i really love how DBD is capable of making brand new awesome cryptids just for a skin for a pre-existing character

I like to believe the Were-Elk is a manifestation of what some villagers thought Ana was. The fog is known to create monsters based on people’s fears and thoughts.

5th option the were-elk is Ana father. One thing you didn't talk about is the were-elks lullaby, it's a different voice humming it, it's a male voice humming the lullaby. The only male character that would know of the lullaby is Ana's father and sense her father was a soldier that war stuff could be his. But what about the masks, they could possibly be gifts to him from Ana and her mother to remind him of them.
Maybe he returns from fighting and learns that his wife and daughter died by the great elk and hunts it down.
Also the bear masks could represent Ana's mother.

The Entity works in mysterious ways. I believe that the Were-Elk is a materialization of Anna’s trauma, created by the Entity presumably from the carcass of the elk that killed Anna’s mother. It’s a bit far-fetched, but I think the inspirations for the Were-Elk’s character design all lead to the same place.

Didn’t even know that this skin existed till I saw it in a match and it scared the shit out of me
Idk why but I find the male humming so much more unnerving

I'm definitely liking the Were-Mother theory the most, probably since I'm watching this on Mother's Day, of the US anyways. I can imagine the Huntress face her mother one last time as a monster (like the one that changed the trajectory of her moral) who has the brute force of the beast and the tactical skills of the mother.

I like it to, the only problem is that female elk can't grow antlers

I like to think the Were-Elk is the physical manifestation of Anna's will to Survive, conjured by The Entity. All the skill and strength of The Huntress, but solely focused on killing, feeding, and surviving, which The Entity could have has put into, "Sacrifice them or I'll threaten your survival." No clue if I'm making sense but that's just a cool idea I had.

Honestly I like to think that the were-elk is a monster that roamed the red forest and fought Ana and her mom(hence the knives)and the outfit it’s wearing could be from the soldiers it killed and the kilt from a villager.

A theory I made is that the were elk is the manifestation of the huntress. I mean someone may have heard and saw the huntress. And as the story made it's way trough the village and that's how the were elk originated from (sorry if I cant explain it better my english is not quite good)

I think the were elk is an entity manifestation, with an elk killing her mother and all that but I think it was another creature in the wood. It killed Anna and took her things like the medal, gun, and masks

Ngl, since I’m already tossing my hat into the ring, I believe that the Were-Elk is literally Anna that has succumb to both her legend and the nature of creation told by the observer within the archives. It’s believeable that a myth about a beastly huntress who offed soldiers in the war and a myth of an elk offing a woman could’ve been found by travellers around the red forest across the dbd multiverse that due to word of mouth storytelling the events have become jumbled and distorted into the elk offing the soldiers and the woman (with context sliding over the years implying huntress was offed rather than her mother) alike, especially given the decommissioned skin where she wore a ‘fresh’ elk pelt which made her look vaguely like one.
In tandem, the observer comments that reality can be made manifest through the use of imagination, which is why the archive opens with him creating a whiskey glass out of nothing, using the Auris to channel his imagination as he’s still human. The same weakness isn’t something the entity has through Auric cells, which can warp a normal person into something like True Blight or transition the trapper into different universe versions of himself. So likely after being in the trial longer than most other killers, the power of the entity and the distorted memories of the survivors transformed Anna from a patient hunter into a stalking beast, likely still being conscious inside enough to remember her mother’s lullaby

There's some problems with the connection of the star she wears to "A Lovely War", but the TL;DR of it is that story seems to take place in the wrong war for the star, with the story very much in WW1. There is a chance that maybe she went on similar rampages during WW2 as she did WW1, but idk. Also, if the rifle and the star are WW2 trophies from her father, it makes it pretty much impossible for her to have been slaughtering people in WW1.
The title, A Lovely War, is a reference to a World War ONE song of the same name, the soldiers depicted are dressed in WW1 vintage uniforms (the helmets the Germans are wearing are actually older still and were replaced at some point in the war), both Russian and German soldiers in WW1 were subjected to wolf attacks in WW1 (which could have inspired this tale), and I'm skeptical the Russians gave out a star-shaped medal during WW1 (given the way the Soviets loved the star but were very iconoclastic).
Granted, the Mosin-Nagant rifle was the main/standard issue infantry rifle during both WW1 and WW2, so that is correct either way. There is also the length of the rifle to mention, that being the fact it looks like one of the shorter variants that were used more in WW2 than WW1, but it only really serves to muddy the water as that is a detail excusable enough to dismiss given the apparent quality of model. And the knives are a bit too generic for me to make anything of it.

I have the theory it’s either Anna’s father or a soldier who could have killed the huntress in a different world.
he carries both the masks and a gun which helps the theory that Anna’s father could have gone to war.

My unique take on this skin is that it is a symbol of Anna and the elk that killed her mother. Since she probably grew up and saw elks as bad animals because of an elk that killed her mother, her imagination must have ran wild with this newfound elk phobia. The Were-Elk is obviously a human that had transformed into an elk, hence the "Were" as a prefix. This can also be paired with the original supernatural phenomenon of Lycanthropes, how they change forms into wolves, or in this case, a great elk.

So, I've been arguing with people on the gender of this killer. I say it's her, the huntress. People keep telling me it's a guy. My reasons: the lullaby, the outfit is huntress you can see the skirt her clothes. Their arguing in the lore it says "himself" that the male elks only have antlers. However, context clues say it's just a traveler who survived the attack in the woods where the Huntress lives.
