That is a good question. The average person would probably not have a hygrometer in their case and would be unaware of the precise humidity level inside the case. To be clear, I do not need to use a case humidifier as I keep all my guitars in a humidity controlled room. However, I also have read humidity levels in other rooms of my home and seen that it can get lower than 20% during extreme cold snaps. Even if you do not have a hygrometer, using a humidifier properly (either DIY or purchased) is your best bet against excessive drying out of your guitar's woods. It is difficult to get the internal humidity level in a guitar case to a level too high during dry times of the year. So the use of a humidifier is as a protectant against cracking and other guitar damage. You can purchase hygrometers if you like to keep in your case. Or better yet, keep one room of your house at the proper humidity level year round and keep a hygrometer in there to be sure.👍
I’m new to “quality” guitar ownership. I’ve just ordered a couple of cheap hygrometers. I suppose I’ll put one in the room that the guitar lives in, and the other inside the padded gig bag with the guitar. See what the results are and go from there. Your idea, if needed, seems quick and simple, thanks.
A padded gig bag will NOT hold humidity coming from your humidifier. It does work inside a decently sealed hardshell case. You might consider getting either a good hardshell case for your guitar or keep the guitar in a room that has a decent humidifier that can keep the room at 45%+ relative humidity during the dry months of the year (usually winter).
@@TheGuitarDoctor-zu3gs , as it turns out, the padded gig bag is holding humidity just fine over the last 48 hours. 35% in the room, and 49% in the case, with 2 soap dishes and one toothbrush holder one placed in the sound hole.

What about dampen the top side of the inside of the guitar case' the fur lining section of the lid inside the case. Would that work evenly and fast for the guitar? Not enough to cause it to come unglued.
It would not be a good idea to make the lining of the guitar case wet as it would hold moisture against the finish of the guitar and could quickly ruin the guitar finish.
