sell or not is your decision lol but for what its worth i feel you have other vehicles far more worthy of your time and money perhaps it would have more value to someone else. damn im worn out after all that hard pondering time to hit the bubble machine and have a soothing tea 8P
I remember the cold start of that one from years back. That would be a great restoration project for a diehard Mopar fan. The most important thing is saving it.
Wouldn't really help that much. Dean must have almost as many cars as Scott. Apart from the Edzel, I'm not sure how many are runners but, if Scott's going to let the Newport go, it would be better going to someone who's actually going to restore it or, at least, daily-drive it.
I always believed in keeping the best and passing-on the rest. We only have so many heart beats in our lives to allocate for each of our projects. May each project we dedicate our time to, be the best ones of the bunch. Time is our enemy ! Those fantastic finned cars, are such art-on-wheels, especially the '59 and '60 Furys. I personally own two 1960 Suburban Wagons. Love em . Scott, your talents and your legacy will be in each of those beautiful cars that you finish . Let the younger folk learn the ropes on those old Newports and Valiants. That's what they are for. True men like you show the younger generation how with some money, lots of practice, patience, persistence, can develop into a lot of talent. You are the true opposite of a throw-away society. People like you, who preserve history, are true heroes. I enjoy every minute of your show. Paul
I kinda lean toward sell if you can find a living home. My concern is that even if it takes a half hour of your time once per month, that’s a half hour you could be working on your other cool projects. I sold a 65 Corvette that I had for 11 or 12 years. When I got in the house I found my 12 year old son in the floor crying his eyes out. Had no idea. One of the worst days of my 69 years.
I’ve had maybe 15 classic cars. I’ve sold them all except the two I have now. I always figured I had my fun and it was somebody else’s turn. I was pretty careful what I spent on them and always came close to break even so my hobby didn’t kill my finances!
I've always thought that Chrysler starters sounded like jumping across a river on rocks on one foot in squeaky shoes, but seriously, if you don't use the car, you should find it a good home where it wont be destroyed. It is a nice surviving example of that car.
Actually, they were thought as sounding like humingbirds, especially the later high torque electronic ignition versions as the spun over faster than this one does. My late father had a '75 Grand Fury 4 door unmarked police interceptor car with the 360 in it and it had electronic ignition. All that thanks to the gear reduction design.
I’d hate to see you sell that Newport Scott. It’s for selfish reasons though. I had one back in the day and miss it and love I it when yours makes it into a video. Like I said, purely selfish reasons, and I trust your judgement because I know you love all of your cars and will do the right thing. 👍x💯
My Australian built early '70s Charger with a 245ci 6cyl Hemi made the exact same noise at startup. We also had Hi Po 265ci l6 Hemi that went like a scalded cat. If you're not using the Newport, sell it to someone who'll love it while it's still an easy fix. cheers.
In my humble opinion your '72 Newport is one of the sportiest, if not the sportiest car in your collection. I see it needs rocker and lower rear quarter panel work but it's a very deserving car. I think the 1972 Model Year was the year that best embodied the Chrysler fuselage styling. Whatever your decision is, please don't let this beauty fall in the hands of someone who will just pull its power-plant for transplant into a B-Body or some other incredibly stupid car.
I remember driving the old 70's era land yachts. I had an old Charger (76) and a Cordoba (78) and man they were just tanks. So ridiculously heavy and underpowered. If someone can afford to keep gas in that beast and not go bankrupt then sure. Definitely not a derby car obviously.
My Dad was a diehard MOPAR man for many years. He would’ve LOVED that Newport! And yes, I’m reeeeaal familiar with that famous Chrysler startup sound. ☺️ I could be a block away and could tell one of those was starting up. Hard choice…..I’m sure though there’s someone out there that would give this a very good home. 👍🏾
If you are asking then you have a plan to either move it on or fix it up. That's up to you and Frankers. She looked right at home in the co-pilot's seat but she is that way in every car. When the question was asked "Where's the wingnut?" I had a bunch of snappy come-backs for that line and not all of them about Dean. ;) Seeing Dean and Details Dave in the closing scene was realll trippy, man. Cheers, folks.
AWW Scott-NO SELL! Great winter car and also just a plain great CHRYSLER. Maybe one of the last. of that Auto line. Yes, she needs a little work-so what?remember
I can tell that you care about the car (20 years plus it is obvious). Personally I would sell it. The car is kind of on that precipice of "needs some TLC but a good driver" and "rotting away to scrap". You have so many amazing and interesting cars in your fleet, with more to come over the years, I guess I would be happier to see it in a dedicated "forever" home where it can get regularly driven and appreciated (that is NOT to say you do not appreciate it, not at all). I just hate seeing usable cars sit. Still, she is your barge, and I am sure we all will support whichever way you go with it!
