This solution lead my down a path of discovery! I am using the same method, but with different material. I tested it out with a ~15" piece of butchers twine with a finger loop at one end. Makes it a little bit annoying to have it thread through gap behind the door (pushed through with a butterknife), but can have it be any length and have something to really pull on. Still plenty slick enough against plastic, and can be tossed once it gets gross. 100% cotton also, so theres that angle also.
Why? It is sealed (melted) together with the sides at the top. This is a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. And it will eventually destroy the seal around the vacuum slot.
This is so cool that you pull it out, but I don't know if it will work for every sealer machine to pull it out. I was thinking that they should make an embossing tool so you can use any kind of thicker bag. And then I realized that they make embossing plates for crafters for paper already. I looked and there is a thing called an embossing folder--usually plastic. Something like polka dots would work well and you just do it on the one side in a couple places--just rubbing the plate closed on an area of plastic bag with a hard object should work. Embossing folders are around $7, not cheap. Aliexpress direct from China for cheaper if you don't mind waiting.
I just watched another alternative. Put your item in a ziplock with enough room that the sealing section lays flat. Put that in a standard food saver bag and position everything so the ziplock seal remains flat. Put the food saver bag in your device and vacuum it without sealing. If you did it right, the foodsaver and ziplock have been purged and you can slide the ziplock closed like you normally would while it's still in the food saver bag. Then you can remove your ziplock and reuse the food saver bag. This hack depends on the sealer having a vacuum only mode.
@@slicedpage Wood is saying put a bag in a bag. Based on what he is saying. The bag that goes to the sealer is the real seal bag and inside that bag is the zip lock bag. once the air is removed run your fingers through the zip lock to seal the bag. then turn off the sealer. you should now have the zip lock bag sealed and air tight.
Where do you get the heavier gauge plastic bags you are using? I have been using the ziplock freezer bags but would really prefer something heavier for packaging things like pork that doesn’t have a long freezer life in the first place. Right now, I’m sealing in one bag, then using a second one (also vacuum sealed) plus putting like items in very large bags in a vain attempt to organize my chest freezer.
Great/best idea..thx.. As for the top of the ziplock bag,is it just a piece cut off from the top of the bag.. Where you are left with a.double layered top strip sealed at both ends? or a second cut needs to be made on each end so we have 2 top single layers and you used one layer/strip in your video?
I'm wondering if there's other items that will help let the air get pulled out of the bag? How about the sealed areas of any snack bags that have the ridges on their bottoms or a pipe cleaner? Just a thought and definitely worth experimenting with.
This is brilliant idea! I tried ziploc freezer gallon bag, it worked initially, vacuumed and sealed ok, but leaked after a few minutes. Tried two bags all leaking after a while. Which freezer bags are you guys using?
Where did the leak start? Maybe seal to reinforce on all sides of the bag, with a double seal on the top, in case you got a pack of ziploc bags with manufacturer's flaws?
But does constantly pulling that out cause wear on the vacuum gasket? I can't even make a decision on what machine to buy because they all have such bad reviews.
Have to tell you, bought the cheaper one - just don't bother - waste of money. Buy the Food Saver and you'll be glad you did. I got a good one on Amazon $129. Did NOT want to pay that much. The difference is unreal and absolutely WORTH THE MONEY.
I got some Glad brand freezer bags but they melt during sealing. They aren't thick enought. walgreens freezerNice brand bags are nice & thick but they don't carry that brand them anymore in my area. I'm hoping Ziplock bags are thick enough. ?
You don’t remove it til just before the machine starts to seal. On the food saver model I have (just the one from Costco), you can hear a slight change in the pitch of the motor just before it switches to the “seal” function.
I just saw an alternative if your sealer had a vacuum only mode. Put the item in a ziplick freezer bag but don't seal. Put that in the food saver bag. Arrange everything so the ziplock seal remains flat and doesn't get scrunched. Put the bags in the sealer and turn the vacuum on. If you did it right, the ziplock and food saver should be purged of air and you can seal the ziplock like normal inside the food saver. With the ziplock sealed, remove it from the food saver bag which you can reuse.
I bought 300 gallon size bags from IMPAK, 3.5mil, for $82. A bargain when you compare them to the Foodsaver bags and are reliable compared to freezer bags.
My mom has a centuries old vacuum sealer. It came with an attached clip that you simply put beween the open layers to hold it open. I don't get why modern vacuum sealers won't be build with that anymore. It's just annoying.
They don’t use that function any more because the manufacturers want to sell you overpriced bags. And by eliminating the clip, it’s win-win for them. They save by not providing the clip plus bonus bucks when you have to buy their bags. On one channel, a chap devised a way to insert a vacuum gizmo (harvested from coffee bags) into the covers of the locking storage containers bought from Walmart and the Dollar stores.
I bet it would work, and even if it didnt......so thats the one thing that wont work. Its not the be all to end all, just a good idea to save some bags.
The Food Saver company did warn that grated cheese will be compressed back to a block. It can almost be done by using the “pause” button and not vacuuming out all of the air, thereby leaving the strands of cheese separate.
YOU JUST SAVED MY ASS!
lol
Head smacking smart!!! You mom must be so proud!
That is the best one I have seen so far. Great job!
That is a great method! And if you use the vacuum only first, then the seal only you don't need to rush as much to time it!
4 years later - is the usb charger still fresh?
Hahaha
This solution lead my down a path of discovery!

