Gotta love that they shoved a 70s vibe soundtrack in a 90s game

Imagine what the Follin brothers would have done if Dolby Atmos existed back then

Still don't know how they pulled this off on the SNES. Yes, the chip is Almighty, but damn this music in this game was God-Tier.

ChaoticNeutralHoly22 yeah am wondering the same thing too.
Yes the snes soundchip was advanced & revolutionary in 1991 for a videogame console, but the samples were only 4bits, a guassian & lowpass filter has to blur out those static noises, resulting in muffled sound,
nintendo’s sample pack kit contains samples wich are sounding muffled, harsch and noisy, that sample pack is used by most game devs, resulting in games sounding pretty much the same.
But spiderman & x men, plok, rock & roll racing, unitally etc,,, are sounding really really amezing with rock & roll guitars, unlike any other snes game.

Dr. Z aha no wonder it just sounds so damn good , i wish that every game dev recorded their own samples instead because those samples from the snes sample pack just sounded muffled and noisy.

According to Nintendo Power, developer Software Creations created their own ARDI sound driver that was more flexible than the stock SPC chip. It also helped that Tim Follin is a genius with lots of experience on the Commodore sound chip. He knew how to get a LOT out of a little.

@@johneygd This isn't technically exact, the samples weren't interpolated right away, this was applied at the time of the output, but we can de-interpolate it and even change it for something better, which is exactly what happens with this video, as it uses Sinc interpolation, the greatest form of interpolation (it preserves the original waveform). The samples could also be 16-bit, even 32-bit but I am not certain about the latter, their sample rate can actually be much greater than you would expect, as the only limit resides in the 64kb limit of audio ram for each sound bank, I made a song with samples of 48000Hz, even though the actual max sample rate of the real console is 32000Hz. The samples are stored in .brr format which compresses each 16 bytes of audio into 9 bytes.
      I've even been able to import a sound of 1 536 000Hz

The sound chip also was created in 1989

Tim Follin - for those who don't know , he's the composer and he's an utter genius.
How the heck did he get a SNES to produce this sound.

ViableNutria7972 yeah, this really sounds like real music being put on a CD, not like those typicall muffled jingle sounds you often hear in regular snes games, compare the music from this game to f zero or castlevania dracula x, it sounds waaay better.

@@daniellap.stewart6839Not gonna lie. Some of the funkiest sounding bass lines I've ever heard in my life came from a Japanese fusion super group known as CASIOPEA. It's also the same group that inspired just about every composer for Japanese music you heard in video games. Truly a legendary group.
