    Dr Goldhamer spitting out straight FACTS ! The most common excuse I hear is " my husband/family" I lost 60 pounds and my ex husband never said I looked nice even ONCE, got angry when I kept on plan during a cruise ( super easy , they will make you anything you ask for) I tried on some old jeans from 10 years ago, he watched and said "you will never get those on"...when I easily zipped them up, he actually had to leave the room...p.s. about a year later I dropped 225 pounds of ugly fat in one day at the courthouse.

      HA HA. Took me a minute to figure out how you dropped fat off at the courthouse. HEE-LARIOUS! OMG. Anyhow - as I was going to say . . . . Dr. Goldhammer doesn't pussyfoot around. Wow! But hey - he sure hit the nail on the head. My husband is all of that. He finds way to sabotage me. I find ways around him though. I definitely don't want to drop him off at the courthouse (yet, LOL). Oh man - that was a gem of a post. Love it.

      @@socaldreamer3394 I am so sorry for your loss. We hope that people in our lives want to support our efforts to get healthy and join us. I am sorry your husband did not. Mine situation was different , mine felt anger and even rage that I went from a size 20 to an 8. He was actually shaming me for refusing to eat his take out food. I heard from a friend of a friend that my exs mother said he is now " unrecognizable" from his weight gain. We have to have good boundaries even with families regarding our food habits

      Please make sure you are getting proper nutrition; all the people you just mentioned are dogmatists who will never, ever recommend anything outside of their belief system, regardless of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Science moves on, and it's better to be right than consistent, and people like this will remain consistent until the bitter, diabetic end.

    When I start to feel good, I get confident. When I get confident, I think I can eat xyz. When I eat xyz, cravings are triggered and things go downhill. Then the cycle is repeated. The statement that when the pain goes away, the motivation goes away is spot on!

I was off and on eating a terrible diet until about 3 years ago. One year on McDougall and lost 50 pounds. Now doing Pritikin diet and feel great.

    Dr. Goldhamer is dead serious about consistency in a health-promoting diet. People are not completely on board. Maybe not afraid enough? Or not motivated enough to be successful? Sometimes a change of friendships helps get the necessary support needed. I think deep down many people are not prepared for the doldrums of daily living. Keeping the focus is key.

    I really love his focus on the truth. There is no doubt people have a valid reason why they can’t do it but the truth is once you understand what’s really keeping you from doing it is the emotional problems and that one can do what one’s want despite of the valid problems, then the issues become how to change the way one’s think. That’s powerful to understand and that’s what matters. Thanks chef AJ for having him on the show - he’s quite a personality that doesn’t believe telling people what they want to hear but the actual truth.

    Dr Goldhammer is blessed that he doesn't suffer from an addiction. If it was as simple as just not giving in to addictive cravings, there would be no obesity, alcoholism, or drug addiction, nor any need for treatment for those. Perhaps a little empathy and understanding on his part for those who are suffering from an addiction would be more helpful than his demeaning approach.

    • @peter5.056
      @peter5.056 2 роки тому +12

      I don't believe he's demeaning the struggle, as he said, "It's HARD!" And his book/lectures on WHY people get addicted to food, clearly delineates the best way out of those addictions.
      You might think he's demeaning, but the way I see it, he's the bitter pill food adducts need; his direct and unabashed message is - "yes, you're addicted. But what are YOU going to do about it?" I have a profound respect for his direct and and COMPLETELY unambiguous delivery.

    Thank you chef AJ. Thanks to you i learn to cook w/ no oil other than steaming, boiling & roasting. I totally agree w/ dr Goldhammer that pain is a very effective motivator. I had my tongue removed due to cancer & i was recommended by my personal trainer to eat 80:10:10 whole food plant based. When i struggled to keep my weight he told me to eat more sugary fruit and lay off the oil. It did help. Whenever i fell off the wagon, the excruciating pain kept me honest to get right back on that oil & minimum fat wagon.

No willpower involved! I suppose your standard American would feel the same way about a salad made of poison ivy and poisonous caterpillars; they wouldn't need ANY willpower to not eat it. That's how I view the crinkly bags of toxic crap, as poison which will cause me immediate pain.

    It's so weird. When I was young (early 20s) I ate very little to keep my weight down to near model weight. Things like 1/2 piece of toast and 1/4 cup of orange juice for breakfast, a cup of tomato soup and a 1.5-oz. Hershey bar for lunch, drinking coffee with coffeemate and sugar during the day (1-2 cups), unlimited saccharin-sweetened sodas (which I now cannot stand to this day, over four decades later) and often skipped dinner. Since I had three jobs I got really wound up and would often end the day with a shot of tequila with a beer chaser. If I did have dinner, it was very, very little to the point I cannot really remember eating dinner at all except on rare dinner dates. I did that for a year and a half, and it wasn't hard. What I cannot understand is: HOW did I do that? Why can't I do something like that today only eating and drinking healthful foods and beverages? I am terribly overweight and I did lose over 20 lbs. in a few months on the SOS-free diet, but once the holidays hit I have not gotten back to eating that way. Back in -- when was it? maybe 1975-76 -- it was not hard to eat so little. I realize I was on a very unhealthy diet, but at the time I felt fine. I really need to go back to SOS-free. I guess if I just keep dusting myself off and getting back on track every time I blow it, it will eventually become second nature. I HOPE...!!!

      No the idea is to,eat whole intact grains like brown rice, millet, quinoa, etc. the more you finely grind and process a grain, the less healthy it is and the more irresistible it becomes to our tastebuds.