All I’m gonna say is that if you have no use for it, sell it. Better to find someone that will drive and enjoy it instead of it rotting away. Just my opinion. It’s yours so do whatever you feel is right.
Nudgerss agreed! I had one that was A red 2 door with the black top. This car dates me very well since the one I had was built the same month I was born. Fun times and comfy cruising.
Best part is that I know that it was owned by a great person and his family. Especially when it has been 20 years! As always I knew that it was just gonna fire like that Packard!

Probably sell it...hopefully to a fellow UA-camr in Alberta who's really into Mopar. I doubt anyone would ever do a frame-off restoration of this car, but a more modest resto could still liven up the Newport and keep it out on the roads for years to come.
@@gator2813 Well, I guess that would truly rule out a frame-off restoration 😛 anyhow, if the rust isn't too bad under the car (mighty big IF for a car in Alberta Canada that's 50 years old!) then a modest restoration could be worthwhile.
I don't know, compared to some of the other daily drivers you have, that one looks, uh, almost reasonable....to keep. man that starter sound brings back so many memories...Dad had a Dart, Mom had a Sport Suburban, oldest brother had a 340 Dart...(which oddly enough I saw the other day)
You have too many cars to save. It’s probably a good idea to pick and choose which ones to LetGo, so that someone else who can save just one will have the opportunity to do so.
Love the short, as to keep/sell....idk. Like others have said, depends on where you're at mentally with it. So 2 questions- 1) IF you kept it, can you keep it out of the elements to stop further deterioration? 2) Is it something you'd TRULY miss and/or couldn't replace? All I got - glad to see Frankers soaking up better weather.
I had a girlfriend that owned 1972 Chrysler Newport. It was a huge road yacht but super comfortable and if you pushed the pedal to the floor, you sank into the back of the seat. It was fast, powerful and beautiful. We in our reckless youth once decided to drive fast when we were at Fort Royal Virginia. We left at 7:45AM drove at over 90MPH all the way to Virginia beach, Virginia and made the trip in a little more than 4 hours. The car ran like a top and never overheated or hiccupped once. I stopped only once to refuel at a do it yourself gas pump and was back on the road in less than 4 minutes. When we met up with our friends in Virginia Beach, they thought we were lying when we told them we'd left just before 8:00AM until we called our other friends back in Fort Royal who'd confirmed we'd left at a little before 8AM (they too were astounded at our accomplishment). To this day, I never knew why we never were intercepted by the law? Keep or sell the Chrysler but fix it, don't derby it. It's a car that will always be appreciated.
Time to move it along.. with so many cool rides in the fleet I think this should be someone's "one and only" project... Love the mid week content! Cheers from Nashville!
It still amazes me, the change from '67 to '70 and from '70 to '72 on Newports, Challengers...heck most Chrysler products during those times. So much change in the body styles. Yet, I like them all for different reasons. I wish I had never sold our '67, but it went on to someone that had time and money to restore it.
Agree, but as far as the Newports go, I prefer the 68 concave bodies over the 67's (the overall styling was cleaner). I'll take a 71 Fury III over some of the others (had the 68, a pillared based 4 door custom, and my parents had the 71 Fury, I think with the 318 Poly in it).
It is THE winter beater of all time, but seems like you rarely leave the compound so another Mopar could fit the bill ( the 72 Fury?? if its not too far gone). Maybe auction it off the CWM subscribers? Yes do a T-shirt before its gone, that would look really cool. Roll up a fat ass joint, share with Dean in the car for a final hot box and see what comes to mind....
Unexpected midweek bonus from CWM. I love the clean, straight lines of those early '70s cars like that Newport. As a kid I was amazed by the size of models like that: Cadillacs and Continentals and couldn't comprehend how they could navigate the streets. I have a couple of 'collection' cars and I know that they don't get used enough. I appreciate it's a bit of a wrench, but it would be noble for it to go to a new owner who will cherish, maintain and use it.
Brings back memories of my brother's 71 300. It had the 440 and white interior. We went everywhere in it. It deserves a new caretaker so you can concentrate on your other projects
KEEP IT !!! - This is your 70's muscle car - even though it's a Crew Cab edition - Plus in the episode " How many cars are in the yard" You mention it's been in family since new - Keep up the good work Scott/Frankers & Agents
I have an unreasonable amount of affection for this car, and it's properly appreciated where it is now. That said, I know what it would fetch in my neck of the woods, and if the market is similar there that would be a not-insignificant replenishment for the parts car fund. Ah, but C-Bodies are so cool, and you gotta keep it since Myles has his...
Keep the wheels & trade it to Dean for a case of beer & a few pizzas on condition he can't flip it for 3 years. You've long since gotten any coin invested in reliable usage. You've got two sweet Furys about to go on the road this year. At best it's now Plan C for winter beater status.
