Stephen Russell: Thank you so much for posting the beautiful video for this gorgeous heartbreaking song.
I really wish you'd posted the lyrics as well, though (do you think you could? Please?). I've always thought that "Marry Me" contained some of Rowland's best lyrics. Oddly enough, the more I listen to this song, the more I'm sure that it was Rowland's attempt at writing his version of the sort of song that Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich and George Morton used to write for the Shangri-Las. You know, a real tearjerking teenage melodrama, a they-say-we're-too-young-to-run-away-and-get-married song. I could just about imagine Mary Weiss singing this. Except that Rowland - being Rowland - takes the melodrama and heartbreak in the central situation several steps further than the Shangri-Las ever did.
P.S: And Genevieve McGuckin's keyboard playing on this song sounds so great; I can't get over it. She was always such an underappreciated talent; I wish more people knew about her. I think she's one of my favorite rock'n'roll keyboardists.
