    Now I wish I had these when I was a kid - now I would have caught a ton of fish. Now you know I was gathering the crawling stone cases and using what's on the inside for bait. A ton of them. Must have gathered a solid 100 to use a bait over my lifetime. Solid love your video here. Please keep at it. : )

    Lead tape would be fine as well, I like the colour I get from the wire at times it's certainly worth trying.

    Hey Daive, If you take a lighter to that body material. Close just to heat it up you can stretch it thin and it ties in very well. You can do it to the other end when tying off too and the end disappears with the thread turns. All the best to you and yours. God bless.

    Hi Davie, is there a reason you tie these on straight shank hooks? Is that how they appear under water?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  4 роки тому

      Hi Hencape,
      If you turn over a stone you will find these caddis larva very easy and see that they crawl around much like a caterpillar although tyed on a curved or a straight hook makes very little difference to the fish as I have caught many fish on both..I would say though I do like tying them on a straight hook..

    Hey Davie, do they sell Pantone pens in the U.S. do you know? I can't seem to find one anywhere. I have been putting yellow down, and before it dries using a med green. It is as close to olive as I can get. Sort of a sick looking olive but dark green just doesn't lighten up enough over yellow. I will tie a few of these, I haven't come across anything like this in all the videos I watch. Thanks for sharing. All the best to you, Sean

    David, you are the best! I am an apprentice in the art of tying and have tried to tie an ant specific Brazil, very common in the region where I practice fly fishing. The animal is this
    Atta sexdens rubropilosa
    with wings
    any suggestions?

    Hi Dave, love your work. I've tried many of your patterns myself and feel because of them I'm able to tie something that I'm pleased with, however not sure about the trout :-) Is it possible to include in your comments: where, when and how you would fish them? Example would be Lake, Spring, slow retrieve. Tight lines. Paul

      @DavieMcPhail  8 років тому

      Hi Paul Dickens,
      I'm glad you enjoy the videos and that they have helped you tye a better fly.. I have mentioned in some of my videos how I fish certain patterns but to be honest I do prefer not to do this and concentrate on tying the fly as this is what I know best..Maybe in the future I could do a few videos of fishing methods as it's much easier to show someone rather than trying to explain it..

      I did put a small bend in the hook to encourage the natural look of the fly...

    Hi Davie,
    Just a quick one, how would you fish this one on a still water ? Slow retrieve or static ? (Or both)

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 років тому +1

      Hi Gareth,
      I would normally fish this pattern in the river though you could fish it easily in a Stillwater and fished just as you said slow or static..
