Wheelchair Lift Removal from a Van (Chevy Express Van Conversion) // Travel Snacks

- The first step in my van conversion is to remove the wheelchair lift out of the van. This proved to be more time consuming because the screws were rusted. The Ricon wheelchair lift wasn't as heavy as my dad and I thought either.

One top bloke your dad is. He puts me in the mind of my grandad always willing to help others
He's the best! That's so cool about your grandad. :)
Thank God for dads they know how to do everything! I call my dad for the slightest inconvenience in my life 😫
Yes indeed! I wouldn't be able to do 90% of these things without him. ♥️
Make a line in the top of the bolt with a dremel tool then use a flat head screw driver to unscrew the rusted bolts.
Yippeeee! Your Dad’s the Best Allison! 🥳🙏❤️
Your Mom and Dad are so cute, god bless 'em. You guys didi a great job! Binge watching this playist for the knowlege!!! Thanks for posting!!
Your Dad is a laugh riot!
haha I know, he's a nut!!
Lol your dad is the cutest. I love how you’ve tried to get him to quit for the day, multiple times and he’s so committed to getting it done 🤣
Aw thanks. Yeah I was trying to make sure he didn't overdo it, but he's persistent!!
Your dad is so cool! I’m new here but I’m following the journey!!! ❤️
Your dad reminds me of my dad! "This would be a big spark!" "Who's that? Who are you talking to?" ...always one to crack a joke. And he has all of the electrical/carpentry skills I lack just like mine. XD
Hey cool! It's such a blessing to have such a handy dad with a sense of humor!!
Listening to your dad tease you is hilarious 😂
😁
Your dad is funny. Made me laugh.
YoUr dads so sweet
It's a Blessing to Loving Parents!!!! Also to be a Loving Child 🥰
Yes indeed! 🙏🏼
WELL DONE DAD👏👏👏👏👏👏! AWESOME JOB 👍! You too. You can see the wonderful relationship between you! Beautiful 👌👍
Yay, thank you!! It's been quite an experience so far. We bump heads a lot but we're also bonding over this as well. Thank you for your nice comment!
He had me laughing the entire video! “Who’s dad?” 😂😂😂 “that’s chapter 37 of the book!”
Just wondering if he soaked the bolts in PB blaster before he tried taking them out?
He's a pretty hot shit though! "What's a spline?" " That's chapter 37!" Lol 😂
Your parents are amazing, God bless you all. Greetings from Iraq.🌺
Thank you! I'll pass along your nice message. God bless you as well!
Your dad is totally awesome!! Got to love his attitude.
Just started watching this video and I have already had a few chuckles! I have the same problems when I work on stuff. Drill bits breaking, bolts breaking, etc.
That prank on your dad was priceless!!! :)
I just stumbled across your channel and I’m looking forward to the series on converting your van. BTW, I’m digging on the Joshua trees. I used to live in the Mojave Desert and have a fondness for those trees.
Awesome, WELCOME TO THE SNACK PACK 🎉 Yes I grew up in the desert so I know what you mean. The Joshua Trees are comforting in a way. Thanks for watching!
Thanks. I wondered how to do it. I passed on a van because of a lift. Intense project.
Thank you 🙏
I just love your dad!
Aw thanks! Me too ❤️
That's funny, I thought the same thing when I played with the wheel chair lift on the ambulance I just bought. I'm getting ready to move and that lift would come in handy with loading boxes.
Your Parents are awesome!
Your dad is a hoot! He had me rollin’ with the pop goes the weasel 😆
He sure is! It's a new adventure every day of this van build. haha
Your dad is freaking amazing
Definitely!
I know people don't to do it but wear safety gear, gloves and glasses. It will save you hands and more importantly your eyes it might be a pain but worth it. Love how you are taking this on.
We've had some accidents along the way so we've been wearing the safety gear more now. (At first we were more lax about it). Thanks for the concern and support. Much appreciated!
At least your honest. Mostly just stay outta his Way😂
Yes indeed! 😊
Really enjoyed watching this video! 👍
One I’m so glad I found your channel two your dad is the best!
I’m glad you found the channel too! My dad is a blessing for sure!
Love your Joshua trees!! I live in the Antelope Valley so you must not be too far from me 👍🏼! Loving your channel!!
Awesome! Yeah I'm in the Southern California desert. Thanks for the compliment on the channel!
I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Yay! Thanks for watching!
I just purchased a wheelchair transport van that had a lift in it. I took out the lift and now have an outdoor shower! I just open the doors, put up a tarp and there it is!! I will use a bucket with a portable pump and shower head. I paid $200 for it and put a new fuel pump in.
Whoa great deal!! I'm excited for you. I thought about adding a shower but for now I'll stick with Planet Fitness. I may try outdoor showering in the future!
@@travelsnacks with the hi top you can put a portable one in. Look at some setup videos. I have a little pump that goes in a bucket and has a shower nozzle on it. It's fast, easy and best of all, cheap! I heat the water and bang, a nice hot shower! I love it.