You, my dear friend, are a freakin’ genius!!! Many thanks
That is the BEST yet I have ever seen
I don't throw around the word genius very often but this is genius!
can you try to do an inward fold on each side of the bag?
You have such a nice speaking voice - so lovely listening to your instructions - will give it a try - thx for sharing - cheers from Canada
You are brilliant!!! 🙏 thank you!
I had such difficulty using 2 other techniques you previously mentioned.
Your technique makes more sense.🌷
YOU ARE SO SMART! The left channel bothers me so much every single time I see it in my bags.

but if I miss the seal starting The whole thing is a mess
Rube Goldberg lives! Bravo indeed - nicely done.
Oh my God you just saved my life I make cookies for a living and my FoodSaver wasn't working thank you thank you thank you 😥😥😄😄😄😄😄😄❤❤❤
Absolutely brilliant..thank you!
Brilhant, simple and efficient solution. Bravo!
The best I have seen until yet.
Thank you so much to share this brilliant method.
I will have to see if I can use this method with mine. Thank you.
Will that not eventually ruin the vacuum rubber seal?
Best way I've seen yet.
Thanks so much!
Very clever. Thank you so much to share this brilliant idea.
Brilliant thanks I’ve loads of useless smooth bags I can now use up
Good recipe for the usb charger please?

we need a video

clever, very clever and oh so simple. Thank you

The strip is from just one side of the top of the bag. The bag had different colors on each side, and I used the yellow side.
@@troothserum8268 Ok great thank you - I must say that is truly great thinking! thanks for sharing!
You're a Godsend! Thank you!
Wondering if this would work with a coffee stirrer stick?
I have seen a video where the woman used a straw.
Oh sure, overcomplicate the hell out of a simple process. This guy has got to be an engineer!
Best solution thus far!
Saved me a fortune on some textured plastic they're unreasonably expensive
Hopefully it will work when my vacuum sealer arrives...have you come up with any other ideas to use the smooth bags please ?
I'm wondering if there's other items that will help let the air get pulled out of the bag?
How about the sealed areas of any snack bags that have the ridges on their bottoms or a pipe cleaner? Just a thought and definitely worth experimenting with.
let us know what happens
Bubble wrap apparently

This has been my experience as well!!!
Where did the leak start? Maybe seal to reinforce on all sides of the bag, with a double seal on the top, in case you got a pack of ziploc bags with manufacturer's flaws?
What kind of freezer bag did you use? I tried this and the sealer melted the bag so much that the seal didn't hold.
Try STOPPING the seal heat on your watch. Unplug or use the button if it comes with one.
Won’t work with all vacuum sealers but a damn clever idea for the sealers it will work with.
excellent job thank you for sharing.
But does constantly pulling that out cause wear on the vacuum gasket? I can't even make a decision on what machine to buy because they all have such bad reviews.
DontPanik neither could I honestly. I settled on a cheap white dolphin vac sealer and I’m hoping it doesn’t fail.

Wow! That's brilliant!! thanks for this videao👏👍
You saved me the experiment. I hate not getting a kiss while....you know.
Can we use this machine for packaging peeled garlic and sprouts....please reply
yes and no. You can vacuum seal garlic but not sprouts. Sprouts not only cause gas but emits it. So they would spoil with in a vacuum.
Thank you, very clever!
How does it keep sucking air from the baggie after you remove the channel?
You don’t remove it til just before the machine starts to seal. On the food saver model I have (just the one from Costco), you can hear a slight change in the pitch of the motor just before it switches to the “seal” function.
Very clever tip! thanks
I wonder if you couldn't just do a zigzag fold on the bag itself to create an air channel.
Which foodsaver model are u using?
Where do you get these smooth bags from? The ones I am finding are quite expensive
I just saw an alternative if your sealer had a vacuum only mode. Put the item in a ziplick freezer bag but don't seal. Put that in the food saver bag. probably zip lock freezer bags. you can try sandwich bags they are cheaper, but you may not get a long term seal as they are very thin
Thank you from algeria
This is brilliant!!!!!!!!!
Just a brilliant idea! Thanks.
would that work for mylar bags
I suspect it would. I did purchase some that I knew would fit my machine and think I will give it a shot tomorrow morning.
Omg. Thanks u genius ! I bought 1k bags and it was not vacuumed bags.
I bought 300 gallon size bags from IMPAK, 3.5mil, for $82. A bargain when you compare them to the Foodsaver bags and are reliable compared to freezer bags.

Pretty damn inventive!
Would this work with Mylar bags?
yes...
Thanks mi friend perfect with geryum vac machine
applaudissement, bravo c'est génial !!!
Great video, thanks.
it's like Magics Biggest Secrets "REVEALED"
Nice idea I will give this a shot. Cheers
Thank you
Aren't they sposd to seal the bag even without the top of the zip lock bag.
I'll watch it again 🐸
Can't you just crumple up the top of the bag to wrinkle it and then have the air escape through the wrinkles?
Sounds like a good idea.
wow, great idea thanks!
Genius! Thank you!
what the thickness off the PE..04 or 09?
Who cares, just try it like he shows, you are only out a sandwich bag!
whooooohhh amazing technique. merci beaucoup.
Brilliant!
Great idea!
great video
You just let the cat out of the bag. (vacuum bag :)
Now the FoodSaver executives are scrambling for a redesign of their products. Thank You $$$
Great hack
AWESOME!
Love it
Thanks
Yass! Finally a better way.
Yeah but it’s only good if I had this model. Mine is the 5000 series and therefor can’t do that.
Aww man! Waiting for my 5000 series in the mail.
That is genius!
