  • “Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in the God of my salvation.”
    Habakkuk 3:17-18
The Book of Habakkuk affirms that God is sovereign and omnipotent. All is under His control even when it is not evident to us what God is doing, or what He allows.
Habakkuk cries out to God for an answer to why God’s chosen people are allowed to suffer in their captivity to Babylon. Babylon was a growing empire that exerted power and dominion over many nations, only for a season. It would eventually fall in ruin, as no one anticipated at the time. God answers Habakkuk’s question by clarifying that the sinful human condition allows for evil which brings forth destruction. He urges everyone to turn away from evil and ultimately trust in Him. God will bring a redeemer to deliver all of the oppressed.
