I'm the original owner of my 1967 330. My parents gave it to me when I graduated from the 8th grade around 1970. I got it fully restored a few years ago and now, I gig with it all the time for jazz and blues. Great presentation here Bro. Thank you!
I have a 67 and it has been my #1 for 35 years. Blues, hard rock, and even some metal. When played through my mesa boogie dc5 the thing just screams (loudly).
Lovely. I have the Casino. It's my favourite couch guitar - loud enough to be acoustic but not so loud it wakes the house. Also sounds great plugged in like..... well, this.
Thanks Richard!! I’m with you on that! Many times I’ve come home late at night when it’s too loud for an acoustic and the ES-330/Casino is just perfect!
@@anthonyrussoband often I’ll grab a guitar to figure out a brief musical idea: I’ll plug in for playing a show, I’ll plug in to get loud enough to play with drumming friends, etc. But when chilling on the couch, I don’t want any “steps” in between me and whatever musical idea. Plus, I adore the added dimension of a vibrating top when plugged in.
Exactly the video I was looking for. I live the Beatles and always wanted one of those wood colored hallow bodies they had. Sounds great man. Keep up the good tunes !
As the owner of a '69 my answer is "it depends." Its format, fully hollow archtop, P-90's, means the sound is kind of fixed. That said, if that is the sound you want nothing else is like it.
I know it’s almost too difficult of a choice. My 330 is Vintage and my 335 is a reissue, if I had a vintage 335 it would make it a lot harder I’m sure. 😎
Gorgeous guitar you have there. Different kinds of music call for different kinds of guitars!. 330s are so comfortable and become one with your body ... no doubt.
Thank you for the informative video. Good stuff ! I may get one or the Casino. I love the extra crispness and the lighter weight. My 335, does feel quite heavy after an hour of standing, playing and singing.
I have one of each, a 1967 335 I bought when I was in high school in 1970 and a 1965 330 I bought about 10 years ago. The 335 was my first decent guitar and I played it through the 70's in very loud rock bands (think walls of amplifiers). Today I mostly play at home, record a bit, and overall I'd have to say the 330 gets played all the time and the 335 is in the case most of the time. It seems to me that the 335 is much better when played loud, the 330 much better at low volume jazzy kinds of stuff. The 330 is more articulate and to my ears overall just a better sounding instrument, the 335 by comparison sounds darker more muffled. One thing that kind of surprised me is that my 330 has much stronger pickups, they really drive the amp (65 Deluxe RI) much more than the 335. If you plug the 335 in after having used the 330 you need to turn the amp up to get near the same volume. If I had to let one go it would be the 335, which is very unlikely, as I've owned it now for over 50 years...we're both kind of attached to one another.
I played a few reissue with chunky necks. This one is good sized, I wouldn’t say chunky. My goldtop and 335 are chunky and my tele is a huge baseball bat. The wider nut helps.
Your question is apples and oranges, I've used both for 50 years and each has it's application. Both are excellent in that capacity, just different colors on a pallet!
Unequivocally, it is better from a body shape, scale, and tone perspective ala the P-90’s which is the Chef’s kiss. It’s the “Tele” of the Hollow Bodies. Not having a center block does kinda hurt it if you don’t know what your doing but there are ways around that depending on what wiring, cables and amps/effects your going to use. It’s a damn cool guitar. Wish I owned one😆
Nice guitar, initially thought it was a v nice reissue, yet visually it appeared with something a little extra. That's clean; can you make it sound like Grant Green? Those guitars are great a bit gritty, they lean into it. I guess GG would sound great whilst wonderfully himself on anything, , I liked those tones out of a 330. Think that's what I was looking for, yet of course it was something else I found. I don't know about better than a 335 but congrats on the guitar. Happy to hear more with that classic instrument.
I agree Anthony, love my '59 spec 330(mickey mouse ears). The P90 neck pup is killer as also with my R6 LP, a more crisp open vibrant sound compared to a humbucker, with the bridge pup a tele on steroids as they say.
