours to myself and gain my sanity back was a very exciting time for me, but that plan went out the window a few months into the school year when we decided to travel with the job full time. I can honestly say now I wouldn't want it any other way I love having my children home with me and be able to raise them and make memories on our little road trips. We wake up and do our school work in our PJs with no judgement 😂

    We are currently in the process. We moved from our house to a 1 bedroom apartment. We are going to rent out our house while we travel. We hired an estate company and they sold the stuff quickly. They had an online auction no one in the house. This made this process very easy.
    We will be packing up things that will fit in the back of the truck and heading out of California to Texas where we plan on purchasing the RV. Who knows if we will packing up the correct items. Maybe this should be a topic of things that you need and things you don’t.

    Great video, you are so right about downsizing. I have been present as the kids that I grew up with sold their parents homes after their passing. As that time also comes closer for me and my parents built this house in 1958; there is all that stuff for all those years in here. Attic, crawl space, basement. Furniture the list is endless. One of my friends did it all themselves clean up and all. Took a year to get it done. The second friend hired people and a dumpster and she directed them dumper or estate sale. As she stood there and looked fabulous. Then she hired an estate company to sell all her mom's designer vintage clothes and imported furniture. The company put all of it outside in the front yard under tents and the house was locked up tight. That's how I'm doing it whenever that time comes. I do home flipping as well so one of my investors is ready, willing and able to buy this from me and I will be to my friends RV dealership and I am out of Chicago forever. You reinforced what I was thinking. Thanks again for your videos.

And I don't know about you, but the last thing I want to do is burden Sage with stuff. But I do want to leave here with a box of golden memories. And a year sounds about right for household full of stuff. Thank you Donna.

    We're in process of downsizing. We have a vacation rental so we will keep that so when we can't travel anymore we can stop and move in. We will sell our house and items. I thought to share this for anyone ever thought of turning their home into a vacation rental like Airbnb or VRBO. It works best around lake or popular designations. If we need a break we can always block the dates and stay at rental house. We plan to workcamp in Spring 2020. So we have plenty of time to sell stuff and if we need to we may do estate sale at the end. We'll see how that will work out. Thanks for the tips.

    I lived in my RV last year for 8 months but had to come home to get the house ready for sale. I’m fortunate that my daughter and son-in-law took some of the big things. I still have a lot to go through but I’m getting there. I gave some stuff to my sisters. My soon to be ex (4 more days!) took enough furniture for himself. After I get rid of the last bit in a couple of weeks, I’ll be full-time in my RV. It’s been hard letting go of some things and very easy for others. I gleaned some good advice from you and others comments.
    Hoping the house sells fast and we’re done. Having a huge garage sale this summer at my daughter’s - what doesn’t sell, will be donated. I stay at two campgrounds from April through mid-November. At one I’ll have a shed for lawn furniture, etc.
    I plan on traveling south for the winter. It’s been my dream for a long time.

    I'm with you, Mercedes. I get attached to stuff that are gifts, and that I "might need someday" but haven't yet in 36 years of keeping house. But I might! Also mementos and photographs! I'm freaking out and I'm a few years away from hitting the road.

    My Family helped tremendously with our downsizing! My 3 Children and their spouses took almost everything! That still left us with a ton, mostly sentimental items....my Son said 'take a picture of the sentimental items and save the picture'! How ingenious!
    The other thing I did, I kept our mattress and box spring! We also have a 10' x 10' storage, climate controlled, $150 a month, we plan on downsizing our storage soon.
    Keeping the mattress and box spring just in case we have to come back and rent a home.

    Great video guys. Keep it up so we can all learn. We decided to go full time a few months ago. We thought we were going to use an estate sale company for sake of time. Well they said minimum $15k at 30%. I thought we had that (even excluding our larger items I wanted to sell on our own) needless to say, no one called back or they couldn’t meet my timeline. I ended up doing it my self (with parents and friends - thanks for that advice) we made about $2k. Then the donation part. I really wanted to donate to a good cause. No one would pick up, they had restrictions, all that. So we ended up taking it all to goodwill - they were close and not picky. The tax AP gave me more tax savings than the sale. Who knew!!! We got a large storage unit so we can walk around in it (to start). House goes on the market in 2 weeks. Appreciate your prayers!

