This worked! :-) Got Linux Mint on my old Macbook now! :-) Thank you for the clear guidance about the partitions. That was very helpful. Now next thing I will try is to dual boot fedora on my actual Macbook (2019). There is a github project which already includes all the drivers for the T2 chip. You do great videos, thanks again!

Please see if you're using 22.04 and make sure PulseAudio is working correctly, if it is not, fix it for 22.04: sudo apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio&& sudo apt-get install pulseaudio && If you using 22.10 make sure that any package is not broken and pipewire is installed because in 22.10 it is using pipewire audio service instead of using pulseaudio service. Thank You for giving advice for using auto-cpufreq also.

Being a nerd can be lonely, even if you know many other nerds. There are nerds of myriad types and their interests may not overlap. So I came here to share with no one, anyone how fascinated I was to clone my dual boot windows and Linux to an external drive and then boot both of them on my 2009 mac that has Monterey installed thanks to. Some very clever unpaid programmers. If you do this, two tips. Learn how to reinstall Grub in a way that Mac recognizes and back it up in case it gets messed up. Also, never let Windows start a repair. It will certainly wipe out Grub and might even mess up your partition table. Sorry for the typos. My phone won't let me edit. It keps jumping around.

Models with Apple's NVMe controller (MacBookPro13,1, MacBookPro13,2, MacBookPro14,1 and MacBookPro14,2) require disabling the d3cold PCIe power state for the NVMe controller to successfully wake up again: echo 0 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000\:01\:00.0/d3cold_allowed. This command must be executed from root, and ideally on startup, since the file is rewritten to '1' on startup. Even then resume is incredible slow and takes up to a minute, probably due to additional bugs.
For the 15" models with additional AMD GPU resume only works when using the internal Intel GPU.

Hello everyone, this link below worked for me to properly setup the linux/ubuntu hard drive not showing up when restarting (on boot up) on my mac. In other words my problem was that my mac would only reboot into mac Os but there was never an option to select the ubuntu boot drive.
    ua-cam.com/video/ZhxBJ3yh2OY/v-deo.htmlsi=SdAYnndYpsQlVX7d
I followed the steps until min 4:43 and voila, upon reboot I finally had both Mac Os boot drive and my linux/ubuntu boot drive! Now, I truly had a dual boot setup.

Does not work for Macbook Air Retina 2020 Intel
Because of the T2 chip, no linux kernel I tried supports it, latest I tried is Ubuntu 24 LTS. There's a slim chance something like Debian Unstable build (aka beta) might work. Or so I heard on a reddit thread when trying to get any drivers at all to work.
Thanks for the video though :D

    - Do you know how to change which OS is primarily booted into?

Is it possible to encryp the partion used for ubuntu at the installation? So instead of choosing ext 4 I would choose physicsl volume for encryption. Do you think it might work or do I habe to add some other things as well?

Do encrypt any linux partitions especially on Mac hardware.. I cannot say exact reasons. Just don't. BUt... You can use chmod or chown to lock the home folder after installation.

    • @kskroyaltech
      @kskroyaltech  7 місяців тому

If your Mac does have a T2 chip, you will need to take an additional step before installing Ubuntu. Specifically, you will need to disable a feature that prevents the Ubuntu installer from booting from external media.
To enable external booting on a Mac with T2 Chip, first, restart your Mac and hold the Command + R keys to boot into recovery mode. From the menu bar, choose Utilities, then Startup Security Utility. In the Startup Utility, select the option to allow booting from external media to successfully install Ubuntu on your Mac.

Maybe get 23.04 it's WAY simpler and I'll tell you the steps for 23.04
So once you get to where you want to install it, click sda 3 and click minus
Then click on 'free space' and click the plus
Leave all settings as they are
At the bottom click the dropdown and click /
Click the 'free space' drive and click next
For 23.04 that should solve your problem
