    His tunes can be very complicated and anything but simple, but he doesn't overload them with sounds. But pretty much every track has some very creative use of effects on it. He is clever at maintaining clear spaces in his mixes though, easy for things to get super muddy with all that distortion, delay, verb etc. He loves to abuse parallel compression in a creative way too, and manages to do it without making it sound like a trick just for loudness. Really digging his stuff right now.

      What is parallel compression? Using two compressors on one sound?

    • @ShannonRothe
      @ShannonRothe 6 років тому +1

      No, it's combining the dry signal with a compressed version such that the original character isn't taken from the initial sound. It's commonly achieved using a return channel

    • @vani808
      @vani808 6 років тому +2

      I will never get compression in general. That's the only thing in production that still has me a little confused. Lol.

    I agree less is more. But dont be afraid of complicated either. Selling records doesn't make you a "great artist". Brian Eno is a brilliant example of making complicated work. Flume does not hold a flame to that creative wildfire. The "simple" easy way out isnt showing creative ability but it sells records. Pick your pill.

    • @RCmies
      @RCmies 7 років тому +9

      That's because samples are pre recorded sounds that you only need to chop and add effects to. So the more you have the more you are going to be able go choose from. When it comes to synthesizers however you have to learn how to use them all individually, so it's better to just know how to use one synth perfectly instead of kind of knowing how to use all of them. There's no cons to having a lot of samples as long as your files are organised, because they're just samples. It's the same as having more keys on a keyboard. It's better because you have a larger dynamic range. You don't need knowledge on those individual keys... Uhh.. why am I even explaining this 😅

    • @TheKarateKidd
      @TheKarateKidd 6 років тому

      In addition to what everyone else said, he meant to have more samples to *choose* from, not use. It's like having a larger menu to order from at a restaurant.
