They do have some pretty small and light tents nowadays, even considering getting another one for deserts......except I sleep so much better in a hammock. Good to have options.
It's not for everyone, but I believe so many people dismiss it for the wrong reasons. But then again, MOST campers use campgrounds with well-groomed, flat, graded & dry, tent-ready spots for the novice. This information is for people that are tired of the pain, discomfort and struggles of tent-camping. Most do not even know they are in pain until they give up camping completely?
Hammock tents is something my oldest son introduced to me, but there's so many choices available. I was looking into a double layer Dutchware Chameleon and the Warbonnet Blackbird XLC, but till it's all said and done it would cost me around $500.00 Are there any quality budget hammock tents available for those on a budget that you would feel confident in recommending?
@@MotoGiant Appreciate it. I’ve been tent camping for a number of years, but at my last trip I tried hammock at the advice of my son, and I sleep much better in a hammock.
@@tibormoldovan162 well I have a hammock playlist, and there is lots of good information in there and also check out my Haven video. That's the one you're going to see me in most of the time in the next few months as I ride my motorcycle across America
I pack a very compact ground tent and a Hammock. I use the Hammock quite often but depending on the terrain and location I can't get two points. There have been many circumstances in the SouthWest USA (Cali, Nevada, NM, Arizona) where I have no place to string up a hammock.
More bonus reasons . Not in direct ground contact. I`ve slept above foot deep snow in comfort . Less chance of a snake wanting to snuggle up with you. Australian snakes will do that sometimes.
I just ran across your channel, so these comments will be kinda sorta late. Tell the viewers what the equipment is you're using. Make a list in the description maybe. I watched the couple you did down by the river and kept waiting for you to name the Grilliput. Never did. What if someone saw it and wanted to get one? Tell 'em what hammock, what fly, etc. You've tried them out, share your gained knowledge. Teach 'em. For example, I use a Hennessy Expedition, sometimes with the Hennessy tarp (in the hot weather), the rest of the time with my War Bonnet Super Fly (camo). Or I use my ENO hammock if there's no bugs. The Super Fly will double as a ground tent (as you showed). I carry a camo sil-nylon fly to cover the bike. Pretty small rolled up. (I keep looking for a camo bike cover, mine's just black. By the way, the bike cover (waterproof) will work under your sleep in pad as a ground cloth or reflective side up, under you in the hammock. I use a down under quilt, works better for me than a sleeping bag. Dig A Dakota hole for low visibility cooking over a fire. Carry a Pocket Rocket stove or a twig stove for those times a fire won't work. I carry a Big knife (Ontario Knife Company 8684 SP10 Spec Plus Marine Raider) and a Wyoming Knife Saw for manufacturing firewood. Keep it up, the content is great!!!
in canada all campgrounds just clear cut the sites and plop a picnic table and fire pit in there and call it good. only place i can hammock camp is in the back country
I tried a hennesy hammock for moto and really wanted to like it but.. never again,.No enclosed place for my gear, or to get changed in and I couldn't sleep well. I'm a side sleeper and even though it was an A sym, I couldn't get comfy and it was very chilly under my body.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the option to use your bike as an actor point. so technically you only need one tree !! (or rock, light post, cactus etc)
My underquilt from Simply Light Designs has kept me warm in 5 degree weather and weighs less than a pound. The quilt is custom made to my specific lay. My hammock is also from SLD.
Bonus #3: A hammock and tarp weigh way less and are much more compact than a tent. Perfect for moto-camping.

Which hammock is that? (Meaning the brand or type?) I like that string on top you use for extra leverage.
that is my black bird from warbonnet. I've had it for over a decade and it's never let me down

There are deserts in every state west of The Rockies, I will carry both my next trip out west too.
I've hung my hammock between two boulders before.

Trees are Lacking in Outback Aus. I'm thinking of making a Pole off the rear of my Gold wing then I need just one tree. mm ... I think I can do this.
My last videos illustrates another alternative to trees!
Another reason, back doctors perscribe hammocks for back pain because they don't have pressure points like a mattress.

I certainly did mention that, about 13 years ago....the failure was spectacular!
I wanna go Moto camping so bad
What is holding you back?
have you looked at Tensa4 Hammock stand? Take a look
seen it, but I have trees
What about cold weather? I like my bag for warmth.

Warbonnet Blackbird XL - for the last decade!
Tents are hotter than Satan's armpit
