The first 2 months since my son’s birth were difficult with a lot of sleep deprivation bc we would wake up every two hours for feedings. He was born underweight with low blood sugar levels and I wanted to make sure he would eat every two hours to improve his health. He eventually caught up and surpassed the weight he needed to be at. By 2m he started to sleep at night a little more with 2-3 wake-up night feedings. By 3m my partner, baby and I started to sleep throughout the night thankfully.
I have 4 kids 6 years-old and under... the ones with the hardest time sleeping have the most behavior issues. It really is important for their happiness and well-being!
Breast milk always worked magic for me because its warm and my baby never gave me troubles when it came to sleep I was very lucky because in the ward my daughter was the only quiet baby through the night even with other babies crying she won't wake up she slept through noise and 3 years later still does. A good way to get babies to tire out fast is to make their eyes constantly focus on something…one thing. If you stare at anything long enough (even adults) your eyes will start to tire and your eye lids will close automatically. Also keep the think they are focusing on slightly above their eye level (keep it parallel to their lower forehead) so they have ti look up slightly above their normal sight of vision to see the object. That causes their eyes to also get tired quicker and they fall asleep.
Wish I had watched this documentary before my baby was born. However I’m lucky enough my baby fell into sleep pattern by around 2 months old, where she could differ between day and night and began to have uninterrupted night time sleep. Swaddling has helped a lot, too. During the first couple months we had to wake her up every 2-3 hours for feeding to meet her weight gain goal.

Important: If a baby is very tired it becomes very active and wild. If it wont sleep, it will cry a lot. Why: look at minute 19:24. Care about sleeping times. Never shake your baby. NEVER!
I consider myself VERY lucky to have a baby that sleeps through the night from around 6-8 weeks old. My baby sleeps 12-13 hours with 2 feedings in there. He does NOT take long naps during the day once he's awake. He may catch a 15-20 minute cat nap and that's it. My 6 year old was up every 1.5 hours.. that's why I waited almost 6 years to have another baby. Now my brain wakes me up when my baby's still sleeping 😅
glad to see i am not alone! my baby also sleeps trough the night but very rarely take long naps during the day except if he's being held. I was afraid that he didnt get enough sleep if I wasn't holding him, but i can no longer do that (he's getting heavier!). Now I just let him take catnaps as long as he get a good night sleep
My baby slept very poorly while he slept alone in his crib. Once i put him in his parent's bed, we all slept quite reasonably. At around 2 he started sleeping the entire night without waking up. He's 3 and still sleeps in our bed.
Some parents want the baby cuddling, like my sister in law. We are on the other hand, sleep train our baby to sleep in his own bassinet or crib from day 1.

The body of a pregnant woman also requires more sleep. No one talks about it. Yet in the new world pregnant mums have to go to work to keep a career 8 hours a day at least while feeling exahusted and sleep depraved because you are constantly waking up at night, having to carry on when all you need is a nap in the middle of the day because it is so difficult for some to keep awake and functioning. But you have to do it and hopefully you have a great partner that can et you go straight to bed once you get home and pick up all the house work for you.

