    I built a very similar pen based off your pen. I used plank board on the inside of the post and hog panel inside of the plank boards. Really like your videos.i also put metal on the sides and it covered the same area as my roof.

    As a fellow hog farmer, I appreciate your design. I'm going to incorporate some of your ideas in my birthing pens.
    Recently moving to the Southeast, I realize I have to change my concepts I had in CA. I will still keep them in soil pen areas, but shelters and birthing pens must be on concrete.

    Nice work, I will design something similar in the future although I question the use of a concrete floor. Do you let them out to mud bath and forage or do you keep them penned up for the most part? I would prefer to have a dirt floor although I know that makes clean up 50% harder.

    I think if we keep/nailed the fence inside it will become more lasting even though the space will become a little less for them..

      Howdy! The climate here is mild for most of the year. We live in the southern part of the U.S. so Our winters are not very harsh. But you can certainly raise them in colder climates too, but will need to offer them some ort of shelter with a bedding like straw for example. Good luck on your farm. Wish you great success.

    • @dontfit6380
      @dontfit6380 4 роки тому

      Absolutely not this isn’t acceptable there’s no place for them to get out of the weather. I’ve worked at massive hog confinement’s and the pigs are much better taken care of. There’s too many pigs for the small area with no entertainment pigs are the smartest domesticated animal they are smarter then a 3 year old imagine putting four 3 year olds in that little pen with nothing to do. Miserable!

    • @buckrogers7642

      You could add plywood around the three sides under where the roof is and add bedding and they should be fine

      I assume he either cleans it daily or weekly and uses it for compost or just disposes it some how. Something I do is use it for compost. Make sure to throw in some of your native dirt and untreated sawdust/ wood chips over everything after you put it in and that cuts the smell to basically nothing, plus gives you some excellent mulch to grow quality crops over the planting season.

    • @LionsLamb79
      @LionsLamb79 4 роки тому +3

      by definition it is "organic" he's not feeding them any GMO feed and not giving them hormones or other injections to fatten them up. sure it's not ideal "dirty pig" conditions but it's still way better than industrial pig farming, at least they're outside. not everyone has the space or ability to pasture raise pigs but some people would say " then you shouldn't raise pigs" to that person I say, lot's of people have children because they want them but fail to provide stellar or even ideal conditions for the child to grow up. just saying. those pigs are loved and provided for, maybe a little cramped but he obviously cares enough for them to hose their shit out everyday, I've heard of parents who let their babies sit in shitty diapers till they get rash and infections.

      Pigs exist because they were domesticated as a source of meat. If you don't raise them as meat, they don't have a reason to exist. If you release them into the wild, they will destroy farm land. So....if you don't want to eat pigs, don't. But if you do, then you are part of the reason why pigs exist. If it weren't for people eating pork, pigs would cease to exist.
