    So for those that dont know, only sheer drop offs or cliffs, very often if the tide is going out they can have a current dropping down their face just like an underwater waterfall. You do NOT try to swim upward against them as that is typically impossible due to the current, nor do you inflate your BCD. You simply turn and swim out and away from the wall. The downward currents are typically not that large and stick very close to the wall face. Swimming away from the wall will immediately get you out of the current. Lastly, do not over inflate your BCD because if you do, then as soon as you exit the downward current you will immediately have an uncontrolled runaway ascent toward the surface.

    No real danger here, just inexperience, but well done for staying calm, best thing you can do on any dive.

    She was in distress, She purged the BCD instead of inflating it, I don't know her experience, but when I see a diver on her situation, I tend to grab him/her to a safe spot, if she's new, that's ok, is understandable, but what Stress and Rescue Teach us, is that Stress compounds and sometimes evolves to Panic. Be safe and enjoy.

      @@2canucksthatlovetotravel Very good, if she was being monitored it's good to get used to depth and buyoancy, someone only grows if it is chalenged, diving always on the same place with the same rotine can be safe but as the other side to give a false sense of security in skills.

      Don’t attempt drift diving without getting a specialization in drift diving AFTER you get open water certified

      depends how comfortable you are in the water, if you have been swimming/playing water sports all your life, the camera is not going to affect you much as everything else is already second nature. I would suggest you bring along the camera and if you feel overwhelmed then just focus on the dive instead. it doesn't hurt to bring along

      Ends up I didn't bring GoPro because the instructor doesn't allow us to do that. But it's a correct decision because as a newbie I was busy equalizing and removing water from the mask, and also swim by holding my arms to the front, so my hands won't be free to hold a camera 😂

    she did panicked. she tried to purge and empty the BCD instead of putting air in to float up.

      if shed be panicking she definitely would inflate bcd too, idk what kind of panic it should be to make her deflate bcd xdd

    I mean, she exhaled and dumped a lot of air and started kicking, then finally realized to inflate her BCD. Not exactly the smoothest reaction but still well done.

    Was he in the prone position for all the shots, or did he stand up for the final five? That would also affect the sound.

    • @2canucksthatlovetotravel
      @2canucksthatlovetotravel  Місяць тому

      She was vertical, not prone when she started to get pulled deeper. Once she adjusted her BCD and got back to prone position it allowed her to get closer to the reef and back to the dive master and myself. There was a strong current here for sure

      Honestly I don't think a discover scuba dive as it is called is the best way to experience diving. You won't be trained to dive independently. It only takes 3 days to get certified. Do the theory online at home and then all you have left is a half day pool session and 4 open water dives. You don't need to finish everything in one stretch. You could do dives 3 and 4 several weeks later if you want. And if time really is an issue for you you could also cram the practical parts into 2 days: pool session in the morning, dive 1 in the afternoon and then 3 dives on the second day. Keep an eye on the quality of your course though. Read reviews of dive schools before entering a course. Don't choose the cheapest place as they will certainly have made too many compromises with their equipment. Ask if you can see the equipment before signing up and check if it looks properly maintained.
      Penida is an amazing place for diving. World class! I did hundreds of dives around Penida alone. I worked as an instructor from Bali. Hence my username here on YT. 😉
      Beware though. Penida has challenging conditions. I strongly recommend getting certified in Bali first. Bali has plenty of dive sites suitable for beginners. Penida can be very tricky. Especially Crystal Bay can change from calm and quiet to pretty wild in an instant. Lembongan is awesome for diving too but has even stronger currents that can flip entirely in a matter of minutes.
      Once you are comfortable under water go with an experienced guide as they can avoid trouble and show the best places.
      Keep in mind. Most diving accidents happen at the surface. The most important rule for diving is to never hold your breath. But since people do that automatically anyway the most important rule to apply consciously is to always inflate your bcd at the surface immediately after surfacing and to do that before anything else. Always!
      Happy diving!
