I drink Wild Turkey 101. To me the only thing better is Wild Turkey Rare Breed 116 proof.
I love Turkey 101, never had the makers 101, but i love their Maker's 46.
I'd say skip to the Cask Strength Maker's if you want to try something else from them.
I use to grab Buffalo for my daily sipper but W/T 101 is my go to now. What is crazy is i find better then bottles that is double the price such as Henry Mckenna

Ok...after further review in taking a dive into Makers 101, this stuff is super sweet viscous. You're totally right! The proofs are similar, but if you're a rye lover, you might gravitate towards the WT 101, but if you're a Wheater like me, and like the sweeter profile without the rye spice you might prefer the Makers 101. 🥃
Maker's Mark definitely has it's place when I want something "softer". I use that term loosely because it's still whiskey. But sometimes you just don't want that bite that high rye offers. Have you tried the Cask Strength?

The mm101 is nearly twice the price of wt101. I like the makers mark 46 as it is about £35 and I love the spice from the staves.
2 yrs later and MM101 still on shelves. I bought two thinking it would disappear, so far its still available. I prefer MM101. Well done video.

Bruh, I agree! WT101 is a solid pour that punches above its price. WT101 and 4R single barrel are my favorites.

Nice video. I love wt101. I've only had makers 46 and regular. Unlike most people I liked regular makers better than the 46. But I love the Turkey. One of my favorites
My go to is WT 101, and my special occasion is rare breed.
I do have makers mark, angels envy, Buffalo trace, Evan Williams single barrel, knob creek, and Elijah Craig as well… I start people on makers or Buffalo, but yea, I prefer the boldness of the WT ones.
These are two bangers!!!! I enjoy makers, never had this one.
I've not yet stepped into the Makers world, but it's hard to beat WT 101 as a daily sipper within the same price point. However, I've been drawn to Early Times BIB. It has awesome debt of flavor for a sub $25 bourbon at 1 full liter. That's a lot of good sipping per volume! 🥃
I ALWAYS factor price point into my experience with whiskey. Probably one of the reasons I keep coming back to WT products.
Just recently purchased Maker's 101. I looked forward to my own 101 matchup. Good video brother, oh MMCS is top notch!
Give it a shot! I'll probably put them up against each other again in private. And then WT against the Jim Beam Single Barrel which is quickly becoming one of my favorite budget whiskies.
Wild Turkey 101 is a staple that I will always be replaced when the bottle is gone even if I dont drink it as much because I can get Fighting Cock 103 proof cheaper and it's really good! I am a Makers Mark fan of the cask strength as well as the 46,hell I even like the regular MM, but I bought a bottle of the 101 a few days ago and its incredible, I went back the next day and bought another bottle, just a heads up that Makers mark 101 is now being sold with the traditional paper label not the etched bottle and (at least the ones I have) comes with a cork not a screw top! I actually took a half bottle of the 46 and topped it off with the 101 basically giving me a bottle of 46 @ 97.5 proof. great review and 🥃Cheers!

Both of these are on radar for my next bottle purchases. I love Wild Turkey and Russell’s bourbons(just out of 101 currently)

I've been searching for the wood finishing series MM, but can't find them around here.
WT 101 hands down especially for the price. Both are good and I do enjoy a wheated bourbon.

I have both and enjoy them!! You’re completely right about the WT101....what a solid product that’s 6-8 years old and I can get it where I live for about $28-$29. The Makers too is a hitter for me, such a smooth sipper, i had some right after a scotch last night and the taste by comparison, was soft and sweet. I’ve heard the barrel proof is great too. The barrel proof is not that much off in ABV, but the profile is so more robust. That just tells you how much ABV can affect taste in some cases.

In a blind fold taste test, WT wins time and time again. Love the 101 rye as well. I do like the normal MM.
Such a good head to head. We love Wild Turkey 101 here but will pick up a bottle of MM101 and have them face off in our blind pool. Curious if Turkey will come out on top for as much as we like it.
As for the apples and oranges stuff, it’s gotta be Biggie.
I know who my money is on... In the blind the boldness of the WT will shine through. And you know what else? It's definitely Biggie; no question.

Nice enjoyable video. I don't care much for the standard MM anymore. I like the MM Cask strength. But, they recently, increased the price from $40 to $45. For $45, I may as well spend $3 more and get the Rare Breed. Not sure how much the MM 101 is around me. But, for the price, the ole standby is WT 101. Can't be beat for the price.
Before i even watch i liked its a good comparison both are solid, affordable whiskeys. Before watching im going with the makers mark
Great review. I love Makers, and Wild Turkey equally but for different reasons. Makers after swirling and sitting open for a while just smoothes out and enhances its vanilla and sweetness even more. Wild Turkey gives it to you right up front and gets your attention quickly. You know what you're talking about.
Tonight, I had WT101 with a Gurka 15 year. Great combo. I picked up the 101 st .y local Ralph's (Kroger) for $18!
I have not had the MM101, but i got the same ethanol taste in a MM Cask Strength. My favor MM was a Store Pick cask strength or barrel proof. It was fantastic as t $69.
Not sure of another 101, but i wonder how an Old Granddad or Early Times Bonded compares.
That makers 101 might be my favorite pour of the year.

