    QUICK QUESTION: I have a pair of Klipsch RP-8000F II speakers and I need a (new) amplifier. Currently I am just using my old(er) Sony Home Theater Amplifier (STR-DH820) and these speakers are Very Bright with that amp. I don’t mind it for movies but for 2 channel listening my setup is just to bright/hot/has a digital sheen/whatever you want to label it. Speakers are amazing but this is just the wrong amp for them for music.
    Would this FM300A (in your opinion) work with these speakers and (hopefully) tone down the brightness when compared to my Sony AVR?
    I see Amazon has the FM300A listed as in stock (I am in Bend Oregon, USA) an am willing to order this if it’ll take care of my 2 channel listening issues.
    Thanks for any help you can provide - I Love Your Channel!!👏🤓

      I don´t see the FM300A on Amazon..?
      I only know it being sold on eBay, but You must be careful that it is the correct one, because there are cheaper versions, that don´t have the NOS transistors and the Hifi-Elna caps.
      I would not think to compare it to a Sony, since on my German channel some said it is much better then their Accuphase.😊
      This is a bare power amplifier, and it doesnt have too much stuff in it to ruin the sound 😉

    Could you explaine how to use fuse in this amp? What audio sorce do you use?(compatibile cd model?) Which speakers could you recommend?

    • @iam_mad
      @iam_mad  9 місяців тому

      There is a fuse in the back plate of the Amp, I don´t know the Ampere rating right now.
      You can plaug any source via RCA jacks and level the volume with the two potentiometers at the front, but there is no remote control, since this power stage is from the 80ies and is all about sound without additions.
      It sounds great with any CD player, I used several DACs from Cambridge Audio to the famous Philips DAC960, but You could also use any preamp.
      I have combined it with the tube preamp MP-701 kk2, which gives You a tube like organic sound and more refined sound stage.
      Speakerwise I heard only positive response from most of known brands like Dali, Kef, Elac, etc.
      It also shines with fullrange speakers like the Sibelius or the Petit.

  • @gino3286

    Hi thank you for the very interesting review I have been struck by one your statement in particular concerning the Canton sound
    I have always thought that a speaker keeps its own sound signature even with different amplifiers I was clearly wrong
    How do the Canton sound with the tube amp? Thanks again and kind regards Gino

    • @iam_mad
      @iam_mad  Рік тому +2

      Thank You for Your comment! 😊
      The sound of a speaker is always influenced by the amp, but this is much more depending on the efficiency of the speaker and the type of the amp.
      The tube Amp can show its great sound as more as higher is the efficiency of a speaker.
      In the case of the Canton, it is a low-efficiency speaker, so it will "swallow" the tube sound. (this is greatly simplified)
      The solid state amp can show its influence on the low-eff Canton much better, because it has simply the power to do so. (and the high attenuation)
      The high - eff - speakers show the sound of the Amp much clearer, and there tube amps can also shine.
      If You watch my build of the Petit (Speaker) then You see a High Efficiency speaker, that has even no cross over. 😉

      @gino3286 Рік тому

      @@iam_mad hi thank you so much for your kind and very valuable advice
      Actually I am watching the sound check video of the Petit and they seem to sound phenomenal indeed
      I will watch the other videos on their design and sincere compliments for your excellent work
      I had in mind a 2 ways speaker with a big woofer and a wide band driver used from let's say 200Hz up
      but it's a medium term project because i am moving to another home now
      Speaking of amps i am more a solid state guy for convenience
      Kindest regards gino

      We have contact with the fab, but it takes time.
      Just go for the FM300A as long as its possible, the sound is fantastic!
      I found out, that the MP-701mK2 works grat with it in maximum gain setting. Google "Musical Paradise" and compare it to Yours!
      I am right now working on the pairing with the "Musical Paradise" wich sounds absolutely fantastic!
      It is good to have a zero-negative feedback preamp, and keep the volume potis on the FM300A on 50%, then the tube preamp injects the good tomality into the FM300a (wich amplifies VERY precise)

    I got inspired by your video and considering buying this amp. Do you have any thoughts on the above FM300A vs clone of DartZeel NHB-108 D5 Pro? They both looks/sound very promising, but would appreciate some help in making the right choice :)

    • @iam_mad
      @iam_mad  3 місяці тому +3

      The FM is the mor musical amp, has more near "tube" feeling, best choice for efficient speakers, but will less strongly drive very difficult speakers with less then 4 Ohms and loose bass drivers that need control.
      Dartzheel is like a power plant, can drive anything low efficient (what I don´t like) and can still make a very good sound, but not such a nice mid tone and bass like the FM.
      Either You get a really good speaker with the FM or You have the big 3 way or 4 way speaker (difficult to drive) and low impedance / efficiency, then go for Dartzheel.

      There are actually the two options of the very originals, and that would be the "FM155" half sized with ext power and the "FM255" full sized preamps, that are accordingly cloned.
      But since I would like to go for an option with tubes I try now the Musical Paradise MP 701 MK2 and maybe also the OldChen C1 preamp.
      I already tried one Nobsound Tube Preamp, that sounds quite good, but thats not available anymore.
      The Musical Paradise looks now the most promising, because it is regarded highly and it can adapt to several impedances.

    Hi, did you have any opportunity to try the FM711 mk2 clone?

    • @iam_mad
      @iam_mad  5 місяців тому

      No, I am very happy with the sound of the FM300A, I don´t see the need for the 701-
      The point in the 300A is, the low feedback circuit design, that makes the sound so good.
      Adding circuits will mostly ruin the sound.
      But the nowadays speakers are all "slim bass colummn design" and have many small bass drivers with big excursion, they need these type of amplification with strong feedback circuits for control, which ruins the natural sound.
      I generally go for the speakers with real sound, 2 way monitor or fullrange driver.
      I will recieve the Dartzeel clone because of the demand, but I dont expect the big thing of it.

      The higher You drive the bias, the more heat You get, because You go towards ClassA
