- September 14 and 15 2013 marked 100 years of streetcar service along St. Clair Avenue and 100 years of the Wychwood Barns. Part of the festivities included TTC Toronto PCC streetcar 4500 running between St. Clair West station and Lansdowne, and TTC Toronto Peter Witt car 2766 being displayed at Oakwood Loop. The video starts off with some views of various storefronts celebrating the streetcars. Also a look inside the former Toronto Transit Commission Wychwood Barns which have been transformed into a community centre. Also Included in this video are various views of TTC Toronto PCC streetcar 4500 along St. Clair and TTC Toronto Peter Witt 2766 being brought to and from Oakwood Loop.
I really love the old style streetcars. They would be awesome for special occasions...birthdays...anniversaries...
weddings ☺️ such classics
They are indeed such beauties!
such a sexy streetcar! love the burgundy and mustard colours!
Love the old streetcars! However, with the trolley wire being converted for Pantograph operation, I wonder if they will need to convert their old vehicles from Trolley Pole to Pantograph so they can keep running on Toronto streets for Events in the years to come?
I believe they will need to convert them, or else it will make operating them a little difficult. Thanks for watching :)
You're lucky that you still have streetcars in Toronto !! *.*
True
They are gonna be around a long time
Unfortunately in my old hometown of NYC the idiotic NYC government got rid of all the trolleys and the electric buses that used double overhead wires that produced no air pollution and they were replaced by diesel fuel buses and also ran over potholes and cracks on the asphalt road and in the 1960s they complained about air pollution. At least with trolleys you also had a smooth ride and no refueling was necessary.
Really good video, thanks. I lived around there and used that station the summer of 79
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed in. Summer of 79 must have been lots of these old cars running around.
wonderful, I miss Toronto so much......
I can't believe I missed this historic event. I'm usually down around Bathurst and St. Clair just not weekends especially. Great video all the same.
At 5:37 on the left side I see my old building still there
Glad you got to see where you used to live 🙂
I remember riding this as a little kid in the late 80s
Same here. Always loved the PCC cars
PCC cars are the most beautiful ❤️. First time I rode on one was in 66 or 67.
I really like the old streetcars
So do I 😆👍
@@fares-please yea
Thank-you! They didn't give much advance notice at all, it was a fun two days and the weather was great!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Lots of fun, wish more events like this would be held!
Love the old streetcars prefer them over the new ones
Thanks for watching Phoebe!
+Brad O'Brien do you know when they run?
J ai eu la chance d embarquer dans les tramway de Toronto et en voyant ce vidéo ça me fait rappeler des beaux souvenirs merci de partager ce vidéo
excellent video a look on TTCs past!!
Gaston Palavicino Thank you . Glad you enjoyed it ☺
Thank you sir, I hope the TTC will give more of these shows in the future
Very good video. We also were in Toronto in the year 2013 and in the northwest of Toronto (in the Halton County near Kitchener) is a streetcar museum (Halton County Radial Railway). There are a lot of old streetcars, buses and trolleybuses.
Diego, me too, and where did you move to? Myself, I am now in Palm Desert, CA.
I loved riding on those streetcars as a kid in the 1960's and 70's.
VERY cool video
So guessing car 4500 from the 1950's?
and car 2766 from 1923...it still runs?
TTC the best way in Metropolitan Toronto !
Old ttc i can put a fan 😥
Beautiful car indeed! Just a little too noisy if compared to the brand new ones.
Yes very beautiful - :) The noise is part of the charm you could say LOL :) Thank you for watching!
But I loved them anyway. They do have some very special charm.
1:23 the fleet number on that streetcar is 4500 I once saw one of the new streetcars with the same fleet number
That's true. There is a 4500 LFLRV too
For some reason the TTC repeated the same numbers. 4500 and 4549 are the only 2 numbers right now repeated.
@@Humulator I see I know they even did the same thing with the rocket subway trains there was one an old H5 car with the number 5796 it was the H5 car they dolled up to look like a T1 car (my favourite H5 car) and I’ve seen a rocket train car also with the number 5796 but when ever I do a google search for TTC subway car 5796 I only get pictures of the old H5 car not the new rocket car
@@michaelsegal3558 Yes but
1. Its not right now repeated.
2. In that case, they were reusing as they were retiring which makes more sense than just repeating it while both will still be active.
I do find that h5-tr thing interesting though
@@Humulator ok
Are the PCC's rollsigns superglued to say 'Harbourfront Line Union Station / CNE or can it change?
It can change sometimes.
That Comic sans is pretty tragic
Shouldn't it have been the Witt, the PCC, then the CLRV?
They won't allow the Witt car to lead. They need a car in front and a car behind to protect it.
Brad O'Brien Thanks. Makes sense until some Fast and Furious jackpot t-bones it in an intersection.
argopunk they are actually afraid of the Witt cars brakes failing, I guess they rather have it hit the streetcar in front rather than something else. It personally doesnt make sense to me. San Francisco and Milan run Witt cars in regular service with no issues. Mind you I don't know the full story and reasoning behind it, someone at the TTC could probably explain it fully.
So they are protecting the public from a big potentially klutzy senior citizen. Got it.
@@fares-please The TTC only has *one Peter Witt streetcar* in their inventory, so it is understandable that they would want to protect it.
The newer ones are sexy
They look sharp
Those old trams do look so out of place s o far away from a n y cityscape there..and shame them locals smell all their nearby odourless blooms there..oh well.
