- Epidemic Sound or Artlist which one is the best choice for the type of content you are making?
Similar priced these are probably the best services for royalty free music for UA-cam, TikTok, Instagram and podcasters to name a few.
Both offer a wide variety of music and sound effects for sound design. But the type of music and licensing they offer will be the major deciding factor when you're making your decision.

Excellent video, Thomas! I have the personal Subscription on Epidemic Sound and I'm really happy with it. Artlist also seems like a phenomenal option.
One thing I want to add is that Epidemic Sound has a HUGE data base with excellent samples for all sound effect needs if you for example are making short movies for your UA-cam channel and if want some cool effects to add to your videos in general to highten the production value.
Keep up the excellent work, you're a true source of inspiration! I'm finally on my way to make a fresh restart on my channel. It will be fun to enter creative mode again! :)

My biggest issue with Epidemic is that you need a perpetual active license. So 10 years down the line, I'll still have to remain subscribed, regardless of how much of their music I've downloaded.
Don’t you find the sound effects on epidemic sounds a little to computer made rather than using real audio recorded sound effects on

@@TheReviewDesk As far as I understand - with Epidemic you just have to be subscribed at the date you publish the video. If you cancel your subscription later, as I just have, those tracks will still be licensed to you.

It's not available any more. The license on artlist now matches all other platforms
That's why I made a new video about a week ago.
It was nice while it lasted. But anyone could see that this wasn't a viable long-term solution for neither Artlist,
creators or the artists.
Artists needs to get payed and if they're not happy with the level of compensation they'll move their catalog to another service and you'll get a copyright strike if you use the music as it's no longer part of the Artlist library.
So it's a three way symbiosis between Artlist, artists and creators. That said, there's still no clearing links and that kind of stuff. And the music is still the most real sounding music in my opinion ;)
I agree with the "limited" feeling of Epidemic Sound. Almost like they are so much of the same thing and you feel limited because the good songs are usually overused by other creators and you dont want to use it aswell

would you say for artists who draw Timelapse videos should go for Epidemic sound or Artlist?
It totally depends on your taste in music and what you think would fit your content the best.
That's what I am figuring out. There are so many options out there. I do like the fact that in Artlist you can get clips of the instruments that are playing in the song to fit your needs.@@thomasfransson

Never heard that about artlist before. Never heard about anyone getting copyright strikes from them. All artlist songs are pre-registered on the platforms mentioned on their site.
I've created at least 200 videos for clients using artlist so far without a hitch.
Sounds like there's something weird going on there. I believe it's also the platform algorithm that flags for copyright.
So I'm pretty sure this is the only time I've heard someone getting a copyright claim from artlist, in contrast to other services.

Lol - Actually I haven't heard or seen any of this on social media.
Artlist clears the tracks on their website unlike most other services that require a link between all your deliverables across platforms for clearing copyright. So this sounds like a really bad laid out smearing campaign than anything else.
With youtube and all other social media outlets, this would have been known outside of that tech guys channel. Sorry but I call it BS.

I'm a member of the official artlist facebook group. If I haven't seen or heard about anyone having clearing issues with artlist.io there, how can that be wrong?
Once again, the fact that all artlist music is pre-cleared on all major platforms and don't require any account linking to avoid copyright issues. This in contrast to most other similar subscriptions services makes this issue highly unlikely.
You can Lol and argue all you want my friend becauseof one guy who claims he gets strikes. But that's the way it is.
i create sports videos, i pay yearly subscription with Epidemic sound but i cancel in a month when i realized that is nothing descent audio there about sports
Did you find a service that works better for you?
If I sing up in epidemic sound and use 5 songs in my videos and the next month I don't want to subscribe again. These 5 songs on my video are copyrighted or because they are uploaded they don't have a problem
If the video is posted during an active subscription there won't be a problem.
But if you re-upload that same video later or use any of the same songs after you've ended your subscription. That's when you'll run into problem.

Don’t know when they changed it but Artlist now have the same license type as Epidemic where it’s only valid for new projects with a current subscription…
True, I made a more recent video where I mention this. Maybe there was too many people cannibalizing that generosity. That and the risk of an artist moving their rights to another online service- thus resulting in creators getting copyright strikes on songs they downloaded from artist when artlist could license it to you.
Still great music and so much easier when dealing with client projects.

can you do a video how you shot this video ? did you use light souces like soft light boxes ? how did you create such good depth of field ? have you made the background blurry in software ? thank you

This whole video was shot on my Canon SL2/200D and a manual vintage 50mm f1.7 lens. Most, if not all shots are shot wide open at f1.7 which was a bit of a pain ;)
I focused on a point or object and walked up to that point in front of the camera. Double checking focus with the Canon smartphone app.
That 50mm lens also create some pretty cool bokeh.

Does anyone knows if I can one use the stock footage in artlist after the subscription ends?
I logically it would be the same as for the music. As content rights move around, having a an active subscription by the time of posting is how you can be sure you won't get a copyright strike. I'm sure this is explained more detail on their website. But I can highly recommend artist max, the footage is amazing. Not your standard cookicutter stock footage.
What is very annoying about these music apps are ANNUALLY BILLING. There should be more flexibility. A lot of things happen within a full year
Both Artlist and epidemic sound offers monthly subscriptions for their social plans.
For commercial subscriptions you'll just add the cost for music to your clients bill. Keep in mind that clients might post that content to new platforms over the course of a few months as they expand their social media presence. That's why a yearly plan makes a lot of sense. To keep you and your clients in the clear.

