    That is comprehensive and a big help to those with these packs, I'm sure. Always nice to hear you explain things and that you're healthy enough to do it. You're deffinitely getting better. Good video, Bob.

    Hi Bob. Excellent information. I look forward to seeing your packs, in person, later this summer. Much to learn, on my part. Since I've been advised to carry no more than 15 (or maybe 20?) pounds on my back, I'm trying to figure out how to best doo this. Cheers, Ken

      I'll be honest with you when I first received my ALICE pack. I didn't use it much.but after one of the straps on my Kelty broke..I had no choice but to grab the ALICE pack for a 3 day 2 night trek. After using it for the first mile and getting it dialed incorrectly. I didn't even notice I was wearing it. It is now my go too pack...I wouldn't trade it for the world brother. Thank you so much for your comment.

    Hi I just wanted to say thanks for the video. Ive tried all manner of packs but keep coming back to alice. I mean i like molle better yet ive had more loose threads in molle packs in one week than ever in my alice in a whole year. As for durability ive got to keep the pack I know will keep going. For what its worth if you can grab the straps from a gi molle medic pack and the bottom tail straps to a gi molle assault pack you can make an amazing pair of straps for the alice pack. Its expensive and similar to the upgraded woodland alice straps but much more comfortable.

    Great video Bob. I never thought about attaching the Molle waist belt to the ALICE when I'm not using a frame. Thanks for sharing. Been working on trying to perfect my medium Alice (w/frame) for about 3 yrs. now. I did the "Hellcat" mod to mine. I think I'm getting there LOL.

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight  6 років тому

      Thanks Jeff.. I have yet to make the hellcat mod to my Alice pack.. I forsee me doing it in the near future though.. Went you add the Molly two waste belt you'll find it distributes the weight much better than the LC2 belt the comes with the pack.. Well at least I did... Thank you so much for your comment and have a great evening..

    • @jeffrichards5106
      @jeffrichards5106 6 років тому

      Yeah, I find the Molle waist belt much more comfortable too and also the Molle shoulder straps . Now I just have to figure out where I'm going to put my tent. I added the sleep carrier system to the bottom of the pack which holds my sleeping bag. I have my inflating mattress inside and bottom of the main pack. Not sure whether to put my tent on the bottom of the pack? the sleep system bag is kind of in the way. Or, to put the tent on top of the pack under the main flap?? any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.
      Take care.

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight  6 років тому

      Hey Jeff what sleep carry system are you using?
      In the summer months I put my thermal rest on the top of the pack and my tent and fleece blanket on the bottom... In the Winter I attach my sleep carry system on the bottom... Then put my tent on top of it and my thermal rest on top..

    The venerable ALICE pack is one versatile pack and can modified in any number of ways to suit the person that's wearing. I did the wildcat mod on mine and am going to fix it so I can attach the molle sleep system carrier on the bottom of it. Some dog on this pack but I don't get why. Its stood the test of time. This is 40 year old technology and it still rocks. Great video, and you have given me some ideas. How did you install the extra snaps? Thanks!

    Thanks for the video and sorry if it’s been too long since the video came out but I have one question. There are metal D rings down at the bottom sides of the medium pack. I didn’t see you use them when attaching the shoulder straps or the side belt/strap to the frame. What are these used for?

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight  5 років тому

      Hi Sarah that is a good question.. The D rings at the bottom are for when you remove the frame...You can attach the shoulder straps and part of the waist belt to them... I'm glad you enjoyed the video...Yes it's been a while since I released it but I always try to answer every comment. Sometimes it just takes me awhile :-) have a great day...

      That's an excellent question. And I have an answer for you and fortunately there will be some sewing involved. What you want to do is head to Walmart go to the Sporting Goods department and head for the camping section and pick up some nylon straps. They're only a couple of dollars. Next you want to find either D-Rings or O-rings make sure they're medium to heavy duty. Usually you have to go to a hobby store for those. Are also a couple dollars I think they come in packs of 4.
      Now the fun part. You want to sew loops on where the shoulder straps would normally attached. Of course add your D rings or o-rings. Make sure you put a backing on the loop just for some extra reinforcements.. You want to use a zig-zag stitch. With heavy duty thread...
      I hope that answered your question if you have anymore please feel free to ask. As always thank you so much for your comment and have a great evening my friend.

    Can the large version of the Alice pack be used without the frame? Or only the medium size?
    Thanks

      You absolutely can but I don't recommend putting a lot of weight in a pack. It'll be rough on your back as your hiking. As always thank you so much for your comment and have a great evening

    I just found your channel and Sub'ed to it. I'm fixing to buy an Alice pack but not sure which one I want or need. I was going to get a Large Alice pack but now, I think I should get an Midsize or Medium one now. (I just had Open Heart Surgery back in June of this year) so I don't want to over do it, I want to be able to carry around 35 lbs. on my back. I want it for a "When the Crap Hits the Fan Bag". Any suggestions would be really great. Also, I Liked your video, except the "Squeaking" table I think it was. he-he. ;)

      I'm glad you enjoy the video. You can find the straps on Amazon. Unfortunately G+ won't let me post a link. Just search replacement straps for the Alice pack. You want to get the upgrade straps. Not the LC 2 or 4

    I've got a large alice pack that doesn't have the attachment rings behind the pad up top, is the large pack not intended to used frameless?

      please don't own a large frame ALICE pack. If you could do me a big favor and have the time take some pictures of it and upload it to my facebook page and I'll take a look at it. But it is odd that it doesn't have a attachment rings on the top of the pack.

    Should I buy an ALICE Pack with the straps and frame or without? I'm going to use it as a "survival pack" so I will be carrying it for extended amounts of time and with a good amount weight. What is your opinion on what I should do?

      Ḭ̷͌ ̵͈͊L̶̟̈i̷̠̔k̵̬͑ė̵̹ ̴͙͗T̵̟̊u̴̖̓r̵̆͜t̶̊͜l̶̙͝e̶̡͛s̷̢̆ that's a really good question. I would buy the ALICE pack with a frame especially if you're going to carry a heavy load. Definitely switch the straps and waist belt out go to the upgraded version...talk a little bit about weight how much are you expecting that carries. Recently I did a trip with my pack was loaded between 50 and 60 pounds I did a lot of modifikation to mine in order to carry that much weight. If you don't want to make a lot of modifications I would check into a Molly 2. ..they are rated to hold over a hundred pounds. Which I really don't think anybody is going to carry that much weight....I really hope this answers your question if you have any more feel free to ask.

      Bob808Knight . Ok thank you. I might have a few more questions later on but I will definitely go and research a Molly 2. But I am also wanting something that is pretty cheep, like under $70 and can carry bulk not just weight.

      BuckWheat you should definitely use the frame because it puts the weight on your legs and its lighter its not hard on your back and you can carry as much weight as your legs can hold

      @Bob808Knight  5 років тому

      Hi Richard... Honestly I do not know I have never tried.. I wash mine with the hose and some very light detergent... I'm thinking if you put it in a washer then the dryer there is chance you could damage the threads...

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight  4 роки тому

      Understandable.. There's always another option.. You can make a frame out of PVC pipe.. I have done that and I'm still working out the bugs but so far I like it.. As always thank you so much for your comment and have a great day my friend.
