You said your wife married a child. All I can say is, “Lucky Melissa!”. You still have the wonder and joy of life and it is an appealing characteristic - embrace it!
I couldn't agree more, most people seem so jaded and "cool", I prefer just real folks. People who can still have fun, and stop and view a beautiful sunset, or whatever.
I have a similar sewing box from my grandma. Love the blue kitchen clock as well. Melissa must be happy for your humor and jokes. Life is to short to be grumpy Alex.
My oldest daughter bought a similar sewing box full of sewing implements, along with a sewing machine for her sister at a yard sale about 10 years ago. I was organizing the sewing box a couple of years ago and found a sterling silver thimble along with all the things in there.
Just imagine the sound of that Sleighbell brought back memories of my childhood in Newfoundland before we joined Canada and that sound was a fairly frequent sound in the winter as the big horses pulled their sleds in and of the little community that I lived in at that time. I love the sound.
Having grown up in Wyoming, that "spring" weather is so familiar. The calendar says it's technically spring, even if an interstate highway is closed, again, due to the latest snowstorm. Springtime in the Rockies! Lol
Hey - that's my sewing machine! Gifted to me on my 16th birthday (very second hand) it is still working flawlessly. I echo your testimonial about the quality. I sew alot and this is still my main machine with absolutely perfect tension. I think it is likely older than you guessed - late 50s or early 60s with the knee control. The foot control came later.
This sewing machine is better, long lasting and will outlast other brands. It is engineered to out perform and can sew heavy materials for the home keep it well oiled. In general older machines can keep performing like your automobiles!
That toolbox is a traditional carpenter's box. Some home made, maybe some commercially made. it should sit upright on the long narrower edge so the top drawer box can slide out. usually 2 saws in the drop down lid, a few metal planes in the bottom and one or two drawers with small tools. Many were made by the carpenter as a sign of the quality of his work and were built to impress the customer. Others were just utilitarian boxes.
Hi Alex, I don't know if you knew about a hidden feature of the Westclock clock is the red dot that's below the #12. If you pull on the adjustment knob on the bottom of the clock it will reset that dot from red to white. This was a feature that if electricity was lost for moment , say overnight, the dot would turn to red and kind of alert the person that since the power went out, your clock was probably wrong, and needed to be rest. Pretty cool feature and probably needed a lot more back in the 50's or 60's.
I get the feeling that you've collected 'stuff' over such a long time, and researched so much of it, that you're now able to catalogue and describe just about every single thing you ever get! The 'Widecombe' Toby jugs connect with a song called 'Widecombe Fair' held in Devon, England. I sang it in school as a kid 60 years ago!
When I was younger we had 4 families in the neighborhood come up to our cabin. We had a set of walkie talkies and put one in a bush. The bush started talking to one of the younger kids. Pretty soon all of the little kids were having conversations with The Talking Bush over the next few days. Of course the adult with the other walkie talkie was within range so he could hear their questions.
Alex, for old thread…steam them. The thread will reconstitute and not break…good as new My parents had that green kitchen clock 1952. Prurchased when we moved to house in Dawson Creek
My wife still has one of those sewing kits. It's in better shape then the one you picked up. I don't think she would ever get rid of it, but I'm glad to have an idea of value.
Alex, I really appreciated when you give an estimate of the items value. It teaches us more about the current values and what will likely sell. I love the vintage kitchen wall clock, it would go great in my 50’s ranch! 😁 P.S. It great that you still have a little boys humor, it makes life fun!
lol, it's great that you can make work fun. it will never feel like a job when you can enjoy what you are doing so well. Thanks for having us along for the fun. lol, I think Melissa knows. she probably found the walkie talkie and just turned it off; so you can keep playing, while she can do what she wants, uninterrupted 😁
Since smoking has become so unpopular, the thingie can be used in a hall for putting the contents of your bag there, like car keys, gloves or something small like that.
Even though I am female, I love old tools. They are so neat with all their rusty goodness and whatever they were designed to do, they typically do it better than any other tool of the same kind that you would buy today.
That Elna machine looks nice. My daily driver is a butt-ugly brown/taupe steel-case Singer. The green clock looked 50s to me too. I finally got a battery clock for my kitchen after one power outage too many, but had an old electric for eons that kept right on keeping on.
Hi from New Zealand. Re the clock at 19.00, my parents had one the same as that but red, and 230volt 50Hz. They got it as a wedding present in April 1938 ! It has a red dot that comes down if the power goes off, and this is automatically reset when you adjust the time. Cheers Baden.
