I think we've come to somewhat expect this sort of shit from the USA.
But yeah, the entire situation sounds incredibly fucked, and paints the officers involved as nothing short of career-shatteringly incompetent.
I'd reckon the school had a pretty big role to play in this shitshow as well, but it just screams incompetence on all sides.
As someone who went to an incredibly messed up school (no smarties), it sounds so alien to me that someone can get arrested for allegedly snorting SOMETHING that wasn't even tested, that it doesn't even properly register.
I mean, we did a bunch of stupid shit back in high-school, and yeah the cops got involved sometimes, but they never arrested anyone for essentially just "i heard that he told him that she snorted coke in class".

If you left it at the nurse you were okay, but then you'd have to "check out" to the nurse to get it (if they would let you). On your person you could take it as needed and stay ahead of the problems, but it was a controlled substance charge.
After I hit emancipated status I thought the bullshit would be over cause I could take care of myself, nope! They had 21+ rules at stores for cold medicine. I had a very similar experience recently, though I deserved my punishment far more than the woman in the video. About a year and a half ago I was sent to juvie because of a tweet where I joked about school shootings. A serious subject matter but the account had no followers, and I tried to make the tweet nonsensical, but it was still connected to me and flagged as a legitimate threat. Sentenced to 21 days of juvie, and other court stipulations afterward. Those 3 weeks were really emotional for me, not because of the experience itself- it felt a lot like a strict day care/summer camp type thing- but because I was in love with academics and I was paralyzed with what this would mean for my future. I was an 11th grader in high school and I was arrested close to the end of the first semester- arrested on campus. Kicked out of the IB program, and that was what really got to me. That and not getting to be with my peers and have the same life that I was accustomed to and enjoyed.
Basically everyone at juvie got 21 days, that's just what the judge/judges usually gave out. Then afterwards maybe the kid goes to a program, or probation or whatever. Met people who had been involved with guns, drugs, battery, stabbings, one guy apparently had a skin draft because he fucked with some barrels of gas or something. The part in the video about having to adjust to seeing young kids in there absolutely hit home. The thing I remember most clearly out of all the shit that happened there was meeting this kid- I want to say about 11 years old. This was really early on, about the 3rd day of being in juvie for me, me and about about 3 other guys had handcuffs and footcuffs put on, put into a van, and headed to a courthouse.
The kid is seated next to me, he seems anxious out of his mind. In juvie the people are usually separated by age, so a section for young boys, then older boys, and then for young girls and then for older girls, so this is my first time meeting the 11 year old. He asks, "What do you think will happen?" and me and the other guys tell him he is going to get 21 days, because that's what everyone got. He was quiet about receiving that news, seemed sad. He started talking about being scared and nervous and us guys try to make him feel better, comfort him. Then I believe he started talking about his case. Saying how it was bullshit. Someone asks him what they said he did and he starts talking about being accused of raping his little brother. Goes off about how he would never do that and that his brother was lying. My heart and mind hurt in confronting a situation like that, being in anguish in either scenario: If he actually did commit the act it's this horrendous thing this person next to me did, if he is being falsely accused he is experiencing this traumatic run in with the law at such a young age. When we got to the courthouse those of us who were figuring out the juvie sentence got 21 days, but some of the guys were having other updates to their case.
At juvie after about the first week I definitely felt that air of enjoying what I could of the experience, like what was talked about in the video. There were some sweet, nice, and even smart people in there. My biggest solace was reading, they had some books there that I could enjoy but it was a godsend when my mother was able to bring me my own books (my mom and family were extremely supportive throughout the experience). The books made the time in the cells/rooms bearable. Before I got the books I had hours on end with nothing to do but contemplate, god, it was depressing. In "classes", everyone was amazed with my drawing skills. I even drew some portraits of people- not my best work but they really appreciated them. And I played chess with some others, including staff. At first I made my own chess/checker pieces out of paper (using contraband paper and labeling the pieces with a contraband crayon) until a staffer brought out a real chess/checker set we could use. We sometimes watched movies, and that was alright.
Something a little whimsical I did was: a senior staffer had heard there was this smart kid crying and depressed about falling behind in calculus and she brought me about...30? sheets of calculus problems and math. It was a super sweet gesture, and paper was normally contraband so it was a nice gift, but we werent allowed writing utensils in our rooms so I couldnt write my work out, and my mind was hazy and I didnt really feel motivated to do the work anyway. So I used the paper for arts and crafts. Other material I used included strings from socks, aluminum foil from fruit cups, stickers from food containers, and toilet paper. The first thing I made was a hat- not origami style, I dont know origami- but I folded strips of paper to be like sticks and firmer strips and built the skeleton of a straw hat shape. Then I put unfolded paper on that skeleton to fill the space between the bones- if that makes sense. I loved that hat, it was so freeing to be creative in this oppressive place. I wore it and showed it off when fellow inmates happened to pass my door. Then I made a stick figure type man and then a chair for him to sit in- it was about 7 inches tall. And then I tried something bigger. In the rooms there are two stone blocks that work as beds- inmates put pads on them to sleep. The space in between the blocks was about 2-3 feet. I decided to make a bridge between the beds, in my mind I envisioned the Golden Gate Bridge. Using all the materials I had, I tried this. And I managed to make a bridge in the sense of a suspended path between the blocks with slight railings- it was difficult to support this and I had to make pillars underneath the bridge for support. I decided to keep working on it and give it a grander aesthetic the next day but when I went to sleep and then woke up my work had been taken as contraband. It was disappointing but I was close to leaving anyway.
My experience towards the end was definitely making the best of a bad situation, and there was lots that happened, some good and some bad, but I am working towards not letting that incident define me. Though I'm still facing bumps in the road, I'm doing well.