WT 101 is my favorite, price isn't the issue. they could sell 101 for 50$ a bottle and I would still buy it.

It's just hard to beat WT101 for taste and value. I can honestly say that a week doesn't go by without me sipping on some 101. It's the definition of a daily sipper. Nice video and keep up the good work.

I like the bang, the bite and price of the WT. The rest of what's out their is usually smoother not necessarily better. One exception would be Stagg Jr which is on another level, beyond compare!

Nice detailed review. We are new to whisk[e]y tasting. Don't understand the WT 101 hype, however as we continue our journey our nose and pallet have been developing and picking out those scents and flavors. Will definitely give both of these a try in the future .

Great comparison - thanks! I ran out of WT too long ago and picked one up at Trader Jose's for $18.99 last night - may get another one to keep it in stock this time. Can't beat the quality for that price. Not tried the MM101 yet, but at double the price not sure I will. Have a 46 and that is just fine.
$19 bucks for WT is a great deal. Not really missing to much with the MM. Check out my video on Balcones Bourbon. This is also wheated but without the finish that MM leaves in your mouth.

Great comparison. I ironically just made a Makers 101 Old Fashioned as I tuned in to your video and loved your comparison. I too fear this bourbon leaving the shelves one day, so I have a second bottle tucked away. WT 101 is and always will be my daily sipper but as you say, the Makers wheated and WT 101 are very different. I've been hearing a lot about another competitively priced bourbon that is giving WT101 a run for it's money! Wheel Horse 101, from Owensboro Distilling Company. I have not had the opportunity to find it in my area but am very interested. Have you heard of it or sampled it before? That would be a great next 101 shootout! Cheers!
I've never heard of Wheel Horse, but guess what? Now the hunt begins! Man, and an Old Fashioned... That is my cocktail of choice. Anyone that knows me can order that cocktail without me even being at the table.

Nicely done, and agreed on the conclusion. Every time I go back to Mark, in any old form, I end up completely cold on it, whereas Turkey quietly carries on being one of the best values in Kentucky. But what you need to get your hands on, sir, is some of that there Russell's Reserve Single Barrel.

In what world is Wild Turkey a high rye bourbon? At 75-13-12 it seems like a pretty standard bourbon mash bill. It's the exact same mix as many Jim Beam bourbons including Bookers and Knob Creek. Would you consider these high rye bourbons as well? I think 10-13% rye is pretty standard. When I think high rye, I tend to think Bulleit or Basil Hayden at 28 and 27% respectively, or Four Roses at 20-35% rye.

For the money and availability, there just isn't anything that touches Wild Turkey 101. It punches well above it's weight.
Haven't had MM 101 yet because it's $15 more than the WT 101. I would think Maker's would want to compete with WT near the same price.

Never seen the 101 Makers Mark Burbon but will have to try and find it so I can give it a lick or two. Prefer 100 proof bourbons for several reasons. I like the flavor, aroma and the general taste on my tongue. There used to be numerous ones that I have found over the past years that I liked and some from the States and even some from other parts of the world. Not all measured up and some were pure trash. One I found "Old Methuselah" origin unknown was about as bad as you could get and would make you want to quit completely. That being said I have found some that while expensive were worth the price and you wouild only biuy one in a while for a special ocassion.

Great video. I have both and I like both but in my area I just picked up a 1.75 of WT for less than a 750 bottle of Makers. WT 101is my daily sipper. I have lots of more expensive bourbon but as far as value goes you just can’t beat WT 101.
I keep putting other bourbons up against it, and time after time they either fail or rank right next to it.
Makers 101 is a noteworthy bourbon IMO better than the Wild Turkey 101. I liked Biggie better too..

I enjoy wild turkey rye 101 over the wild turkey 101. I enjoy Makers101 over both the regular makers and cask strength versions and I like 1792 full proof and small batch over the BIB version.

Just don't get wild turkey rare breed....or it becomes hard to go back to the 101!! Lol. Rare breed is what I would want to drink EVERYTIME if I could afford it! Even at any price range, tare breed is the best juice I have tried!!

I am afraid that every video singing the praise of the 101 Turkey, puts us that much closer to losing it's price, quality, and/or availability. Enjoy it while it lasts. Excellent broadcast.
the problem with makers is that they don't age there product long enough, its just too strong of an alcohol smell and taste, i get none of that in wild turkey 101 at all, its a superior product.
Wild Turkey gets a bad rep because its cheap in price. Young people drink it to get drunk because of that. Only met one person that realizes the quality of WT, and guess what? He distilled and brewed his own liquor and beer
Wild Turkey 101 is always a great dram, definitely not been a fan of any Makers Mark, 101 included...just something about Makers that gives me some of that wood funk on the nose and palate.
Maker's seems to be one of those divisive whiskies. People either swear by or hate it.