Take a look.
Cool dad! 😁😁😁👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks! I'll pass on your nice message to my dad. 😊
I hope your father stays healthy as you work him this hard, my father was working hard the day before he died of a heart attack for neighbors on repairing things for them.
Definitely! This actually gets him up and off the couch. I'm also not working him, he is choosing to help. You'll notice in the video (and stuff that didn't even make it into the video) I suggest stopping or taking a break several times. Thanks for your well wishes!
@wanderingrenegade771 I'm so sorry for your loss. Your dad seemed awesome.

Gotta do the same I'm 65 but got tools have ridged drill bits
You can do it!
Your dad n my dad should race to see who has to go to the emergency room first. LMAO
haha... 😆 Old school dads.
Good job.
Did you sell the lift ?
O gee I'm thinking of looking at a handicap van... But Idknow 😮?
I told my husband to take a break he want to keep on going to job is finish Oracle planning to open eat then finish up
Doing the same just got a 2000 Chevy van low miles. But I'm 65 this is going to be a big task ? I got the bestest tools Retired Ac tech built hot rods in 70s n mechanical enclined gotta get old gas outta tank n redo front brakes
Your parents rock. And your mom reminds me of mine so much. Excited to follow along on your build!
Yeah they've been super supportive through this whole journey. Thanks for watching and being part of the Snack Pack!!

Contact a local Church and Donate it if you need to. Plus, You can also get a Tax write off .
Ohhhh good tip! Thanks for sharing this idea and thanks for watching!
Good job. I bet U can find someone who needs that lift.
Thank you! Yes, we're still trying to either sell it or donate it before the van build is complete!
did you sale the wheel chair lift ?
Awesome! I am about to get this done on my van lol. What did you do with it? How did you dispose it? Thank you! I appreciate it
Wonder if those recycling places where they pay you based on weight is an option if you can't donate the whole lift.
Do you still have the wheelchair lift I would be interested in buying parts off of it….
Sorry I no longer have it. I donated it to another van dweller!
I am looking at a mid-length school bus 2 convert 2a Skooly and was thinking of leaving the lift 2 make it easier 2 lift my 100lbs electric bike inside. Also hood for emptying and refilling water jugs. Besides, who knows?....I might need it one day if I'm on crutches or a walker.... Just curious... .does it take up slot of room inside?... and does it block the window?
It took up room but not TOO much. It blocked one of the side doors and the window in that door. It could definitely be useful but you'll have to decide how often you'd really need it compared to losing space in the middle of the van. Hope this helps. Blessings for your future Skooly adventure!

I think I'm selling mine to a mobility place. I was gonna take it out, but it looks too daunting. Plus, someone could really use it. Mine also has a shifter up front that does the gas and brakes! Did your have the doors that swing open automatically? Mine does, so if I took it out I would have to find some way to fix the doors as the latches were missing. The lift is a Ricon R1208. I think from 1998. In a 1995 e150 econoline van. Your van and your lift look very similar to mine!
Hi Allison! What site do you use to edit your videos ?
I use Adobe Premiere Pro.
check out leave her wild
Yes! I'm already subscribed to her channel. Great stuff!
Cool cool beans yall did great job just idea research the lift cus those lifts can be worth from 5k or up to 15k if not u could save it what ever yall do plz do not junk the lift cus to the right person it could be life saver but the va donation should be tax deductible many blessings keep walking tall prayers 4 yall proud of u ur doing great really enjoy ur channel keep on keeping on
🚐🏕🌌👍👍💪😎👍👍
Yeah for sure! We still have it and still hope to sell or donate it before the van build is done. 🙏🏼
How many miles are on your van?
Around 78k
@@travelsnacks
Hahaha...mines 80k!
Sooo similar!
That does not look fun at all 🤦🏻♂️. I like the Joshua Trees 😊
Nope, it wasn't fun but at least that part is done!! Thanks for watchin!
Out of curiosity, how do you generate your income?
By donations generously given by the Snack Pack! Plus I get a little income from UA-cam ads.
Can I come travel with you? :)
You can travel with me through my videos!! :)
This makes no sense, the van was literally designed and made specifically for what your trying to accomplish all for more hieight, haha .
And they are traditionally called “ CONVERSION VANs”
You could had really just updated the inside, I can’t imagine all the rewriting for the entertainment and crap. As a automotive mechanic. That’s a nightmare.
None of this makes sense. The van is already perfect for what you need. Just take out the wheelchair hydraulic and update
I totally understand how you can view it that way AJ! It was a very nice van to begin with. It's just that this is going to be my full time home so I wanted to design it the way that works best for me. It HAS been a real challenge but in the end it will be worth it. Thanks for watching!
Travel Snacks I definitely am impressed that you two are able to do fabrication with no skills at all. But you will be living in it full time. So I do understand haha. I do like your videos.
I really wish I could do this myself
@@travelsnacks
The cool thing is your van is all wired up. That's a pain in the ass.
They’re trying to get rid of a wheelchair lift and I’m trying to find a van with a lift. 🤦🏻♀️
I'm selling mine.