I like seeing it in the videos (my late mother-in-law had a 72 New Yorker 4 door, same color, so it reminds me of that car & time). But with all of the projects you have going, I could understand if you decide to let this one go to someone who will treat it right. The paint looks like you polish it several times per year, but I think you don't, so kudos to that paint job.
Actually surprised that paint looks as good as it does, but when he aimed the camera out the front window, you can tell the paint had lost some of its luster.
Couldn't decide on whether or not to sell .But it is great seeing CWM along side Dean. Waiting for the next installment of probobly the finest Canadian content since Don Messer ''s Jubilee!
Twenty years she is like family but If you could find some one who would fix her up drive her and love her got to love her love you all Scott Dean and sweet Frankers 💟💟💟💟
Scott, if it was me, I would keep it and give it a "low level refreshing". Not like the 60 Fury but good enough to keep it looking good, quiet, and safe to drive. It is a nice car still and you'd never get another like it for what you'd sell it for. It was a good "winter beater" when the Volvo didn't work out. Also 20 years of ownership is hard to let go of. If you thing you have too many cars (you never will! ;)!) what is one more. If you can find someone who would take care of it, it might be worth it. Hard to believe a 72 Newport is now half a century ago. 50 year old cars I still think of is being from the 1940s and 50s. Guess I am getting old. Your call! No matter what happens to the Newport, I'll be a Cold War Motors fan! :)! Appreciate your show! From Maine USA!
I think it is time to move it , you have had long time , as you said, better to see someone drive it instead of just sitting cause you own it . My two cents Scott
Time to let the Chrysler find a new home. Those boats in running condition are getting to hard to find. Your new old Chevy and the Model T are keepers. And it appears those are where your heart is now.
I wish I lived closer. I'd love to have one of these. I think it would pair well with my 76 New yorker brougham 2 door 440. C-body mopars are so underrated.
I would would love to have a great car like that, family members always wanted a great luxury car and I have a good ambitious place to store it inside and work on it.
I had a Newport I picked up in the late 70’s as a daily driver to work car. Ran it about half a year and repair costs mounted so I sold it off for $300.
I was in high school in '72 and our bus stop was a block from the State Police barracks. They ran Plymouths in that body style. Fury's I think. Word was that the hot rod dude from the Texaco station did their motors. They'd light up them studded snow grips on the reg'lar.
Scott, Dean, Francine and one of my favorite MoPars...automatic like! I would give that car a good home for another 20 years, and would enjoy every minute of it. That's if you decide to sell...and if I can find enough change in the couch cushions to cover the trip to and from Canada.😁 That's in addition to the work I have to undergo for my own engine.
I suppose it depends if it fits the channel ( and yours, obviously) profile. It’s quite a bit newer than most of the inventory, and I suppose if you sold that to fund any number of current projects , it would be in the spirit of things.
Ahh, the good old Highland Park Hummingbird. 🙂 Definitely can tell it's a '70s Chrysler product just by the sound it make when it starts up. Love that sound.
She’s an old classic all right, but it’s time to let her go to a new home. Investing a bunch more money in her means you will need to keep her forever and it doesn’t seem like your forever car. ✌🏻
I have too many projects and too little time left. I don't want to be the guy who's estate sale is picked clean. Use the coin to make the stuff that's really important shine. Your call. Stay well, it's good to see you coming back.
I’ve been feeling sorry for the Newport over this winter! Just sitting there as you’ve driven past in the New Truck. I’d put it in the collection, but maybe it is a bit too new for that. I love its exterior styling. But you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do I guess… Still loving the channel!!
i had a few newports, a 67 a 69 and a 70 i really liked. bought all 3 for less than $100 each over the years i owned them. the 67 and 69 were both 2 doors. the 70 was a 4 door with a 383 4 barrel it was very fast.
First of the vid I said NO don't sell. but listening to you I eased off that. Thought what a great hwy cruiser for a Mopar guy to enjoy traveling in. Be picky bout who it goes to.
If I could I would snap it up in a heartbeat but as usual circumstances say no but I'm sure if you decide to sell it will be to a good home that will keep it safe from the derby guys
Back in 1972 when I was 15 my drivers training class used a 1972 Plymouth Fury which shared the same C body as the Newport. Back then I think all the drivers training cars for Peoria Public Schools were supplied by Parkway Chrysler / Plymouth and River Oaks Dodge dealerships.
Growing up, our family had a '72 New Yorker and my best friend's father had a '73 Plymouth Wagon. Unfortunately, my dad sold our before I got my license and then we moved away, but my buddy at least got to enjoy "the Beast" after he got his license.
Hey Scott, I'd say only sell it if you can get that guy you talked about that's exporting those big cars to Europe. That will guarantee her safety. Too much risk of a derby fate if she stays here! My .02C!
