Well.. I didn't know this when using 50mm insulated plasterboard. I used the 50mm insulated plasterboard around my window reveal too and now there is only like 10mm of window frame showing. it looks so strange. I litterly have plasterboard, then 10mm of window frame and then the glass haha. Thankfully I saw this before doing the entire house. now I know what I'm suppose to use haha ! If it ends up being an issue, Its an easy fix anyway.

Thank you, I was thinking to use 8mm tile backer board I had spare around my window reveals, this has confirmed my idea!

i would use the same material for the reveals. Notch the foam on the wall insulation and the reveal insulation leaving just the plasterboard then marry both notches to form a plasterboard corner. only gonna work though if you have the space to do it without losing too much of the PVC.

Hi thank you very much for this information is great.. just wondering is it OK to use laminate floor pvc underlay on window reveal?

You can still get black spot even after using insulated plasterboard because it’s the window that draws moisture and you will always get a certain amount of moisture soaking into the plaster skim because it’s hemihydrate, you could use kitchen and bathroom paint but that’s not breathable so IMO it’s always going to be a battle stopping mould around windows.

The only way to stop that is to make sure the Relative Humidity does not get to high either by removing it via ventilation or dehumidifying, or by not adding the water to the air in the 1st place... as much as is possible anyway

Now I might be mad, but I am insulating a whole wall with these now. reason, I do want to improve the insulation value in a little office room, but the layout does not allow for thick insulation on the internal wall due to the door position. These seem to be my only options in thickness. I hope the effort is worth it.

It'll certainly be worth it. Just 6mm of XPS insulation will offer around 25 - 30% R-value gains

If the insulation board you’re putting on the walls has a vapour barrier do you need to do the same with the window reveals?

What adhesive product are you using to bond the PIR/plasterboard laminate to the brickwork please?

    • @justoneofthesheep

I used expanding foam. I cut my insulation to size, sprayed foam onto the back of the insulation, wait for it to expand and go tacky then press it into place. just make sure you have something to hand to help you hold the insulation in place whilst you level it and whilst the foam sets.

What do you do then? Plaster straight onto the thin profile insulation?

Prime first 👍 ensure plenty of adhesive behind. I recommend using either AC50 or a PU adhesive.

Is the thin insulation the finish, ready to plaster, or is a regular plaster board applied to it.

What would you use if the window frame is 10mm? If you know a more effective product thats between 6 & 8mm please drop a link in 👍
