Hai! I made this yesterday and wasn't sure if I should post it. I really want my channel to be as transparent as possible so I guess here we are! Mostly posting this for selfish reasons because I want to break my habits in 2019 of constantly prioritising work. I also think I may be a little inconsistent over the next couple of weeks and wanted to offer an explanation. Thank you for being patient!

*You’re defo an empath... and overworked. Take a break. Relax. At the end of the day, your mental and physical health are more important than everyone and everything. You will get there. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re amazing.. your art devine . Remember that.*

Sending a lot of love your way. Sounds like a mental/emotional/spiritual detox is in order. I think as artists we have to be careful not to have our sense of being tied up in our work, our production, our craft, our art. A detox/vacation can help but a new way of thinking can be implemented so that the cycle doesn't just reboot once we come back to work. I dunno didn't mean to get preachy, just sharing in your pain.

I can totally relate, I felt completely exhausted in december. working for yourself is the most rewarding thing and it's enjoyable so it's so easy to do it constantly and forget the other aspects of life. make sure you rest up and you'll feel a million times better for it

I could feel you. My expectation of my life was a bit too high and always anxious about the future that I sometimes overwork. and suddenly feel like I cannot see the point of all of these, I mean, most of artists not doing public arts but just personal, temporary works...! I think I should just try to live in the moment. I am really comcerned about you...! just started feeling as if you're my actual friend. what a weird internet world! very nice that you have this youtube channel to share your emotions. I will always be here!

Oh sweetheart, you do need a break! I feel for you. Your art is amazing, you seem like an amazing person and I love watching your videos. Can you manage to just take a weekend to yourself, that would help a little I am sure? You are important, take care of you, your clients can wait for a bit, social media can wait for a bit too. Best wishes hon, I am sending you a virtual hug xxxx

I really really feel your pain. Doing everything independently is so so hard BUT you’re making amazing headway.
Scheduling some time off is gonna be really important for both of us. The upside is that EVERYTHING stops for at least 2 days next week. Usually I hate that... but Jim jams and lay ins are needed every now and again.
You’re so much more accomplished than you give yourself credit for but a bit of down time is really needed.
Please give yourself Christmas off and just jot down ideas on how you think you’re gonna accomplish this time off. It doesn’t have to be 4 weeks continually but it could be 2 days here, 4 days there...

You have done SO MUCH this year and you definitely should be proud of all your accomplishments! BUT! Girl! Be good to yourself! Take a break, take time for yourself and your relationships, get away from the work. Burn out is real. And if you don't take care of yourself and do some self-care and figure out what you can do to relax you, all the work won't be worth the possible impact on your health and mental well-being. I LOVE your work! I love seeing your posts and videos, but I would rather never see another bit of content from you and know you're off living life and being happy, than seeing you burn out and hurting. I can't speak for everyone, but know that this fan and fellow artist will be here when you get back if you decide to leave and chill for a while.

Girl, time to raise your rates! Try upping your commissions and keep doing it until you reach a balance... you’ll end up working less and making more. Then use some of that money to outsource some things- I was at a point where I was working and exhausted, and I hired a maid 2x month, got a grocery delivery service, etc. I realized I was trying to do too much and there were tasks I could get others to do. The point is it’s hard sometimes to realize when we are in control and that there are better ways to manage our work-lives. You got this!

    • @BrookeGlaser
      @BrookeGlaser 5 років тому +1

AMEN! This is EXACTLY what I was going to say. Time to raise your rates until the workload is manageable. I'm a chronic overworker, but setting strict work hours helps me a lot. If you know you have to stop working at 6pm, you just get done what you can get done. Your a human being, not a machine. (Oh and cutting out social media in the first two hours and last hour of my day has also made a big difference to my sanity).

Girl I so can relate ! Its hard for sure , I was so busy and so much anxiety for work and living on my own with no help moments when my depression let me just sleep all day on my days off but anxiety always in my ear to make sure bills are paid and rent , stressed over no money left for myself and worried about food for the week. The world we live is busy ! and it flys by so fast, i whud feel a cloud over my head going into work like a thunderstorm, i use to be so vibrant and positive and so motivating to my crew at work , but i let stress anxiety and depression take over , its been a month since i last seen my doctor she said its running down my body and it made me Ill ! so i had to change my life a little and shift a little bit and im getting much better eating healthier i feel like i can focus again i smile more than ever because it makes u feel good :D but i can keep talking for ever lol....
Just remember to just breathe and work on your body mind and soul girl! and whatever is the most important to you right now we will always be here and excited to see what you have in store for us patience is key to success ! :) i wish you the best in the next chapter of your life (:
Dont forget to create memories and spend time with the folks you love as well ! I had my Grandma :) best blessing in the world for me. Shes my angel in the sky . Remember to smile more add a dash of lipstick on look in the mirror and blow yourself a kiss to remind yourself how much you LOVE YOURSELF just because ;) xoxo,
A BIG FAN OF YOURS, Fayj The Dope Truth

Girl, take the time off you need. I've burned out art wise recently as well because I was trying to do all of the things (create solid pieces for my portfolio, create a UA-cam channel, work a full-time job, manage my relationships/marriage). For many years I have placed my art progression above my friendships and having fun. But it finally caught up with me last month.. I was crying frequently and just tired of feeling tired all of the time. I was missing my friends and missing time for me (whether crafting, watching Netflix, exercise, etc). I was so burned out by, like you, taking on a lot that my body and mind kind of crapped out and said NO. I couldn't push through anymore without sacrificing something more important. I have to say, I'm exercising balance much more and purposefully setting out more time for my husband, friendships, family and fun. You can have all of the art success you dream of by working your ass off, but I think that without your meaningful relationships in life it's a bit meaningless. Take the time off you need, your fans will still be there. Sending you lots of love from NYC xoxx

By the way, one thing that has really helped me is compartmentalizing my time. So allotting X hours or X days for art making time and X hrs/X days for non art (other hobbies, relationships, anything other than you're art business). I personally have gotten sick of multitasking both within the same day, and I prefer to completely switch off art mode on particular days. That way is can REALLY decompress mentally and feel restored when I enter art days again.

It's hard but you're doing about as good as anybody could in that situation. Taking time off really is hard. I'm 31 and I have not had a month off simce my mid teens as well. Lifes a bitch, that's for sure.

Please follow your friend's advice and take a month off. Seriously. I will be here and I'd bet all your subscribers will too. We don't just love your art and personality, we CARE about you. Your exhaustion is real and it's trying to tell you something. Listen carefully. Besides, this will give us time to revisit old videos of yours. :)

Please know that you're not alone. Most young people our age (I'm 33) will be burnt out in our race to financial stability. My friends who are in academic & government jobs are having it pretty bad....that they actually fainted, miscarriaged, divorced bcoz too much work. It's bad, but that's the price you pay to survive. But we artists have more freedom than they.
Take a break for a week, don't touch any pencil/brush.... & just sleep & watch TV with your bf all day. Don't feel guilty about commission & stuffs, coz you'll be doing them better after a nice break :-) A month seemed too long for businesses like us. But a week, 3 day, 1 day, depending on how much time you have seemed more possible. To me, 1 day of just sleeping & watching tv will refresh me after every travelling...which is my most exhausting activity...with the kids and meeting people (introvert yeah)
    Hope that helps
