    If Xenoblade existed back in the NES Days, it would be badass.

      Not really...
      Can you imagine a 2-D, linear, small Xenoblade with limited story opportunities.

      Maybe they could've made it non-linear still, but 2D would still be a problem, but back then it would've blown everyone's minds. Now what if say, and yes I know time paradoxes, but what if I showed XC to the NES era?

    • @NoNameAtAll11
      @NoNameAtAll11 9 років тому +1

      +Daniel Pizarro It also wouldn't use the VRC6 sound due to that being a Konami chip. Maybe some other one because the MMC# ones don't do this song justice.

      It's mainly the structure of the notes that carry it's feelings and evokes the same sweeping feel of heroism and danger, the instrument of choice could be a piano or kazoo and you'll still feel like you're looking into the face of a dragon.

    Well, the amount of memory is actually derived from the size of the cartridge. Akumajou Densetsu I think is about 385 KB. The NSF for this track is about 60 KB alone. But it was possible to use cartridges that had more memory. I think Metal Slader Glory was the largest Famicom game at 1024 KB, and that game used the MMC5 expansion chip.

      I see why, this music(the original version anyway) played when he got rekt by the Monado II. Man, the Monado transforming to this music was like the most epic scene in the game. Second favorite scene in the game!
      First is Riki's introduction. :P

    • @KopperNeoman
      @KopperNeoman 9 років тому +5

      Golden Terrabyte It's even funnier in the New Game+ when he completely takes a shit on Shulk, who has the True Monado and is strong enough to beat the game.
      In a stupid way, of course.
      Add in Dunban's troubles with using a completely mundane sword...

    • @GoldenTerrabyte
      @GoldenTerrabyte 9 років тому

      I'm at the New Game Plus now, actually! I've been waiting to get to that point again in it! I did see Riki's introduction too, but it would have been funnier if I had left him with the spiky looking armor in the previous playthrough, like a huge spiky ball falls on Reyn's face XD
      But yeah I wanna see the Monado II scene in the new game plus! If there's a UA-cam video showing that I'd like to see that!

    • @KopperNeoman
      @KopperNeoman 9 років тому

      Golden Terrabyte Don't get your hopes up. It's mildly disappointing and a little glitchy. And the satisfaction of finally being strong enough to take out a powerful foe goes away when said foe is a weakling caked in plot armour...

    I like this because it's not some hastily done '8-bit' conversion. You actually put some effort into keeping this true to the original, and I can hear that by listening to the less up-front sound channels. The sound drivers sound more like they'd be at home on MSX2 hardware, however.
    Regardless, I absolutely love this.

    It's incredibly well done. IDK what "instruments" you have available to use, but damn it's so loyal to the original. It has the same feeling, almost as if it wasn't 8-bit.

    • @kevinklein5041
      @kevinklein5041 9 років тому +1

      And it's extremely loyal to the 8-bit feel at the same time! It could've totally been in a NES game back then! Simply amazing dude.

    The song setting for speed is the default 6, but I use the effects columns in the DPCM channel to make it switch between speeds 1 and 2, so that 6 is pretty much meaningless. Tempo is 150. It's so fast because this gives me more spaces to work with when I'm trying to find a rational tempo pattern that fits the speed of the original song.

    I mean, the stuff in the beginning sounds offtune. The rest sounds really really good. Well done! :)

    Isn't it really odd that some music actually sounds really good in 8 bit sound format?
    I mean it's a recomposition piece sure, but it matches the original note for note.

    That's the thing I loved about Xenoblade. It felt like a classic RPG from the SNES era on a modern console ^_^

    Why are you worrying abiout accuracy? It's the message that you want, not the rules. If note accuracy's going to get in the way of the intended message, throw it out.
    You can't just copy notes and expect them to work right off the bat. You're supposed to keep the song's story in mind; remember, music is the artform of matching rythmic patterns to concepts, so blind copying won't cause you to faithfully replicate the song.

    In the beginning the lead is playing the same note in two octaves. I have the lower octave slightly detuned to prevent glitching. I tried to minimize the how offtune it sounds but I only have so many options. I actually use this same technique several times throughout this cover, I guess I disguised it better at those points.

    great song from xenoblade. i could hear some inaccuracies, specifically in the harmonies, but it's still a great cover.

    It'd be even worse if you just began playing the game too, so your one pokèmon is still level one, then you just happen to stumble upon a legendary. I mean this song is used for those battles you have a 90% chance of losing in the game its from. :P

    Man, this would have been killer in an NES final fantasy or something.
