Looking Back George Reinholt & Jacqueline Courtney (Steve & Alice) really put Another World on The Map after Four Years of Struggling In The Ratings. Even When Mike Bauer from Guiding Light came on he couldn't bring up the ratings. I told UK Soap Fans about his Downfall and they were stunned. Sadly enough in the UK a similar thing happened. Leslie Grantham who played Dirty Den Watts on EastEnders left, came back and the writers didn't knwo what to do with him. He became Homeless and eventually died. I also told them about what they did to Michael Zaslow (Ex Roger Thorpe) Guiding Light and they were also appalled. Now more then ever US Fans are watching UK Soaps and they love them.

My mother watched Another World in those days, it had a sister soap called SOMERSET. Jacqueline Courtney was an original cast member when AW began in 1964

Another World holds the record for creating Two Spinoffs. One was Somerset that Ted Danson got his start on as well as The Doctors as well as Texas.

@@michaelrandall4862 Yes, you are thinking of A World Apart that Rosetta Lenoir did before she played The Grandmother on Family Matters, Clifton Davis who would later write Never Can Say Goodbye for the Jackson Five that was later covered by Gloria Gaynor and Jimi Sommerville who was in Two UK Groups The Bronski Beat and The Communards. Robert Gentry was on the Show as well as Susan Sullivan who were both on Another World. In The UK there's a Soap Opera called Doctors which is popular.

Shocking at such a young age! Jacquie Courtney was a legend in daytime and will be missed.

Didn't Steve and Alice later play Pat and Tony on OLTL? I know she was Pat Kendall.

You know what's so funny, Robin and Victoria were able to joke with each other silently about The Steve & Alice Love Triangle. Oh here's another fun fact. Both Billy Dee Willams and James Earl Jones each played Dr. Jim Frazier on Guiding Light in the 1960's, and in the 1970's they played Members of a Negro Baseball League along with Richard Pryor called "The Bingo Long Travelling All Stars And Motorcycle Kings".

When I first saw this special back in 1994, I was SO glad to see so many AW and AW-related actors and clips on the show. AW was so unappreciated over the years--it deserved (and deserves) so much more than it got, especially from the network and the academy at the Daytime Emmys.

I told UK Soap Fans about how sometimes an Actor/Actress originates a Role, but another person makes the role their own. They were blown away by SORAS, and were surprised that Julianne Moore was on As The World Turns before becoming the "Current" Mistress of Masterpiece Theater.

They had great chemistry. And when you threw in Robin Strasser with them, unbeatable. Who will ever forget Alice's engagement party scene when Rachel told Alice, Steve was her unborn' baby's father and not Russ. A classic.

@FORMATERMAN How sad for you and your sis.... Hard to believe she's gone, harder to believe this '50 Years of Soaps' appearance was Jacqueline's last on TV. Cheers, Ms. Courtney!! You are still loved and missed.....

@Bootlegteen47 I remember a scene where Rachel (Robin Strasser) telling Ada that Russ hit her, and then Rachel saying he spanked her, but wasn't it in fun-? Rachel was building her reasons for eventually leaving him and wanted Ada to believe he wasn't the good Dr everyone thought - But he was!
She was pregnant with Steve Frames baby (jamie) and spiiled the beans when she was soooo jealous of Alice, that at her engagement party to Steve, she told her she was carrying his baby. Classic Scene

I am shocked and deeply saddened by Jacquie's death. Jacquie was -- and always will be -- my favorite soap actress of all time!
For those of us that actually remember her work, this loss is HUGE! This is a woman who acted with her eyes... every emotion and nuance was superbly conveyed in her expressive, hyaline glances and gazes. Her voice was rich, her laugh infectious, her mere presence mesmerizing. I will miss her terribly.
Thank you for your many years of entertainment, Ms. Jacquie!

I'm so saddened at the death of Jacqueline Courtney (Alice Mathews Frame). I got hooked on "AW" in high school, and stayed with it through college. This was the Cadillac of soaps!

Yes, that's right but unfortunately they didn't click with the audience and George Reinholt got fired and really fell on hard Times. Also montorvan, History was made because how many times do you see two actors who played the same part at different times be in the same room.

    • @laminage
      @laminage 5 років тому +1

@@Lori2279 Oh yes. I told UK Soap Fans about what happened to George Reinholt, and Michael Zaslow (Ex-Roger Thorpe) on Guiding Light. Also, I told them about how they had 13 Jamies on Another World, 13 Tom Hughes on As The World Turns and they laughed. In the UK "Kids" actually Grow up, and although they do Different Head Syndrome they don't recast as much. I told them about SORAS and they also found it funny. They don't recast as much on UK Soaps but they are just as Vocal if they don't like The Recast. On Eastenders there was an Actress named Daniella Westbrook who played Sam Mitchell #1 on Eastenders and when her Replacement Kim Medcalfe came in it wasn't the same.