    The hardest thing for me to get rid of was firearms and accessories. I really loved casting my own bullets out of scrap lead and then using those cast bullets to reload my ammo. I had 5 gallon buckets full of processed lead ready for reloading that I had to get rid of. You couldn't even lift one of those buckets , so they were way to heavy to take with us. But going to the range and shooting bullets I made from scratch was really satisfying to me. I really enjoyed that and it was hard to get rid of.
    And yes , tools are hard too because you never know what you're going to need to make repairs .
    Nice video guys, thanks for sharing.

    Dang, you both got hit hard with lessons, and I really am ever so sorry you both had to go through that. Those were harsh. Some people say, things happen for a reason. I’m not one for platitudes, but they might be right with this one. What I’m trying to say is, the both of you are real decent folk and the cons out there can see an easy mark a mile away. However, even though you’re still good people, there is a different swagger in your step. You may or may not notice this, but a number of the cons can.
    By learning to not be so trusting, especially on the road, you’re protecting your rig and family. You’ve shown this with your security cameras and changing the locks etc on your rig. All great steps.
    You’re also still nice to people, but you’re more likely to think things through, rather than jump at helping someone out for whatever reason they give. If anyone, and I mean anyone, even if it’s an old lady who asks for something that may leave one or both of you vulnerable, let them know you will get back to them. Discuss it between the both of you and come up with a game plan that doesn’t leave you vulnerable and get back to them. If it means asking additional neighbors for assistance, so be it and better too.
    I’ve known cons that would have had you both saying, no way they couldn’t be. Oh yes way. They come in all colors and stripes and just because they’re either young or old doesn’t mean they’ve haven’t either been set up to it or have been doing it a very long time. These people travel around a lot because they usually burn their bridges wherever they stay. Just because they’re moving, doesn’t mean they haven’t stopped playing. It’s usually all they know anyways.
    I’m a pretty nice person too, and it’s one of my flaws as well as one of my good parts. I have to be careful as well, so I don’t get played. I still make mistakes, but I’m learning from them just like you guys.
    How do I know so much about cons? You were wondering right? No? That’s alright, I will tell you anyways. 😊🍿 My Dad taught me a lot and so did my best friend. My best friend and I were quite the odd couple too. He was an old biker guy retired from raising hell and when I met him, I was a university student. Something with us just clicked. Will never figure it out, I just know he was my very best friend, and it lasted twenty years. He passed away two years ago June 20th.
    It’s okay, don’t be sad, I feel him around me all the time. I also have some of the greatest memories to look back on.
    I hope you both have an amazing week.
    Be well and stay smiling,
    Ma’iingankwe

    Dad had Alzheimer’s and mom realized that they would have move into Assisted Living.
    Dad built a garage for his extra tools (retired plumber). He had about 6 Two Man Saws and so many various table saws it was mind boggling on what he had accumulated over lifetime.
    In one small corner was his collection of nails, in boxes of 500 each. He had shelves of drills, wrenches, and wood.
    It took 4 weeks to empty that garage, what we didn’t sell we donated to Habitat for Humanity.
    I’m a few years out from getting rid of our stuff. I did get a lot of tools from dad for my future RV, but in reality I can’t even use a Phillips Screwdriver without stripping of the head, so I’ll sell or give away most of the tools I took to repair an RV.
    Love you guys, and you have some great tips on pricing your items.

    Four months, downsizing. WOW!!! Two years. Lots of garage sales. Lived in a small town so Craigslist didn't work for us. Just newspaper ads and tied to sell stuff. Good advice on get the money before they move it to their vehicle. Always be sure you get cash only. No checks. Didn't buy our truck and trailer until during the second year. Our house didn't sell as fast as we thought it would, so ended up selling all the furniture and leaving in October. Place sold a month later. We didn't have anything in storage when we left.

      @RVOddCouple  5 років тому

      Two years is far more realistic! Craigslist is hit or miss. Every community is different, so I can understand why it wouldn't work in a small town. But funny how it sold after you left. Thankfully it was only a month later! But yes, years is more realistic!