How about the combination with 330 and Marshall Amp? I also love Gibson very much and i use the combination of Gibson and Marshall. It was a good review and I will subscribe to this channel.
Thanks Hogeon!! I do have a old JCM900 half stack, maybe I’ll do a video with that combo in the future. I did recently see a video of Dan Hawkins from The Darkness playing a 1987x Plexi with a Casino, it was awesome! Amazing tone!
My Casino (essentially the same) sounds good into everything. It has the cut and front and chime but with depth. I have mine into my 60s Vox AC30, 70s JMP stack, Genz Benz Black Pearl and tweed Deluxe clone
Es330, is not a better guitar, it’s a totally different guitar than a 335, both are nice guitars, I prefer the 330 Casino, hollow body guitars because they are old school sounding, very light, great rhythm guitar, you have to keep the 330 under control it’s like a wild horse, but once you get a handle on it,you will always want one in your arsenal! Having said that es 335, is also a fantastic guitar!
*sorry for my English. Thank you very much indeed, Sir. For me : always the under rated ES-330 > the famous ES-335, because of their R & B mojo & '60s pychedelic British Pop vibe with some "Jazz personality" :)
I have a 330 and a 355, both from the 1960s. If you're playing at low volume at home like the bloozeman in the video, the ES-330 is fun to play and sounds great. It can be a little tricky to play on larger stages at loud volume, but it works well once you get the hang of it. The ES-355 is the better all-around instrument because it's more versatile, less prone to feedback (unless you want it to), and just feels better to play (subjective). The lower cost of the ES-330 makes it ideal for people playing at home who don't want to spend a lot of money. I think I paid $450 for mine about 12 years ago.
Long time I heared that my es330 echo's and should have the 335 or 345 and on this Item I hear complete upside stories.LOL.I mostly play it in the night, for the neightbours.I have the Martin acoustic ,but the 330 plays much more easier ,somehow I do something wrong with that martin 21.
I've a 330-'69 and play it every day/night (no refret) without emplyfier ( neightbours) and can say the tones insite are fanfuckingtastic.togeter with my fender telecaster 69 and LP2000 I have the ultimate sounds My bosendorger upright piano, and my instruments gave great satisfaction and relaxation, everyday,it keeps me sober too .
No same body dimensions, just fully hollow. The neck seems like it’s smaller because it meets body at the 15th fret. Making the guitar feel more compact and more difficult to reach higher frets. Later models of the es330 (I think around ‘68) changed the neck to be exactly like the es335 joining the body at the 18th fret. Giving more fret access, however arguably changing what makes the es330 the great guitar that it is.
@@anthonyrussoband I’d go for an es 330 provided I already have à chambered Les Paul , not that far from a 335 . My choice wouldn’t be for a Beatles Casino sound , but more for a Grant Green jazzy tone or even a Robben Ford style (when using à Casino ) . Finally a very versatile guitar

John Lennon sanded the finish off of his on the theory that it would let the guitar 'breathe'... as I recall it was Donovan who gave this dumb advice.
Thats the best ES 330 tone Ive heard on UA-cam ❤
Thanks! I appreciate that!

Oh you have to listen to Barrie Cadogan wish demoing this. It’s his number one guitar !

isn’t there a huge difference with the casino? the casino will sound garbo by comparison
Does it have a block under the bridge?
Nope just fully hollow with a standard ABR1 bridge.

Nice demo. What kind of strings do you use?
Thanks! I use Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Nickel Wound 10-46 the lime green pack.
@@anthonyrussoband Nice. For your style, I wonder how pure nickel would sound. They impart a slightly more vintage tone and feel.
I used Gibson Vintage Reissue’s Pure Nickel’s for a long time, I liked them a lot. But Slinky’s are like half the price. 😎

Yes.

Yeah pretty much, not sure why they put that neck pickup on there 😎
I agree. Fuck the neck pickups on Gibson guitars 75% of the time
That’s a proper sunburst , Gibson don’t get it right now..