Its because of your warmth and heartbeat, that is were the baby feels safest. Babies have always slept with their parents throughout history its just a recent thing to try to make the babies sleep seperate to us.
How old are you? Your baby will adapt to your sleep patterns if you aren't too fussy and nervous. Just allow your baby to see you wind down and he'll do the same.
My kid had a predictable and consistent sleep pattern when I sleep trained him at 4 months. It was TRAUMATIC for us until he was sleep trained. Didn't take any longer than that to obtain a regular schedule.
Perhaps my children were different from the norm but I NEVER had trouble getting my babies to sleep for the night or for a nap. Unless they were sick, none of my three children woke from sleep crying. When I heard them fussing to awake and went to get them they were all smiles, happy to see me sort of thing. It was great! My first daughter began to sleep 10-12 hours straight before she was 3 weeks old. My second baby, also a daughter, took a little longer. She was about 5 weeks old when she started sleeping through the night. She didn’t sleep as long as 10 or 12 hours, but did sleep at least 8 hours and often longer than that. My third baby was a son, he was born with health problems resulting from allergies to dairy and insufficient production of antibodies. Consequently, his nights and days were very difficult for him. However, once the dairy allergy was diagnosed and addressed, when he was, maybe, 2-3 months old he began to sleep through the night as well. 5 minutes in and I’m already disappointed in the fact that they’re showing a baby sleeping in what looks like a Dock-A-Tot on a tray/table?? That is definitely not safe sleep and should not be presented in a documentary about sleep for babies because it can be so misleading for new parents.
Parents are seasoned adults who have been giving good care to their babies. A new parent is an adult who is completely unprepared for the reality of a new baby. They don't sleep on command and they are in charge. You as the adult must adapt to their schedule. Didn't you get six weeks off? Take off the suit and professional title and become Dad or Mom. Embrace your new role and your baby is the new boss. Your feedback and performance appraisal is them showing you contentedness. 👍😌👶😳🙂
It's 3:30 am right now and my girl is a colic baby. She is just one and half months old. She just doesn't sleep. We both keep crying. 😖 Hope we manage to follow eat - sleep routine.
Thankfully, never had issues with my baby's sleep. He started sleeping through the night at 8 weeks (6-8 hour stretches), around 4 months started sleeping 12h with no issues. The 1st parent's sleep setup seems unsafe and pretty darn bright. Jamming a baby in a sleep sack and then into a dockatot is beyond ridiculous. What those parents need is a book or two on Montessori style parenting to start respecting babies' needs and not jam them into confining contraptions...
Ecclesiastes 11:5 New Living Translation 5 Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb,[a] so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.
very interesting and informative video, However, I do have a question about swaddling. Since 1 reason for swaddling is to have the baby sleep better by keeping the twitching from startling the baby and waking him. Will the baby be able to store the same memories as a non swaddled baby?
We parents all know how important sleep is and want our baby to sleep. I wish this documentation would have given us scientific ways how to best make our babies fall asleep!!!!!!!🤪😂😬
31:00 then i guess tightly wrapping the baby (swaddling) during sleep is totally counter productive!? My baby responds extremely negative to this, so I'm not doing it. This is fascinating. Although i was hoping it would take less than a year for her to have a rhythm and sleep through the night😩🥺😐
My mom was a night owl 100%. I saw a video once that some researchers were circling the idea that people who prefer the night are descendants of people who were on guard at night. It's interesting to think of.
You know who is not using this app that all the research data is coming from? Mothers whose babies are sleeping well at night. There is no need to use an app. Research babies that sleep through the night not babies that don’t sleep well to figure out how to help babies sleep. I am a mom of 5 whose babies all slept through the night by 8 weeks. My 4 week premie baby just went 7 hrs last night. She will be 5 weeks old tomorrow. Sleep is so important for growth and development. Babies can sleep fairly effortlessly through the night by 8-10 weeks. I should also mention that these babies of mine are not all my biological children so it’s not just because they have good sleep genes. There is hope parents. Look up parent directed feeding. It’s very successful.
48 minutes and the only conclusion they can come to is that sleep is important, as it helps us consolidate what we’ve learned. Duh, we already knew that. What a waste of time.
I do think it's not a waste of time. The conclusion is something we all know, but the scientific process behind it was thoroughly explained. I like this entire series because it helps us, lay people, understand more of something that we don't. ☺️

