I'm glad you put the year of your Toyota Prius in the video title. Some of the how-to videos didn't bother including that info and I had no idea what year of car they were doing.
Best video I have seen. Dealers want to charge hundreds of dollars for this repair. It was the easiest by far. Great job. Anyone that gives negative comments needs to prove there's an easier way or just shut up. Only problem was the sound went out but it still work from the video.
Thanks for the video. Using your method I was able to change both lightbulbs in about 30 minutes. I didn't have to blindly seat the bulb into the reflector and clip it either. Last time I didn't pull the housings out and banged up my hand pretty good and ended up with a bulb that wasn't seated correctly.
In the past I had the dealer do this for $300, I just did it for $50 you can get the lights on Amazon (don't buy at parts store they will charge you double!) . I followed this and it was easy and any one can do it!!. One thing about the plastic screws the idea is to be able to pull up the inside screw about a quarter inch then you can pull out the inserts. I found just having a ratchet with short 10mm. was best most of the screws don't have room to get your screw gun in. These tools would be lest than $20 at your hardware store so your still saving yourself over $200 if you didn't have tools. Yes its a ridiculous procedure for changing out the light but that's Toyotas deal, quit wining do the repair yourself and reward yourself with a new toy or great dinner(s). Thank your Easleyelectric
given the difficulty removing the back of light assembly to access the bulb, the removal of the assembly may be required, this video is an excellent overview of that, a nice 'in between' process v. complete removal of the front bumper that will be done at a dealer
Your video is excellent ! change it in 30 mins thank you so much ! Save me a trip to dealer and saved me the dealer $'s and yes the spring is a pain in the butt ! But you did a great job explaining how to remove the bulb and replacing it with that dam stupid spring !
Any man wirh man hands needs tgis video.... I tried every which way I could to do this and in the end had I not looked at the quicky vids id of been done a lot sooner.. so besides having 9ne screw left and hating those plastic "screw" snap things id recommend this video is the only way and possibly the best way a big (or normal man hand) hand can do this... thank you for the real way video of changing these God Foresaken light bulbs!!!!!!!!!
How to replace the high-intensity-discharge ballast? I’m thinking doing this will keep the headlights shining 100% rather than the driver’s or the passenger’s or both going dark at the worst possible times.
I just tried this, but the 10mm bolts in the wheel housing are covered by a plastic shroud you need to take off. So I stopped this method and just reached around the back of the headlight. It was much easier and faster. First take off the plastic thing like in this video. Then remove one more plastic clip fastener holding the air scoop. Lift it out. Reach behind the light and using the two knobs on the rubber seal, rotate it counterclockwise until it is loose. You will have to work it back and forth a bit to pull it off the back of the bulb. Then there is a wire clip along the top of the bulb. Press and unhook. It will swing out of the way. Pull the bulb out. Being careful not to touch the surface of the new bulb, fit it in with the flat side down. Replace the wire clip. Put the rubber boot back on. Put the plug on. Put the air scoop back. Put the front plastic shield back. Done!
Rocketcandy omg that wire clip.. I changed the passenger side bulb without any problems but on the driver side it seems someone put the wire clips in wrong so I am struggling to take them off.. contemplating taking the bumper off >.>
You thinks this is bad. I just saw a video where a dude first had to remove his lug nuts, take the wheel off to be able to get a front panel off... and only then could he get access to bulb. Apparently he was going off of specific instructions for a particular model and year. With some model/years, you don't have to do all this insane stuff. Tip... with some of these, it might be worth it to call around and ask for places that would have experience knowing how to do this. (depending on how much it cost).
That's a Prius 2 design flaw. I've done it both ways, and taking the bumper off or just loosening it, is VASTLY easier than trying to do it in a VERY cramped space where you can't see what you're doing. I discovered installing an LED light, which is a little bulkier than the standard halogens, is IMPOSSIBLE without loosening the bumper.
Hey... did anyone else use light bulb prong grease... it's for increasing the conductivity or something like that. Maybe its not even really necessary.
Note to Toyota: The process above is not good enough. Take the lesson from older GM cars where it was easy to replace a headlamp and the part was just $12.
I'm going to look for an easier way or pay where I get my oil changed. They only charge $24. Hell if I'm going to rip apart my whole front end. I would definitley end up with extra bolts afterwards. Also, there is no sound after about 30 seconds. Makes it very uncomfortable to watch since you think your computer is broken.

Thank you for the video, this worked for my travel ministry. BLESSINGS in the name of JESUS!!

venom131369 nobody needs to do shit responding to a fucking YT vid...
Thank you!!! All other videos on this subject should be removed. This is the best by far. Really appreciate!!

How do you change a 2007 timing setup on a beamer

Thank you! I dont have much car experience but I was able to change my headlights with your help!
Thank you so much for posting this! all fix it yourself videos for the prius are appreciated 💗 😊

Good video, please try turning off the camera when you’re turning the screws 😊
Thanks. Going to try it. Helpful video.
Thanks brother. Going to the change the whole headlight.
Thank you for this
We talking here about bulb replacement not engine overhaul ???? This is the last way you want to replace a bulb. Are you kidding me?

I just did this as well and it worked much better. The hardest part is getting the new bulb lined up and then getting the wire clip back on.

Dang! Good luck!
Listen to this guys comment! I just changed mine waaaay faster. Thanks a bunch man! Headlight is shining again
If your hands are on the larger size this method is your best bet if you want to save time and frustration and avoid hurting your hands
Thanks for the vid, but I'm not going to search or buy these tools. Over to the garage I go ! LoL
Which part number is on bulb? I would like to buy before take apart. Thank you!
Perfecto mundo thank you excelente help.
Is it the driver side set up different?
hi guys, i have the same type of bulbs, what is the name of it in order to look for to do a LED upgrade instead of those ones....any already did?
unbelievable design flaw/design decision
This is like removing the engine to change a wiper blade.

Thanks so much. Elmer
why didn't you just take the whole car apart....damm
thanks to you it's done.
is this H4 housing ?
Thanks for posting. Good option to know.

What happened to the sound, bud? Also, you need image stabilization in the worst way!
Note to Toyota: The process above is not good enough. Take the lesson from older GM cars where it was easy to replace a headlamp and the part was just $12.
You've got to be kidding. There must be a better way to do it than to practically disassemble the front end of the car. I'll keep searching.
the audio quit at about 1:00 but it looks like this should work well.
great video but shame on Prius for this horrible design
I did the fast way. Really not that hard, I figured I would try and if I had to I could take the bumper off. It was not that hard really.
Llf is this a joke. How is this easier??
This design is just an epic fail!! Sorry Toyota!
Not how mines set up thanks for the waste of time
