"I made this pretty quickly this morning, so it may not be as polished as I'd like." ...I wish I had something to say about that, but this music is so good I simply cannot believe it.
I love the Triangle "bass" from the A203, it's just unique. I like the Akumajou Densetsu style of this remix, it feels really authentic. Good work, Carl!
Damn, just found my new favorite channel :D Amazing arrangement! Definitely gonna have a look through your work, every track I've heard of yours so far has been FIRE.
***** Technically speaking you'd need the Famicom Disk System to play this one, since it uses the VRC6 chip not found in the NES. At least I'm pretty sure of that. There's always the possibility that I'm wrong.
***** You are. No offense. You either need a famicom or a modified NES (front loading. Top loading has expansion chip removed entirely) and a cartridge with a vrc6 chip. The famicom disk system has its own chip which is incompatible with the vrc6.
+DJReiko You're wrong. The Famicom disk System had a completely different chip: the FDS chip. It had a single wavetable channel: AKA it allowed you to modify the waveform. The waveform could be reprogrammed at any time, even while the song is playing. Namco made a better version of the chip called the N163, which had a whopping 8 channels. But it had plenty of downsides: 1. The last 2 channels overshadow the 2A03 pulse channels 2. If you used more than 1 channel, then the waveforms would sound like farts! 3. The waveforms were a lot less reprogrammable. You only had 32 "pixels" to work with, so you could only program simple waves like sawtooth, etc. It had the upside of making them alot easier to reprogram (with the FDS you need surgical precision to get the waves right!), but it was also MUCH less versatile.
This is Great,My frend linked me 1 of you videos and now i have to watch like 20+ more and stay up late ^_^ butt seriously this it AWESOME, keep up the good retro music. Cheers from Sweden we love this kinda stuff
+Monocle Enthusiast mostly just concepts looking into the limitations of an NES and how to compact such a big game into a small rom. and I have learned a lot but I still need a programer who knows 6502 assembly because if I am to do this game it has to run on an NES and although I have learned a lot i still can't program so all i can do is art and music. so when i say i am working on it i am trying to get all the info on how to do it so if you know any one who can program or even effectively hack an NES game let me know so can get this ball rolling and sorry if I got your hopes up I am not as good at wording things as I would like
+Monocle Enthusiast Thanks although I have read it before it just goes over my head :( I learn better with one on one teaching or hands on tinkering. I will however give it another read and who knows maybe I will learn something *derp face * but in the mean time if I am to continue in this endeavor I will need at least one other person to help with this project and that person needs to know 6502 assembly (because I don't yet and I take a long time to learn new things) so if you could direct me to such an individual I would much appreciate it.
As much as I want to say this is perfect for Stage 1, why not have this as the final stage music, as Belmont ascends the staircase leading to Dracula's throne room, complete with the clock tower and crescent moon in the background... It just adds a hint of suspense, as you know the final battle awaits once you enter that door...
I think I know what parts you're talking about. Well, I tried to mimic the sounds in the original, but I only have so many tones to work with. The V01 pulse sounded better to me than the V00, so I stuck with that.
its nice. i was going to ask if this one was based on the snes version of the song or the genesis bloodlines version. but i think it sounds more like the snes version.
Absolutely amazing. Extremely impressive. What masterful usage of the NES soundchips. Thanks, UA-cam recommendations, but especially thank you for creating this. Instant sub. If you're interested, I have an arrangement of this song on 8-bit Konami MSX SCC on my channel. Hope you'll check it out.
Something about this seems a little off. It almost sounds like the original version from the Super NES. I was excepting a more "tinny" sound to it, for some reason. But like I said, this sounds almost exactly like the Super NES version. It's probably the extra channels (Japanese Castlevania III-style?) combined with the samples you used...
A lot of the instruments used in the original track had two octaves of the same note playing simultaneously on the same channel. Mostly, there would be two such channels doing this at once, meaning there were four octaves of the same note being played, not counting the lead, which was also often playing the same note in two octaves at once. I had to choose which two octaves of the same note I thought sounded closest to the original. Also, the bass is incredibly low for most of the song.
I would assume most programmed the music in Hex Code, or wrote their own music programs for MS-DOS or a Commodore computer or something, and probably some of the Japanese composers used Family BASIC. I'm really not sure, but I know it wasn't Famitracker.
coatlesscarl You programmed it! I will admit, that famitracker is a bit more advanced, but it basically was a sound table where you program the notes into. Most composers weren't even able to play a single instrument. Take the Turrican II OST for Amiga. It is one of the finest trackermusic i know and the composer (TO THIS DAY) wasn't even able to play the piano. Crazy stuff...
IncapableLP That's how a fair amount of people gravitate towards music sequencing and tracker programs. They want to make music, but they don't play an instrument.

