- This is my first attempt at installing protection film on my car. This is also my very first UA-cam video so forgive me for the production quality.
The product I used is from Weathertech www.weathertec... and this is my experience as I figured out how to correctly install it on my car
You can spray lubricant on the outside of the film to minimize friction and scratching. As others have noted, use a heat gun or hairdryer to “self-heal” the scratches.
I don’t think weather tech will double protect their film because in the guide it says to wet both sides of the film
Thank you.
did this too but i used the complete kit with the slip solution from weather tech. No scratches on my film since as i was using the squeegee i was spraying it with slip solution keeping it lubricated
I since got a new car a 2021 VW Arteon and bought the lens protector again from weather tech. The install was much easier this time with no scratches. I think doing it once prior helped :)
just put this on my Gti today,
definitely get help from someone else otherwise you will struggle to put them on.
its a bit hrd to do this
my outcome was just average
😬
Usually film protection scratches are self healing by adding more heat.
I think that if in the future you wet the adhesive side of the film before starting the install might help. Just my opinion. Great video by the way.
Thanks! I’ve since purchased a new VW Arteon and bought weather tech for it. The install was much easier and faster! I still recommend weather tech
The film is self healing. Heat it up with a heat gun and those scratches will disappear.
nice video, and thank you for showing me how difficult it is to install it.
I haven’t tried the 3M but so far I’m very impressed with how it works. Can’t tell it’s on and protects my headlights from the minor road rash and stones. 👌💥
jumping from all the air bubbles to no air bubbles is a bit annoying as id like to see legit how long it took
Trailerpark Supersports right...get the package for your vehicle and try it your self...will be a similar process. Annoying? Ok
Drag the squeegee instead of pushing it and you shouldn’t get scratches.
So how did you get the edges to fold and not stick out? I see in both the headlights that video got cut off abruptly?
Did you notice any decrease in headlight intensity AFTER installing the WeatherTech film?
Not at all. Lights stayed nice and clear! Highly recommended!
i think it'll be a better idea to just stick to 3M product when it comes to film and wrapping stuff.
@Dion Parchment, It's been a couple years since you did this video, how does it look now, how did the film hold up?
I was just looking at them on the Weathertech website and decided to look on UA-cam to see how people faired installing them and came across your video. Curious how it still looks after a couple years.
Hey thanks for checking it out! After two years it’s actually held up pretty good! I still have the same one installed and it looks just fine. The reason I got it was to protect the actual lens from stone chips and it’s doing the job. I just detailed my car a couple days ago and I’m
Satisfied with my purchase! Just take your time to install it right and make sure you have the correct fit for your vehicle
@@afrojoe24, thanks for the quick reply.
The film hasn't dulled or yellowed? What do you clean it with? Do you put any post wash product on it, or just soap and water?
@@JessieAdams1 there is no dulling or yellowing at all. But I keep my car very clean all year. I high pressure wash it the soap it with microfibre cloth. Soft water to rinse then a buff...wax...then buff again. Needless to say I love my cars clean lol
My gilrfriend surprized me by having my headlights restored on my 2000 Pontiac Bonneville and I was considering purchasing this kit to prevent them from hazing up again. Thank you for posting this video and sharing your results.