Cool Car... It looks like it would still be a Great Winter Beater... But if your over it.. Time to pedal it .. Two schools of thought .. If you just want it GONE.. Sell it as is.. But if you want to get a few more dollars for it..??? ( patch up the exhaust and put stock wheels back on it ).. Just my opinion.. Good luck Scott...
Dude........ That's a great car...... Look at how quickly it started and after it warmed up drove as good as it did when you parked it, after y'all fixed the transmission. I remember that video. Awesome classic car, just a year older than me. Lol, hahahaha, I'm a '73 model. 😂🤣😂

I feel like after owning it for all those years that it should continue to be a part of the CWM inventory!! Cheers, hi Frankers!!!
Real nostalgia trip best car my family ever owned 72 new yorker brougham dad passed it on to me I miss him and the car
I, too, had a '72 New Yorker Brougham.. from 1977 through 1982.. LOVED that car!!
Time to move it along.. with so many cool rides in the fleet I think this should be someone's "one and only" project... Love the mid week content! Cheers from Nashville!
All the years I’ve watched you on UA-cam I don’t think I ever saw or ever heard you say you would sell one of your cars. Keep it.
I always liked seeing that thing on your lawn when I drive by, it's just a nice respectable boat!
I could see that cruising the endless nights here in Finland, could be a beautiful neckbreaker every summer.
Weight reduction not withstanding, at least his 4 door is a pillerless hardtop, which as 4 doors go, is I think a bit more desirable.
Brings back memories of my brother's 71 300. It had the 440 and white interior. We went everywhere in it. It deserves a new caretaker so you can concentrate on your other projects
You gotta love Frankers and the sound of that Chrysler starter!
I agree! I love the sound of that starter!
Sure, give her a new home. Someone who will appreciate her charms. Can't keep 'em all forever.
Dean needs that Newport, you can hear it in his voice that he loves it, you're a Plymouth and Model T man these days Scott
Time to pass it on to someone who would appreciate having a cool ride to Cruise Night
20 years of ownership - keep it - great resto project and a nice car to look at and drive !! You will miss it if you sell it Scott
Couldn't decide on whether or not to sell .But it is great seeing CWM
along side Dean.
Waiting for the next installment of
probobly the finest Canadian
content since Don Messer ''s
Jubilee!
Twenty years she is like family but If you could find some one who would fix her up drive her and love her got to love her love you all Scott Dean and sweet Frankers 💟💟💟💟
That’s cool ride, but still needs a bunch of love. It would great to see someone bring it back her glory.
Beautiful car but doesn't ever feel like your hearts into her. Move it on to a good home and use the money to do something you love.
Keep it. It is worth little more than scrap value. Hard truth.
First things first, you need to ask Francine what she thinks! After all she kind of runs the show doesn't she LOL
Ahh, the good old Highland Park Hummingbird. 🙂 Definitely can tell it's a '70s Chrysler product just by the sound it make when it starts up. Love that sound.
Oh man, love that sound too! Couldn’t agree more!
She’s an old classic all right, but it’s time to let her go to a new home. Investing a bunch more money in her means you will need to keep her forever and it doesn’t seem like your forever car. ✌🏻
Cool machine. Love those chryslers of that vintage. My grandmother had a 69 new Yorker. 440/4bbl car. So cool.
I have too many projects and too little time left. I don't want to be the guy who's estate sale is picked clean.
Use the coin to make the stuff that's really important shine. Your call. Stay well, it's good to see you coming back.
We had one back in the day it was a Newport Custom, with the highback bucket style front bench seat. Awesome driving car.
Hey!! a mid-week CWM treat!!!!!
Beautiful car, they sure don't make them like that anymore!!!! One of my favorites!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been feeling sorry for the Newport over this winter! Just sitting there as you’ve driven past in the New Truck. I’d put it in the collection, but maybe it is a bit too new for that. I love its exterior styling. But you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do I guess…
Still loving the channel!!
i had a few newports, a 67 a 69 and a 70 i really liked. bought all 3 for less than $100 each over the years i owned them. the 67 and 69 were both 2 doors. the 70 was a 4 door with a 383 4 barrel it was very fast.
First of the vid I said NO don't sell. but listening to you I eased off that. Thought what a great hwy cruiser for a Mopar guy to enjoy traveling in. Be picky bout who it goes to.
It’s Thursday lol…i love it
Man your going to regret it.. Don't!!
I say sell. You and Dean are better suited in anything from 1926 to 1965. A sweet ride but a little to modern. Lol.
Rode in and drove so many of these great old gals ! Love it !
One of the more attractive early 70's 4 Door HT. Someone would love the Fuselage Chrysler....and hey, it's a "ROYAL"!