I can't stand that specific one. It doesn't using the favourable sounds of the Famicom, A midi version would be more enhanced for my listening pleasure, even if the structure is completely correct and loyal to the original what ruined it for me is the use of instruments. I did not enjoy.

Glad to hear that after 9 years
This is a perfect rendition
WHOA. This sounds almost exactly like the original SNES version. VERY nicely done!!
It probably is the original version
nope, the original is completely incompatible with famitracker/famicom/NES. Completely different sound chips.

It is so well done that sounds 90%snes 10%nes
sounds as if it was meant to be on the actual nes!

@AJ Eaves Yeah, I'm aware. The VRC6 chip as opposed to the MMC5 chip. I just had a brain fart moment and called this a disk system game.

Somebody should make a fangame of Super Castlevania 4 in the classic NES style.
That would be a demake, and is a great idea!!!!
***** been working on that on and off for some time now it's harder than it sounds
+patrick97764 This sounds incredible and I want it. Please tell me it's still a thing.

Castlevania IV demake needs to happen
Even after reading this I don't notice it. Awesome as always!
Sounds like the Famicom Disk System.
Castlevania games had the best soundtracks. Nice work
Really good! Probably the best track from Super Castlevania; its just so dang catchy!
Great job as always on this one, really like how clean your Sawtooth is and the DPCM.
The organs
wow
I've never heard something so impressive wirh VRC6, good job, it sounds like you're using N163 at times!
Very, very accurate, great version!!!
This sounds so awesome and full of bass
THIS is how a 8-Bit remix should be done! Other then a couple of slight nuances that others wouldn't hear or even care about....10/10!
Wow this soundtrack with VRC6 expansion chip sounds almost like its 16 bit SNES counterpart! Very close!
Good work as always!
this is amazing
Very good work. Sounds awesome!
great, sounds just like it. epic theme.
I really don`t know why your videos have so few views. They are really so fantastic...
Hugs from Brazil Here.
Georgeous !!!!!
How the heck?
This really is amazing bro...
Pure great job!
I guess the best way to describe how I feel about this is my profile picture. I fuckin' love all your work.
I love it bro! Thanks
*"What a terrible night to have a curse....."*
Really cool
Godly man.
The song this 8bit Song Beautiful that is all...
makes me want to whip some bad guys every time. Fantastic.
Very nice!!
Here's something I overlooked. When the song loops, it plays the first part three times instead of two. Sorry about that.
meh, I'm fine with that.
I'm more surprised that you made it quickly this morning. Something like this would take me a long time.
Castlevania On Sega Genesis And Super Nintendo Are Excellent! Konami Knew Their Stuff.

awesome!
The song that got me into the SNES.
the drum snare sound like the snares from Snake's Revenge. i like it a lot!. The best i heard for the nes version!
It looks like simon turn back into action !!
Still sounds really good
Damn it sounds like the SNES version! Very Well Done
0:09-0:17 just sounds to awesome.
this is better than the snes version. the drums are way more punchy
this sounds like what would happen if i was in akumajo densetsu
This sounds like an early 16 bit track
+Ginja Ninja , well, this WAS one of the first SNES/SFC games, so it stands to reason that it would sound like it was from the 8-bit era.
Time to start a new Castlevania adventure on a new console...
Wait this is still the old one!

I started a 2A03 version of this song, but I haven't worked on it for a while...should I pick it up again?

I would almost accuse you of plagiarism if I didn't know any better, and I don't. good job.
Subscribed
Please make a pure 2a03 version. I would like to hear how it would be like outside of Japan.
*WHO WAS IN THE STUDIO THO?!*
Amazing remix! Sound fantastic! Anywhere I could download this?
Sure did.
I see you used VRC6 for this remix.
Can you do a 2a03 (NES w/o extension chips) remix also?
How was NES music created in the 80's and 90's?

TrippinDrago Search for a documentary called "Diggin in the carts". It's free on youtube!
What if this song play in nes !
Cool remix, can I have the FTM. link? Thanks, I want to record this song on some hardware.
DOWNLOAD LINK... plz?
Downloads are available from the "About" tab on my channel page.
+coatlesscarl , this is easily your best Famitracker cover of a song ever.
Hmm.. what did you say?
winrar!
Can you make an mp3 of this? I would really like on my
VRC7?
was this done using the vrc6 ?
Yes.
i could rerecord this with improved bass (without modifying the .ftm file)
1:15 STOP
honestly I prefer this instead of the original version
Library
1:07 is sex.
It doesn't sound any different!
I cant watch the video, the constant scrolling is giving me a headache. Nice music though.
The sound is a little too harsh for my taste. Nice cover tho.
