I just started teaching myself to crochet from a grid tonight and you just fixed every single yarn carrying problem I was having. Thank you! My work looks so much cleaner now. This video was so well put-together. Definitely saving it for future reference!
I am finally starting to work more complicated patterns and was becoming so overwhelmed with the bobbing technique. This is so helpful thank you so much! Plus this video is so well put together and so easy to follow/understand!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I’ve tried looking at others and I’d get thoroughly confused. However, I understood your video on how to do color changes for both the right and wrong side of the work along with doing color changes mid-row. Excellent video 😊
I was working on a piece that required multiple colour changes several times a row and I was panicking about how I was going to manage it, so this video was incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for taking the time to make it and share it with us!
Excellent video, so much important information and perfectly explained🥰! I have saved this video for reference because as a beginner and I’m having a rough time hiding my yarn when using multiple colors. Thanks for sharing the knowledge🙏🏻
Thank you. I'm hoping this helps me with the problems I am having. I also find that the yarn itself becomes a tangled mess but maybe following this process more closely will help with that. Thank you for clear explanations, and very good and close camera angles.
Thanks so much for your tips! I have been making a pillow with thick yarn and could easily see my carry thru yarn changes. I've been looking all over for an easy way to fix this. Thanks again!! Great tutorial!
Amazing tips, thank you so much! Do you know how I could hide the tread of different color when working in yarn over slip stitch? Right side goes just fine, but I struggle with the wrong side, the carrying on color still shows on the right side...
This video is extremely helpful!!!! I however, would love to see how you would tackle multiple color changes (2 stitches one color, then next 2 stitches a different color, then 1 stitch a third color, etc....)🫣🤔 I've been working on a graphgan with 6 different colors and have had to use the "cut & tie" method.😡 I'm a third of the way done and I put it away......it's making me crazy!!!!🙄🤯 I'd love help or some pointers!!!!!👍 Maybe that's the way this one has to be done.....IDK.🤷♀️😢
So in the first part when you're working with the white + green, after you finish the green in that row do you just let it hang there until you get to that section when you're going back the other way? (Hope this makes sense!!)
Hello!!! First of all thank you, this was very informative! But I had a question about pieces that dont have a wrong side (as in both sides will always be seen like a blanket). How can hide the yarn carry for those sorts of projects?
You will either have to choose to not carry your yarn if it is a high contrast or just make one side of the blanket the 'wrong side'. Which you do it up to you.
Hi! Thank you for this tutorial. When working on the wrong side, I am using the technique that you showed, but now I can just see my yarn carried through on both sides. Do you have any advice?
Sometimes if there is too much contrast between the colors you may always see the yarn. Also the size of hook you use can affect this. A smaller hook has makes tighter stitches and hides the carried yarn better.
I have a question, but idk how to word it to where it makes sense. I had a stroke and my brain just isnt the same as it did but Im gonna try. I havent been able to croxhet ever since my stoke but I ordered special hooks and am trying to start again. Im making a scarf for my son that switches from red to black blocks like a checkers board. Lets say that I just completed the 2nd half of the DC and Im dropping the red but I need to carry it for my next 4DC, does it matter if I pull the red to the back or the front? Thats the only way I can think to properly describe what I mean 😢
Great info. The problem I always have when carrying yard is that the different colors get tangled. The area from the work to the skein just turns into a knotted mess. Any suggestions?
Watch how you turn your work. Naturally, we will turn our work the same way at the end of the row and that will keep twisting the yarn, but if you put a stitch marker on one side of your work and make sure you turn your work so that the stitch marker passes over the top each time. You will end up twisting your work after one row then untwisting your work after the next. I hope that made sense. It really helps me.
I have a written pattern that is linked in the video and in the description box, but I do not have a video tutorial because the entire project is just double crochet with color changes. If I made a video it would be 2 hours of me just reading off the pattern and letting you know when to change your colors.
I think it would be better to demonstrate the last method by using a white yarn and a bright colour. It is very difficult to see what you are doing with the black wool. Otherwise your video is very good and easy to understand. Thank you.
That is good advise. I was just working on this specific pattern and decided to pull out my camera and make a video because I often get asked about carrying your yarn.
This tutorial is only for how to carry the yarn. This pattern does not have a video tutorial but there is a written pattern: www.windingroadcrochet.com/crochet-table-runner-free-pattern/
I am sorry to hear that. Make sure the video sound is turned up. There is a control on the video screen. (There is a video volume control and I know sometimes I turn it down and forget about it.)

Just started a chessboard style pattern for a Xmas present and this has helped massively with the colours showing! Thank you ❤

Good info demonstrated clearly !! Makes these type of projects a lot more interesting (doable) for me. 💕🧶💕
Glad it was helpful! Carrying your yarn is easy but there are a few slightly different ways to do it.
Thank you for this amazing and clear tutorial! You explain everything very nicely and this will save me so much sewing! 🙌🏻

Sorrry, forgot to add it's a back loop only yost!
Sadly no. Since it only goes through one loop, it is hard to hide a different color.
@@WindingRoadCrochet ah damn :/ thanks!

At that point I might carry 1-2 of the most used colors but the other will need to be cut and tie.
So in the first part when you're working with the white + green, after you finish the green in that row do you just let it hang there until you get to that section when you're going back the other way? (Hope this makes sense!!)
Yes it makes sense and yes that is what you do.
Thank you!!

It shouldn't matter which side you pull it to but I would make sure that you consistently pull it to the same side.
Great info. The problem I always have when carrying yard is that the different colors get tangled. The area from the work to the skein just turns into a knotted mess. Any suggestions?

What hook is that? It's such a beautiful peach!
A furls odyssey hook. Someone recently told that they don’t make the odyssey line any more.
Do you have a tutorial for this project? Its beautiful

How do you count the stitch for each block when changing colours. THANK YOU. GOD BLESS
They are still just normal stitches so you can count them as you normally would and follow the pattern to know when to change colors.
Just curious, do these methods work fro half double crochet stitches too?
Yes they do
@@WindingRoadCrochet Ok thank you
How do you carry yarn when doing the slip stitch ?
It isn't easy. I would avoid it if possible.
I think it would be better to demonstrate the last method by using a white yarn and a bright colour. It is very difficult to see what you are doing with the black wool. Otherwise your video is very good and easy to understand. Thank you.

I would cut the string a tie a knot before I realized your supposed to carry it 😂
Hehe. yeah the idea is to have the green yarn end where you need it later in the pattern.
i cannot hear you :'(
