  • Today was our FIRST SPRING STORM!
Which included more flooding in the barn due to a rain sensor that I've been fighting with since this new roof was installed...
But it was a productive day, despite the roadblocks.
Jack helped me fix my WIFI so my lambing cameras would work better, I fixed a cable on the sidewall curtain, and finally weighed my first group of market lambs.

Sometimes it helps to think of the positives. You did a great job at lambing over December. And you deserve credit for that. Everything else has been out of your hands. Those Lambs look great.

OK, your training Billy to jump on you from behind and climb on you which will only get more aggressive. When you see that coming, curb his behavior soon. It's not about keeping him away but respecting you and your space. He just needs to understand your safety rules.
You can have an override put on the curtain to ether rise or lower as needed. That may be something Jack can look at for you. Good luck with the market.

Larry, nature trained Billy to mount like that, not Sandy. If he stays intact he will indeed get more persistent, hence Sandy's comment on having to watch out. Don't think one can curb that behavior much.

A suggestion for Kinsey... not sure how much it will help but, teach her to sit and wait for a release word when you open the barn door. Then you can start applying the sit and release to other things (like the handling system).

It is sad that we have this virus going around and it's most likely going to effect the market. This will sound horrible but if I were you I would have to suck it up and keep moving forward. Things always get better. When this stuff happens to me I always tell myself WHEN THE STORM CLOUDS HOVER, REMEBER THE SUN SHINES ABOVE HER! This and prayer gets me through. OK starting at 6:01, watch that ewe behind you. I think she wants your attention! No demand, more like a toddler tapping gently on a leg of a parent deep in conversation. Then she stops and just stares at you.
OK on another matter, please stop stressing yourself out. So long as there are people, they will need food - you have that covered. Whether the price will be what you are used to - no one knows - so again why cross that river now? You are already doing everything that you can do for your flock, your family and your home. You have primed yourself for inspiration - that new idea will spring forth only to a calm or empty mind. It needs a little space to bloom. Give yourself permission to relax and give yourself space for that to happen. You are doing so much better than you know!
And lastly, but perhaps the most wonderful thought: Billy the Kid loves you!

Being an ag business you may get an exemption, i suggest calling and explain situation as it will hurt your lambing group.

@Eric Woodcock Great story! :-D I made a somewhat similar move many years ago when my geese got cocky. I had a pair, and especially the male would nip our legs, more and more violently if not stopped, and eventually start hitting with the knuckles of the wings. Each and every day, and maybe even several times a day (I don't remember exactly) he approached me intent to bite, and I grabbed his neck. I've heard of and seen people lift geese by the neck, but I don't think I did that. Grabbing the neck I think sufficed (at least if I held on long enough), and anyway I most often afterwards grabbed his whole body, lifted and held him a bit. In that position, "cradled", he could have easily bitten my face, but he never did. He kind of "whined", and stretched his head down, as to get as far away from me as possible. When I released him, he never charged again ... Until the next meeting or the next day, anyway :-D.

I would wait the two weeks as most of the “ready” lambs are at the low end of the target weight. Very unsettled times, every one keep your distance and stay safe.

Hi Sandi. Love watching your Vlogs. In the UK we are shutting down due to the virus, but the food industry is at full swing to ensure a good supply of food in the supermarkets. So the population must stay indoors but are permitted to go out for medical or food needs. I think you have 3 options, all must be based on making a profit or it's a waste of your time. 1. Ship them the long distance and share the cost with your friend. 2. Wait for the local market to improve. 3. Keep them and expand your flock, with an option to sell at a later date as fully grown breeding ewes? I think that the way the markets have been has to change in regard to the virus but there will be a demand for food so we must all adapt into a new system that works for us all. There is a brutally hard long road ahead for all of us but we are resilient and in time will look back and say "I am proud of what a did and achieved during that time" Please all keep safe. Austin.

Australia is struggling along with the pandemic. If everyone did what they were asked to do the spread would slow. Unlike one woman yesterday at a supermarket in Sydney who was heard talking on the phone telling a friend she was day 3 into 14 day isolation and she came to the shops as she was bored. The store reported her to police and she was arrested in the car park. Hopefully you all stay safe. I love billy.

Sandie figure ur miles/gas/time against the sale price on both trips separately then that should give u a good idea of profit for each don't forget to figure u're stress factor in against both profits cuz then it will bring one down more on ur profit..
After all big dollar isn't good if ur going to b stressed out or wear n tear on vehicles also that a few dollars gain will make a big exspenes in repairing vehicle n/or ur health !!! I know ,been there done that !!! N not when u have to consider what's going on unless u can sweet talk bigger sale price out of one buyer cuz of all the stress n bad timing involved ...word it carefully ,make sound like its not going to b worth it n maybe they will offer more $$ CUZ U MITE B THE ONLY LAMBER THAT IS WILLING TO GO THRU ALL OF THIS DURING THIS BAD TIME ,,,& they JUST MITE NEED UR LAMB ...ALOT!!? GOT WHAT I MEAN !!! GOOD LUCK