    Good info I love, love purging. When we 1st started I put everything I wanted to keep for my daughter in storage. Than donated a bunch of stuff. Hit the road with stuff I thought we needed than purged by giving or trading with other RVers. Learned after 2-3 months what was needed or not. Definitely a learning curve. Happy Safe Trekking 🚎🙏✌️God Bless

      @RVOddCouple  5 років тому +1

      You couldn't be more right about the learning curve! :-)We're still figuring out what we need and don't need. It's tricky because the change of seasons sometimes brings a slight change in gear. We're trying to chase 70 degrees but this insane winter we were unsuccessful! lol.

      RV Odd Couple yeah that’s the fun part. We tell ourselves everything is only temporary. We keep a storage unit for the seasons so we’re are not carrying unnecessary weight. In winter we store summer stuff. Summer store our winter stuff. We travel around with 2 grandsons who can be very active. Happy Safe Trekking 🚎🙏✌️. God bless.

    Pictures and scrapbooks were difficult. Made digital copies. As for holiday decorations, I went through them at the holiday. The reality that it didn't fit into our small space made decisions easier. I actually kept a very small amount. We had a unit for the year. We are still rving, built the tiny home is a home base for retirement, domicile, and family. On the road mostly film time in a few years.

    Sometimes I think the best way to prepare for full time RVing is to pretend your house burned down and you lost everything. What do you “actually need” to live? Buy that from yourself and load it into the RV. Forget emotional attachment. Remember, everything was to be considered lost.

      Bittersweet, yet real. I'm currently downsizing. My personal motivation and inspiration is the beautiful spirit and positive attitude of a dear friend who DID lose her home and possessions in a California Wildfire last year. It IS just stuff...life, love, health, family, experiences and memories are our most blessed possessions.

    Wow, Im so sorry you guys went through so much! I did not have any success selling my items so most was donated or I set things out for people to take. I was running out of time & had to leave my apartment. Letting go of clothes was the hardest for me! Lol I bought my rv in October, had to store it & take things to it little by little in my Mini Cooper. I was out of my apartment by the end of November, did one more month at work & lived in the rv, retired at the end of December & moved to OC in January. My tools and hobby are my big thing to downsize but I'm making progress.
    I've also figured out other ways to do thing. I sold my table saw and got a couple of good saw horses and a circular saw attachment from Kreg that makes my circular saw work like a table saw. I'm selling other tools that I'll never need on an RV, won't need a planner. Other things I'll keep like my nail gun, compressor, and such.

    • @RVOddCouple
      @RVOddCouple  5 років тому

      I get it. It's really hard. Especially with tools that you've used to using most of your life. Air compressor & nail guns are pretty heavy to carry with you. You may want to consider selling those items and getting a battery operated air nailer. Takes up less spaced and much less weight. I sold my compressor and kept all my pneumatic guns? Not sure what I was thinking here. -John

    • @JeremyPrattigmp2u
      @JeremyPrattigmp2u 5 років тому +1

      @@RVOddCouple I'm really attached to my Bostitch finish nailer, i've had that for 24 years and never a problem. I really like the Ryobi 18v tools and have picked up quite a few of those including their nailer. I figure my pancake compressor can come along unless the new truck has integrated air for the bags. I had this idea that I could help at camp grounds do maintenance, fix things, build patios and fences in exchange for staying there. I ran into this old timer once at Mono Village while we were camping who says that he hasn't paid for camping in two years by helping out. He built a new deck area off of one of the buildings at Mono. For cross country trips I would bring my wrenches, sockets, hammer, mallet, electrical tools, a floor jack and a couple of jack stands in case I needed them and they were useful for helping others, i'm glad I never needed them but luck favors the prepared and I wanted to be prepared. Now that you're full time i'm very interested in what tools you have needed along the way.

    • @RVOddCouple
      @RVOddCouple  5 років тому

      Jeremy Pratt LoL... I have 4 Bostich nailers on board. I completely understand your reasoning and think it’s a really good idea to help others to help pay for the lifestyle as you travel. If you have the room and don’t go over weight, go for it. We pack our RV for 3 people, so I have to share cargo space. Trust your gut, you can always adjust as you go along 👍