I got punched by a kid, told the principle, and they looked at footage and yelled at me for punching him, which I didn’t. They suspended me for 1 week for fighting, even though I didn’t punch. Schools need to listen to their students.
I also had a time that they got me charged for sexual assault, because I supposedly typed something into a computer. I’m a good student, always try my best, never has a F. and they charged me for something that I didn’t do. I almost completely quit school.
With schools, you can’t beat them. Even if your a legit good student, your going to get caught up in some sort of crap. Avoid talking with people that don’t like you. They will get their friends and make you look like a bad person. Trust me.

This story was really something. You know, Syrmor, the reason I think your vrchat stories are so amazing because the people you interview are speaking from the heart and seeing someone in that open way can make it easier for others to imagine themselves in that situation.
As selfish as it sounds, I can see myself in that story. Before high school, i was the kid that tried to get straight A's, no late work, no tardies, no detention, etc and etc. I was the goody two shoes, and although i may not of had crazy high scores, I would get high grades. I can see myself laughing at an edgy joke over "drugs", hanging with the wrong crowd, because I was gullible enough to do so.
And as she continued her story, it almost felt like she was telling me what could of happened if I did something so specific that I would be in that situation. And it made me so emotional, because even though I never went to juvie or accused of the possession of drugs, I feel that if I was in her shoes when everything went down I would followed the same things she did beat for beat. And the thought of getting accused for something I didn't do and letting my parents down in the process crushed me. That's why I found this story so powerful.
(Srry for being so long, I usually don't comment/ make long comments but this story really hit me. Thanks Syrmor for everything you do, and I hope you have some happy holidays)

I feel this 🖤 hurts me that kids go through the toughest things, and a lot of the time they don’t have full control over the circumstances. Happens all the time and it’s heartbreaking, but that’s why it’s important to be kind to those around you and help build them up. You don’t always know the full story or what they’re going through or been through.

So here I was a 5th grader (like 11 years old!?) put in with a bunch of high schoolers in Saturday school for months. Looking back, I was treated pretty fucked up by the "adults" working at my school... I was put into a special ed class for no reason (i was an A, B student) and i was sent to the principal's office for doing an oral project on human sacrifice and treated like a looney bin. All in all, we should fucking question authority for the children who can't.

7:35 - my ears perk up INSTANTLY at one of my favorite songs in the world! Even though it ended up being a sort of remix, the original song is Seashore and Blue Skies by Yatoo. Puts me in a good mood always, immediately, and without fail, and I'm just so happy to hear it in random passing on a video I'd never watched before. Thank you for your wonderful choice in music, Syrmor!
The content of the story also reminds me of a similar happening from my high school years. Prior context, myself and a couple friends lived so close to school we could all walk there. So, this particular morning my two friends and I meet up, and before we head into school, we stop at one of our favorite smoke spots to christen my friend's brand-new bong. We hadn't ended up using it, but I had my pipe on me as well (a small color changing dro spoon with white spirals that would end up turning an extremely deep, dark blue. First pipe I ever had: Helios, I miss that pipe). After we get stoned to the bone and get into class, I'm chilling and 1st period comes and goes with no issues. Barely get situated into my seat in 2nd period when one of the more hardass APs comes to get me and have a little chat in the principal's office. My friend's Ex gf, with whom my friend had broken up with literally the day prior, ratted us out and showed the principals where we had hidden the bong (it was quite a ways away from school property, it was pretty bullshit that we got caught up on that horseshit). On top of that, I got in trouble for my pipe. The punishment for this was an out of school suspension to a facility called "Long Term", which had similar protocols to where this girl was sent (necessary uniform of white button-up tucked into khakis with a black belt, entry through a metal detector, ect.) The minimum amount of time one had to be there was 6 weeks, which was about what was left of the school year, so I ended up finishing out my Sophomore year there and called it a day. A lot of the people in there were really cool, I kinda liked it. Anyway, that's my spiel, sorry for the absolute novel lol!