If I get artlist, make a music video with one song, and remove the subscription; is this still okay to do?
Yes, you can get a subscription for that project and then cancel your subscription when the music video is published.
Artlist added some clarity/updated the terms of use just recently in order to protect creators from getting copyright strikes.
As an example - If an artist have their music available on artlist and then gets a record deal where they have to transfer the rights to that record label. That record label now own the rights to that music and can give you a copyright strike if you publish a video after the transfer of rights.
I recently experienced this as I resumed a project I started 8 months ago where I had downloaded music and used it in my rough cut. When I resumed the project I noticed that one of the artists music was no longer available on artlist. So if I would have published that video today - the company/person currently holding the copyright would probably gotten med a copyright strike.

Yes you can use artlist on multiple platforms. The social creator license is limited to one account per platform and the unlimited is, unlimited.
Social creator license:
All your personal social channels.
One social channel per platform
Unlimited:
Unlimited social channels
You confirmed what I was suspecting. Artlist songs sound like music and I don't mind browsing for too long, on Epidemic Sound I get fatigued really quickly. Thank you!
Both are great, but yes, depending on your music taste and the type of projects you're doing. One is definitely better than the other.

They do. Personally I found it to be very clunky and limited.
I prefer using the desktop site on my smartphone. Even when just browsing for music on my commute or while out shooting.

Unfortunately, Artlist changed the terms. I started a subscription on Artlist based on what you said about the license, but I realized you are not free to use the music if you end your subscription. Please update your information.
It is better to remove this video, add the new information, and upload it again.
Theres probably been some changes and updates to both services since this and videos before mine was posted.
I recently made the same discovery on an old project I resumed where the artist were no longer available on artlist.
My guess, if an artist moves their music and rights between platforms and labels, Artlist/Epidemic Sound no longer have the rights for that music which would result in a copyright strike if you use it in a production after it's no longer in their catalog. It's a total bummer, but probably the best way for them to save you from getting copyright claims.
I'm sorry, but that is just what will happen over time. I will add a disclaimer in the description about terms of use. And make more videos around these services.

@@thomasfransson It is not like your example, but a greater change. Look at the FAQ "How long is the license valid?"
I understand, sorry that they've made changes. But these things will happen. Terms of use can change xyz amount of times/year on a platform.
If your not happy with your subscription, I would suggest you contact Artlist and ask for a refund

Hi! What is your opinion on sound effects, which platform is better? I need background sounds of nature, different cities, office etc.
Epidemicsound takes the cake when it comes to sound effects. Artlist has definitely expanded their library but not quite caught up yet in terms of options.

This was mostly shot with the Canon 200D/SL2 and the Pentax 50mm f1.7
A bit tricky to film yourself with a manual lens. But the footage is usually worth the trouble ;)

Thank you I just started learning cap cut. When I understand it I want to do a freelance job but only for shorts on Instagram, TikTok and UA-cam so for me is important that I can use music even if I cancel the subscription because I don't want my clients to have any problems.
As long as you have an active subscription when the material is posted/published you're good to go. And if the client wants new content or modify existing content, that should be you who benefit from that ;)
These days, musicians often move the rights to their material around quite a bit. It could be to a competing music service, a record label or maybe even a show that wants the exclusive rights to a specific song. With the amount of content being produced today and the number of different subscription services, it's becoming more important to have a great music service ;)
@@thomasfransson I am that guy who thinks more about client than my self. If i manage to do freelancing its not that i dream big money, like my goal is max 500-800€/$ monthly. But most important are happy clients and that they are happy.
Happy clients is always best. I'm just saying that if the client wants a specific song or whatever for a video, they're the ones that should pay for it, not you. At least not in the long run.
If you get a commercial subscription at artlist for example and use their music for your client work - You will charge the client a portion of your yearly subscription cost. You can do this as a separate entry or bake it in with the rest of the cost. In the beginning it might be an investment on your end in order to offer your clients great music and make your life easier. But in the long run, this is a cost that should fall on your clients instead of you paying for their music ;)
If you bake in the cost for your subscription service and keep that subscription going, it also keeps your clients from getting copyright strikes if they decide to re-post old content you've made a year later. Maybe its a early event or the join a new platform.
It's important that the rights to that music remains at the same place and in your control. Otherwise you as a producer can offer to change the music for a fee if possible or see if you can clear a new license if the rights to that song now belongs to another company, person or subscription service.
Hope that makes sense, it's a long way of saying that you can't get a one month subscription and download 10 years worth of music, then cancel your subscription and use it for commercial purposes ;)

It's hard to figure these things out in the beginning and you will learn as you go.
But unless it's a passion project where you're willing to spend your own time and money. Then you should bake those costs in or add them as separate entries. Whether it’s music, keeping backups on physical drives or paying for cloud storage where your clients can acess the edited videos once they're done...
Those costs should be placed on the clients.
Just like if you run a restaurant, in every plate there some money that goes to wages, rent, bills, repairs and backup if the dishwasher breaks ;)

No, as long as you have an active subscription when the video is published. That video will be safe from all copyright claims and things of that nature. Including monetization via youtube.