Nice documentary. Insightful.
Only watching this making me sleepy
Im here for First Foods... and that episode hasn't been uploaded😓
The next thing I want from Netflix is Mommies and Daddies.
5 minutes in and I’m already disappointed in the fact that they’re showing a baby sleeping in what looks like a Dock-A-Tot on a tray/table?? That is definitely not safe sleep and should not be presented in a documentary about sleep for babies because it can be so misleading for new parents.
I had the same thought
Had the same thought
Is it really a mystery that babies sleep so much because they are growing so fast? It's tiring.
They all will eventually sleep through the night. When they leave for college 😉
a trick : you can watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Alexander Cyrus Definitely, I've been using flixzone for since december myself :D
@Alexander Cyrus Yea, have been using flixzone for since december myself =)
@Alexander Cyrus Yea, I've been using Flixzone for years myself =)
Watch Claire Verity method saved my life/sleep
Parents are seasoned adults who have been giving good care to their babies. A new parent is an adult who is completely unprepared for the reality of a new baby. They don't sleep on command and they are in charge. You as the adult must adapt to their schedule. Didn't you get six weeks off? Take off the suit and professional title and become Dad or Mom. Embrace your new role and your baby is the new boss. Your feedback and performance appraisal is them showing you contentedness. 👍😌👶😳🙂
Exactly
Great information 👍 thank you
They’re over stimulated at first with everything they’re seeing obviously
Sleep training my 4 month baby saved my life 👌🏻
What method did you use? Did it work for long time?
They say when you drink cacao late in first trimester and 2nd trimester the baby when born is more calm and sleep better not sure if this is proven
It's
3:30 am right now and my girl is a colic baby. She is just one and half months old. She just doesn't sleep. We both keep crying. 😖 Hope we manage to follow eat - sleep routine.
I can understand.. my first born was a colic baby as well... It was so hard for me
Lily is such a sweet sister to Willow.
People said its gonna be worth it. I still dunno what worth for it but I HOPE SO.
12h at 4m ??? Lucky you!
So beautiful this video 💜
I Love It 😍
Very good. A new knowldge I learn today!
Love baby Nelson so much💕💕
Ecclesiastes 11:5
New Living Translation
5 Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb,[a] so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.
Great documentary ! that scientist could actually be a good cast replacement as Robert de Niro :D
very interesting and informative video, However, I do have a question about swaddling.
保育園の良い先生は味方になってくれた。
Too many people think babies are a blessing and not enough people admit how weird and scary having a baby is
31:00 then i guess tightly wrapping the baby (swaddling) during sleep is totally counter productive!? My baby responds extremely negative to this, so I'm not doing it.
This is fascinating. Although i was hoping it would take less than a year for her to have a rhythm and sleep through the night😩🥺😐
48 minutes watched, can someone tell me how to make infant nap/sleep?
You didn't understand anything in this video, it's not a tutorial xD
no, the scientists only researched that they do not know what causes babies to sleep like they sleep and that the brain is complex
This. We all know we need sleep - dah.
How do we make them sleep at night!? Apparently wait 5months
Watched it full but still didn’t get whats d take away from this! Told something we already knew.. waste of time as expected from netflix..
Watching this while trying to put my 18 month old to sleep
My mom was a night owl 100%. I saw a video once that some researchers were circling the idea that people who prefer the night are descendants of people who were on guard at night. It's interesting to think of.
This was amazing
That’s really beautiful..
So many unsafe sleep practices in this video about baby sleep -.-
It’s a realistic portrait
@@chizzydd560 Doesn't matter. It's not hard to educate the parents in the video
Please upload 'First Foods' episode
stupid obvious info. they would better research how to improve sleep of babies or how to live if you're mother
Thanks Netflix ❤️
It’s very successful.
sleep training works very well..............
That's amazing!
Dear Netflix-Team, what Song is the Intro Music? It is so so lovely.
Omg please get this girl glasses that fits
48 minutes and the only conclusion they can come to is that sleep is important, as it helps us consolidate what we’ve learned. Duh, we already knew that. What a waste of time.
I do think it's not a waste of time. The conclusion is something we all know, but the scientific process behind it was thoroughly explained. I like this entire series because it helps us, lay people, understand more of something that we don't. ☺️
@@aprilpualengco7344 Cool if you learned something new. I didn't.
And this sums up Netflix as a whole pretty much lol melt your brain watch content
My baby is 3 weeks old and he never slept 16h within 24h…
One might try playing a bit with them at intervals during the day.
yeah but, HOW DO I LET THEM SLEEP AT NIGHT!
16:35 Dinner is coming
I have to watch this for school

What is the app name to record baby's sleep time in this video?
I use babytime! Its awesomr I love it. And you can share it with baby sitters so they can use it too!