Hey Alex, great haul. I was told that the mugs with only a face are called Character mugs (it says that on the bottom), and the ones with a full body are called Toby mugs. Don't know if it makes a difference in Canada, but in the UK and the US, the Toby mugs sell for more $
That sewing box is also great as an artist's box. Also, I was thrilled to see that toolbox. My dad made one out of wood, which I plan on repurposing as a coffee table/writing desk.
I love the tool box - my dad had one that I think belonged to his grandfather. He always referred to it as a carpenters toolbox. It blows my mind when I think of the beautiful construction work they did in the days before power tools. We are renovating our house and it’s hard enough work with a well stocked shed of corded and cordless tools that cut, drill, sand and everything in between.
I have an Elsa Sewing machine like yours from the 1950s that was my grandmothers. I still runs smoothly and has a great stitch. If you have one that uses cams to make decorative stitches, you have a treasure.
I think everything you got is wonderful, each item in it's own unique way. They're like you Alex unique in your own way. That's why we love you Alex, you're real, very giving, so charitable, very talented, knowledgeable in so many things, very honest & so funny. I love it when someone can be funny without having to get dirty. I guess that's why I still love the 'I Love Lucy' show. It's clean, silly, funny, even hilarious at times. I still watch it & laugh like crazy even after seeing it umpteen times.
I wonder how many of us were thinking of Josh when you showed us the Archie watch?💜 Great little haul Alex😊 We have a sewing box like that from my father-in-law who was the stage carpenter at the Oldham Coliseum Theatre in the UK which has sadly, recently closed ☹ We have some really unusual items around the garden that he made😊
Yes I was thinking of Josh’s Archie collection. Even named his ginger cat Archie. I was surprised to see an Elna sewing machine and hear it has a good reputation. I got one about 20 years ago but knew nothing about it. Thanks
We have a wall clock just like this one, but in red. Our kitchen is an original, 1928, Craftsman kitchen, but we put the 1950s clock in it anyway, above the sink. Looks great.
The Toby jug with 'To Widecombe' on the handle identifies the character as Old Uncle Tom Cobly. He was the main protagonist in traditional Devonian folk song 'Widecombe Fair'. Was made (encouraged!) to sing it many times whilst attending primary school in the Devon village that I grew up in.
That Elna sewing machine is pretty cool didn't see the cams that go with it though. (those are the round plastic bobbins that allow you to make different stitches) I actually have one of those sewing boxes that open up and I love it too. Happy digging and have a great day
Hey Alex, some nice items, but what really caught my eye is the 'bucket list' collection of classic cars and a Tesla!! I like your choices, they look great and you deserve it.
How fun to find the toy cars of actual cars you have in your garage. Also, I remember a video a couple of months back where Melissa was hiding around the corner to scare the kids when they came through the door . . . Looks like pranks are part of the Archbold way of life.
It's amazing that Elna sewing machine I have the exact one and it was my mother's. For reference I am 68 almost almost 69 years old. The machine still works I use it
The Elna is a free-arm sewing machine. That means the wrap-around 'deck' comes off and you can sew around pants/jeans hems and sleeves. I am tempted.....
Alex, really nice haul. I especially like the sewing box.I remember those from the Sears or Montgomery Ward catalogs. Always caught my eye because of the organization in one spot idea. Cheers
OMG! My mother-in-law gave me a bunch of “face mugs”, I always thought they were king of creepy. Now I know what they are, I’m going to have to dig them out of storage and revisit my collection of Toby Jugs 🤣
I bought a replica clock just like that at Target and put it in my retro kitchen. It ran on batteries and lasted awhile until it fell off the wall and broke the plastic cover. Fun seeing the treasures.
The Toby jugs are Meissen as signified by the blue crossed swords mark on the bottom. There are big collectors of Meissen, however they're likely to be more valuable in England.
Ashtrays are great for artist! Josh’s workshop buddy, Clint, created a beautiful Cigar / drink lounge for a client. He might be interested! We had a clock just like that in our pink and turquoise kitchen! Fran
The sewing box was always in thrift stores ten years ago for as little as 3-5 dollars. I gave them to my husband for his fossil and crystal collection. The watches and compass are interesting as well.

Toby jug - Uncle Tom Cobblety (widecombe on the handle). He is from a folk song about a group of farmers in Widecombe, Devon UK "Tom Pearce, Tom Pearce, lend me your grey mare". My husband was raised in the village.

Oh wow! Just last a couple weeks ago I bought a small version of that sewing basket - thrifted it for $5! I love it. It keeps things nicely contained and portable.
The turquoise Westclock wall clock appears to be running the correct speed. These clocks depended upon the frequency of the electric power supply. Canada was not always 60Hz. I was wondering if the advertised beverage may have come in a rectangular bottle which might fit that small ashtray inside a presentation box.
